Lee Jun Ki Posts Picture Updates on his Military Service

JUN KI! My Jun Ki tweeted and updated his cyworld yesterday. *cue Koala almost fainting from happiness* It’s insane how long it feels like he’s been gone, and yet he has over a year left in MS yet to go. Sobs, an entire legion of Jun Ki-fans the world over (I don’t have to tell you how many tickers I’ve seen counting down his release date) has to make do when he occasionally pops up to show us his smiling face and how adorably okay he’s faring serving his country. If there is any top star I want Jang Geun Seok’s career to emulate – it is Lee Jun Ki, acting-singing double threat.

Jun Ki updated his cyworld with pictures of him and Kim Jae Won, who was just discharged over the weekend after completing his MS (hhhmm, that’s one Kim Won down, wonder when Kim Rae Won is out?).

Accompanying the pictures was a note congratulating Kim Jae Won on faithfully serving his country, and a fond farewell, saying that he would miss his Captain Kim, who always had a word of encouragement and a warm smile for his dongsaeng Jun Ki. Can Jun Ki get any sweeter? I don’t think so.

Jun Ki also updated with new pictures showing him in dress uniform – and I always laugh because with his crew cut he looks all of twelve years old. Jun Ki is someone who’s ridiculously beautiful features never made me a fan, but it was always his acting intensity and commitment that made his performances memorable, even when it was in a drama that was a piece from crap from beginning to end, like Iljimae. Thankfully, I can and still rewatch Time Between Dog And Wolf, oh, only like once a month. It’s like getting my chocolate fix – I gots to get my Jun Ki fix.

    • What’s even cuter is his dress robes are a little too big on him, so he looks like a kid playing dress up with his older brother’s army uniform. SO. DAMN. CUTE!!!

I miss him so much….. *goes to stare at Jun Ki pics and drools*

  1. MY JUN KIIII! XD Oh my… still have to wait for quite a while before he’s free again. ^^

Thanks Koala for posting this. I haven’t heard anything about him lately that’s why I miss him super much! ^^

  2. WOW!
He really looks young with that haircut.
Please MS release our pretty boy here!
I want more of his awesomeness!
    MOAR! MOAR! ^^

    BTW
    I love Yoon Eun Hye’s banner!.. ♥

  3. He looks like he lost weight? or may be its the hair cut that makes it seem like he did lol

He is SO CUTE!!!!! the dress uniform pic.. for a sec he looked like Joong gi.. but his smile!!! I rewatched My Girl a few days ago. Is the other drama you mentioned good?

    • He’s definitely lost a whole ton of weight since he did Hero, in which he was a bit heavy for him. So happies that his face is back to being fabulous to photograph, full of sharp lines and angles.

Love Time Between Dog and Wolf. My first encounter with Lee Junki and he was faboo in it. My fave role for him.

  4. I actually enjoyed Time Between Dog and Wolf…I thought I would watch it just to support Oppa Jun Ki but I ended up watching the whole episodes without complaint. He’s such a cutie…I just hope when he’s done with his military obligations that they would give him a better kdrama roles that would really make him shine. Miss my Oppa!

  5. Dear Koala,

You are my expert for anything Kdrama, could you kindly advise:

    1) At what age do the guys have to do NS?
    2) Under what circumstances (school etc) can it be delayed and what is the latest age they can enlist?
    3) How long do they serve?
    4) Can’t they take any leave of absence to film and so some short work (drama, movie, fan meet, cf, concerts etc)?
    5) Do they do the regular army stuff or due to their innate talents, actors serving NS could perform, compere and do other related work in the military?
    6) Do the actors completely go off screen and we don’t hear/see a single thing about them until NS is completed?

I am worried what will happen when our JGS have to enlist for NS, Hotokajo???!!!!

    • 1) At what age do the guys have to do NS? – anytime before 29, I believe
      2) Under what circumstances (school etc) can it be delayed and what is the latest age they can enlist? – there are various reasons for delaying service (there is a handbook on the requirements), and 29 appears to be the latest one has to serve.
      3) How long do they serve? – 2 years, or more like 22 months, with 2 months of training.
      4) Can’t they take any leave of absence to film and so some short work (drama, movie, fan meet, cf, concerts etc)? – nope.
      5) Do they do the regular army stuff or due to their innate talents, actors serving NS could perform, compere and do other related work in the military? – most actors and idols opt for the entertainment division, which involves entertaining the troops and public engagements for the military. A few guys enlist in the actor army. For example, it’s highly publicized that Hyun Bin is applying for the marines (which is HARDCORE O_O), Jo Hyun Jae served in the army, etc.

      6) Do the actors completely go off screen and we don’t hear/see a single thing about them until NS is completed? – pretty much. But their management companies can update their cyworld, twitter, and other venues for releasing information about then to their fans.

  6. Thanks Koala, you’re a god send! Our JGS still has another good 5 years before the max 29. Whew (wiping off sweat), that’s a relief! But knowing our Geun Suk, he’s not the kind that would stretch it to the last minute. I think he will do his duty when he feels it’s time, unless circumstances really prevents him from doing so.

Like Jun Ki too, love actors that are very INTENSE and he is certainly one of them.

  7. I have not watched Iljimae and not sure if I ever will (not too keen on sageuk) but have watched him in TBD&W and was awed. He can do comedy, drama and action all in one drama… very versatile. His Hero drama was also good. I am looking forward to his return.

  8. Loved Lee Jun Ki in “Time Between Dog & Wolf”.
Ohhh….if anyone is interested…..Kim Rae Won should be out (Military Service) August 2011, which is only seven months away….yipppeeeee! I love his dramas and movies, except maybe the last one, “Insadong Scandal”, not one of my favourites…..also love his dramas especially: “What Planet are you from” and “Grand chef”. He has a wonderful voice, I could listen to him sing or just talk ALL day!
    Have a good one 🙂
