Written Preview for Episode 5 of Drunken to Love You

If you watch Drunken to Love You carefully, you’ll notice that Jie Xiu and Xiao Ru are not the stereotypical bickering opposites attract type of couple. They don’t always argue, and when they butt heads, it’s not because of selfishness, it’s because they are looking out for the other person. Jie Xiu pushes Xiao Ru to get over Yi Xian, Xiao Ru pushes Jie Xiu to take a step back from his bad temper so he can move three steps forward in his career. If these two are not meant to last a lifetime, I’d be hard pressed to find a more sane, down-to-earth, and realistic drama coupling.

Written preview for episode 5 of DTLY:

With the help of his thoughtful wife Xiao Ru, Jie Xiu successfully completes the model home! Having gone through a difficult experience together, their feelings for each other have unwittingly started to build a foundation. Xiao Ru’s refusal to abandon him or the project forces Jie Xiu to reassess his feelings for Avril. Does he want a beautiful but distant star, or a flickering light to be his warm partner?

Perceptive Avril has already realized Jie Xiu’s emotional shift, and the two of them have a big fight because of it. Just when the three of them (Jie Xiu, Avril, Xiao Ru) fall into a messy and complicated love triangle, a mysterious man enters the game. It appears he is interested in Avril, so what shockwaves will he bring to the existing love triangle?

Xiao Ru has fallen for Peggy’s sob story, deciding to let Yi Xian completely go. But even as resilient of a wild boar as she is, it’s still gutwrenching for her to exorcise all the years of love she has for Yi Xian from her heart. Watching Xiao Ru in such pain, Jie Xiu proposes a “Lend You My Happiness” touching declaration.

The Chinese proverb goes like this “If you borrow and you pay it back, it’ll be easy to borrow again.” But when one is faced with a happiness that doesn’t come easy, everyone has the potential to refuse to pay back the debt…..

My Thoughts:

What did I say? I knew Peggy was a calculating uber-bitch/demon woman. No way she would give up on Yi Xian that easily. But you know what? I don’t care, because the more Xiao Ru hurts for Yi Xian now, the faster she gets rid of his memories, with the added bonus that it hurts Jie Xiu to see her so sad and he’ll work twice as hard to make her happy. See, I’m so easy to please.

  1. Thank you so much OCKOALA. I love reading your recaps. Your writing is methodical, yet whimisical, sarcastic yet funny, but most of all sheer brilliance. Thank you so much for all of your hard work. You’ve made my love of Kdrama and Tdrama that much more memorable and exciting.

    • Superlike & totally agree with what you have said… Ockoala, you rock! Can’t thank you enough for bringing us these recaps and translations 🙂

    • Thank you, Ami and Jyotika. ^__^ I really appreciate your, er, appreciation of me. Heh. I think DTLY makes us all giddy with happiness, no?

      • Absolutely… I can’t watch it yet coz work etc is keeping me completely occupied right now. So instead, i come to the koalas playground to get rid of some stress 😛

  2. Knew Peggy was a little bitch. Like come on she worked that hard to get knocked up by Yi Xian &steal him away from Xiao Ru she’s not about to give up that quick because Yi Xian told her again (I’m assuming her told her countless times that he loves Xiao Ru so that was not the first time she heard it) that he didn’t want to be with her that she’s gonna go &give up already. Please that heffer planned it all. Shame on her.
I hope the baby isn’t really Yi Xian, comes out that it’s someone else..so i can laugh at her.

    • Oh god, marmar, you made me spit out my drink. And I thought I was heaping insults left and right on Peggy. Calling her a heifer (spelled with an “i” for your reference to use again in the future) was brilliant, and ironic, since she’s really a skinny cow. And wishing the baby isn’t Yi Xian’s is awesome…..if there really IS a baby. Which I don’t fully buy as a fact. See, because she is such a horrible human being, I lose even the basic ability to believe a single word she says. I personally hope she gets affilicted with a flesh-eating bacteria and all her skin rots off. Just sayin’.

      • Oh my what what descriptions of Peggy. do wonder if she is really pregnant? I dont care i want my couple to fall in love and be happy. April /Aevil can go with the star for all I care.

      • Heifer? I love it! But I would venture that for animal references, bitch actually works better; a rabid bitch clawing and ripping at Yi Xian’s ankles and happiness, ripping to shreds his respectability. And like you, I’ve always been thinking that there is more to the story. Baby, no baby; setup, no setup. There’s something more to the story most definitely. And I think that has always been the niggling feeling within Xiao Ru. Not just that she loves/d Yi Xian and wanted to marry him but that her love has insight that there is something extremely deceptive about the entire situation.

But ultimately, I thank you koala, for pointing out that the truth has little bearing on the future of our main couple or even his (past)relationship with Xiao Ru because it was his decision to heap more pain on her regardless of what the “whole story” entails. He could’ve come clean, told his side, explained… shoot said “I’m sorry” genuinely or at least had a real conversation with her out of respect for Xiao Ru and their time together, but instead, jotted a few words on a napkin, humiliated her publicly(more than once), revealed his ho was preggers (unapologetically) and even worse allowed said “ho,” to spit unwarranted insults to further disrespect her. He may have chosen to be selfish and self-deprecating out of some misguided idea of love and honor but regardless of how or when the truth comes out, he hurt her intentionally. Therefore, she should never return to him, no matter what is later revealed. Forgiveness is great(and necessary) but purposeful amnesia is idiocy.

  3. Thank Koala! The firsts thing I do after work is go straight to your blog! I love it! And I’m and addict to DTLY!

  4. Jie jie … where can I watch this online with subs? And don’t say Vikkii cos that site is not working for me.

    • Viki not working for you? Mei mei, Dramacrazy has DTLY with Eng Subs, but I think they ripped off Viki subbers. I don’t know which subbing group is releasing soft-subs.

      • Oh look … it’s like it heard you and Viki is now working for me. Will check it out. Thanks!

      • Saw ep 5. Will wait for your recap but am more interested in the preview for ep 6! 😀

  5. Very entertaining, brilliant written preview, koala, as always. Always looking forward for it every week. Yep, Peggy is a calculating bitch, liar, uses emotional coercion to get what she wants. I detest her. Hoping for JX and XR find happiness with each other. DTLY fighting!!!

  6. Peggy is the type of character that also annoys me to no end. Okoala – you got me hooked from that post that you way back that talked about upcoming TW dramas and then I went to sanlih to investigate. I’m even reading TW blogs following this one – which I normally never have time or am too lazy for and I too didn’t like FTLY like the rest of the tw viewing audience. Thank you for getting me hooked!

Anyhow, back to Peggy… I definitely suspected that she wasn’t preggo and that she was using it to hook him. However, the truth is that Yi Xian made his bed so that’s just too bad for him, unless she somehow drugged him or something but I don’t really care how it happened. Although, eventually, our OTP is going to separate so I am curious which one separates first – I was thinking it would be Jie Xiu that ends up hurting XR.

Avril – I didn’t really hate her at all, I think she has all the stresses of being someone famous. I can’t quite tell if she really loves Jie Xiu but she did make her own choices about this whole situation.

More scenes btw XR & JX — I can do without Peggy. 🙂

    • I find Avril self-absorbed. She’s not full on selfish or in any way evil (thus far), but her one cardinal sin is asking Jie Xiu to marry another woman for her career sake. For that sin (it’s not a sin because it’s wrong, esp. since Jie Xiu agreed, it’s a sin in the romantic terminology because Avril is using Jie Xiu’s love for her for personal gain), she’s got to suffer the consequences, which is that Jie Xiu grows to love Xiao Ru. Avril also made her bed, and pretty soon she’s going to lie in it as well, and I don’t feel sorry for her.

  7. I am seriously regretting watching this…..because it is currently airing and I want to marathon it!!!! Seriously! The wait between episodes is nearly unbearable! ::stomps my little feet:: and thanks the koala for her update that keeps me from going into total withdrawal.

    • I refuse to apologize for introducing you (okay, dragging you) into the awesome that was SH, and then stringing you along into DTLY. 😀

  8. oh… aren’t they in a public place (Jie Xiu and Avril) in the photo above? Aren’t they are afraid that they are going to get caught by the paparazzi? 🙂 can’t wait for episode 5!!

  9. Peggy is such a manipulative bitch~ But the ploy she used was so convoluted & how much does she know about Xiao Ru to use that move? What if Xiao Ru hadn’t decided to be the better person and give up Yi Xian? Not too interested in their side story anw… Jie Xiu & Xiao Ru are the future :DD

  10. I think this DTLY is going to surpass its prequel,FTLY in ratings.Havent seen a drama this good since Autumn Concerto. The chemistry btw Rainie n Joseph is red-hot sizzling!!Absolutely adore Rainie n her new hairdo! And Joseph grows on u….o what r we gonna do till the next epi.The wait is unbearable.Ho many epis altogether,by the way?Thank heavens for Koala’s playground!

  11. its because of ur preview tht i survive 😀 Thanks a lot !! I bet ur jst dying 2 rte a preview a preview for ep 6 as much as we r dying 2 read it 😛
