C-movie Secret Garden Releases Stills and Teasers Ahead of Christmas Premiere

Not only did the C-movie version of Secret Garden the famous K-drama actually film this year, it’s going to be released in three weeks on December 28th. Either mark your calendars because you want to watch it, or if you’re an SG aficionado then this might be your version of D-day. The thing appeared to have filmed in less than two months so I can’t even vouch for any cinematic quality, aside from the dubious casting of Wallace Chung as Kim Joo Won, Tan Wei Wei as Gil Ra Im, and former H.O.T. member Kangta as Oska. I’m actually impressed the drama managed to land Kangta, since him being a mega Hallyu idol star in the late 90s (as recently revisited with such warm nostalgia in the K-drama Answer Me 1997) makes him rather perfect to play aging star Oska. I was really underwhelmed when I saw Tan Wei Wei at the press conference to commence filming but seeing her in the stills and the trailers, she’s actually not bad. She has a decent screen presence and that hardness I associate with the character. She also appears to have great chemistry with Wallace, who has the toughest shoes to fill since everyone associates Hyun Bin with that character. With that said, this is a movie version with less than two hours of running time so I’m sure the entire cast can put their own spin on things. I actually think the drama looks kooky enough to be entertaining like a Bizarro universe version of the drama. Check out the latest stills and trailers below.

  1. I watched those appetizers and felt… Nothing. I guess I went through the 5 stages of grief. I know the funny scenes of SG by heart and here is the proof than the cast was responsible for a good part of the hilarity. The girl is maybe what I “like” the most in the movie: The 2 guys are far, very far from the hotness displayed by HB and YSH.

  2. OMG, I LOVE THIS OSKA!
There sure is a lot of pretty up there on the screen.
But it seems like with only 2 hours, you would *blink* and it would be ovah.

  3. I LOVE Secret Garden (the drama), so it is going to more than difficult to get use to seeing a different casts especially for Joo-Won and Ga-Lim characters…Don’t get me wrong, I like Wallace but just not enough to look past that.
However, I will still give this a try, Kangta seem to be the right choice as Oska imo!

  4. This is kinda off topic kinda on.

My daughter’s school is performing the musical version of the book Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. But when she went to YouTube for videos of other productions, or streaming video sites for the movie, the korean drama kept popping up first.

    • Jomo, it doesn’t surprise me. It was a phenomenon (both in SK AND abroad) and 2 years later people keep posting on the forums or doing fan MV’s. The release of Hyun Bin from the army just revived the mania.
PS: I keep spotting references to that show or inside jokes almost every week in my currently airing dramas. I wonder if it’s writing laziness or a way to speak to our collective memory?

  5. dunnoo…somehow not feeling it. Mayb coz SG was too awesome coz of d actors (not the stupid story :P)…wrong drama to remake imo.
Tan Wei Wei’s hair looks weird…too short!!

  6. Oh dear, * peering through my fingers * at the scenes I recall.
    Pass.
And now need to scrub my memories of those photos. Shudder.

  7. I do think it’s funny. I’m sure it will be different in movie. Too bad I thought they are going to do a movie version in korea ,well it’s China who did it.

  8. Kangta…do you not age man? I rewatched some old HOT performances after EXO Warrior’s Descendant…you LOOK the same. You are drinking trainee blood and tears at SM aren’t you? I like his version of Oska.
