Just a reminder that a new TW-drama is premiering this Sunday, the friends-turned-lovers In Time With You with Ariel Lin, Bolin Chen, Sunny Chan, and a slew of recognizable Taiwanese actors. At the helm is Director Winnie, making this his third collaboration with Ariel. FTV released a twenty-minute preview that is pretty detailed, and really connects with me purely on the directorial touches and Ariel’s amazing acting.
She looks better than ever before, and her acting continues to mature and deepen in nuance and delivery. Perhaps it’s because she was a language major in college (Korean), but she has the best line delivery and enunciation of pretty much all the TW-actresses currently acting. It’s a shame she was dubbed in LoCH2008 along with the entire cast, because I would have loved hearing her actually say Huang Rong’s witty and charming dialogue. I can’t wait to watch the first episode!
So the baby teen wolf and large freaky man wolf thingie Ariel chases, and later chases her, in the department store is her dream manifestation of time. Once so innocent, and something we chase because we can’t wait to grow older. But then it becomes something scary and big to us and in turn chases us. Time waits for no one.
What I like about this drama as shown through the trailers is how there is such a lyrical elegance to it. It doesn’t look bright and cartoony, but rather feels adult and complicated. I don’t think this drama will be a ratings hit, but hope it’ll be appreciated in Taiwan for it’s attempt at dealing with realistic and convoluted themes of friendship mixed with love.
