GTV Confirms Extravagant Challange Cast and Filming Commences End of March

GTV announced yesterday that shooting will commence on March 31, 2011 for Extravagant Challange, its long-delayed drama adaptation of the manga Skip Beat. The two male leads Choi Si Won and Lee Dong Hae of the K-pop group Super Junior will be arriving in Taiwan next week, and is expected to live there for four months during the shooting for the drama.

Lead actress Ivy Chen has told the media all month that she is ready for this meaty role and doesn’t think the language barrier will be a problem with her two co-stars. GTV also announced that the second female lead will be Bianca Bai. And with that, EC is officially a go!

Ivy has had her long hair since she debuted, and I don’t see her cutting her hair for the role Kyoko. Even with long hair, Ivy is like a tiny cute pit bull, which is exactly the personality of post-Sho-dumping Kyoko. Bianca is a surprise choice Kanae (aka Moko), who I always felt that Tiffany Hsu would be the perfect person to play Kyoko’s frenemy/rival. Regardless of all the question marks surrounding this drama, for some reason I am totally excited and can’t wait to see if GTV pulls off a game-changer in casting two big K-idols in a Taiwan drama.

  1. Finally, I still remembered the press conference 2 years ago in Japan, what a big change from Jerry to Siwon (I wish Siwon will be Ren but his performance from Oh My lady is more toward Sho’s character..hmmm I don’t know). I think Ivy is a perfect match (at least better than Ariel) but not sure about Bianca? To me, Cheryl Yang or Sonia Sui would be better choice as Moko. Anyway, I am very excited (I am a big fan of Skip Beat Manga and Anime) and can’t wait to see the drama version.

    • Cheryl and Sonia could both do Moko in their sleep, especially Cheryl, but both are bigger stars than Ivy and couldn’t be a second lead at this point. But theoretically, I agree. 🙂

I also think Siwon is a better fit for Sho and Donghae for Ren.

I still think the Jerry-Ariel-Joe casting would have been unbelievable if they pulled it off two years ago. Sigh.

  2. Don’t know the storyline (which is fine cuz then it’ll be a surprise). I really like Siwon. Ivy I don’t know. I don’t really like Bianca even though she’s quite beautiful yet is way better than Tiffany, pretty but looks weird & don’t like watching her dramas. The concept of frenemy has always bothered me cuz in real life, if a friend belittles me, envy what i have or betrays me even once, she’s gone from my sight. I have no tolerance for disloyalty. And I trust no female under 65 with my man. I’m defensive I guess.

  3. Please, not Bianca … I don’t have anything against her per se, but her acting is so perpetually stiff and wooden. I think she tries, but God is it so painful watching her on screen. I really cannot picture her as the fierce Kanae; all she’s got going for her right now is that she’s tall, skinny, and pretty. Shaking my head at the casting … Then again, my enthusiasm for this adaptation of Skip Beat had already waned considerably after both Jerry and Ariel dropped out. At the very least, I hope they don’t screw up the male lead casting by casting Donghae as Ren, as Siwon is by far the more experienced and better actor.

  4. I know Siwon can act a little if he sets his mind to it. I need to check out Dong Hae’s performance in It’s Okay, Daddy’s Girl, which I’d like to watch for Moon Chae-won (hello girl crush!), but gah, I didn’t hear good reviews about it.

I have no interest in this drama…hmm.

  5. I’m a bit disappointed when I heard Jerry is not in it anymore. I think he would be perfect as Ren. Ren is supposed to be older than Kyoko and Sho; while the three main leads look like they all could be high school classmates. Probably there would be some change in the plot?

  6. Oh No. oh No. Oh No….my ex hubby Si Won will be kissing someone? Oh no… Hmm, You know, I really need to see if I can like Bianca Bai. All the roles I’ve seen her in, which is only just two, I really didnt like her. Not in ISWAK and not in Fated to love you.

  7. i am definitely excited for this. hopefully their voices aren’t dubbed or anything (hopefully not). I can’t wait! (:

  8. FINALLY! SKIP BEAT IS GOING ON A LIVE ACTION! AND ANOTHER GOOD THING IS THAT, THE TWO LEAD ROLES (SHO AND REN) ARE GIVEN TO SUPER JUNIOR MEMBER CHOI SIWON AND MY ONE AND ONLY LEE DONGHAE!!! I LOVE IT… I WISH REN WILL BE PLAYED BY LEE DONGHAE.. ^^

PLZ LIKE EXTRAVAGANT CHALLENGE SKIP BEAT LIVE ACTION ON FACEBOOK… THANK YOU! ^^
