The army taketh, the army giveth back. Hopefully hotter and more mature, of course. I’m already reserving my tears for when Yoo Seung Ho enlists early this year, but I take solace in knowing a bunch of actors in Taiwan and Korea are coming back soon so I can fill the void happily. Military service in Taiwan has gone from two years to one year and done so Ethan Ruan is coming out in January 2013 after serving desk duty in Taipei, though I doubt we’ll be getting any army abs. He’s actually been in the news a lot this month since his period movie The Guillotines with Huang Xiaoming just got released for the holiday season. I haven’t seen it yet but reviews have been mixed, though the funniest quip came from a reviewer who called it “the wuxia version of Monga“. Ethan obviously missed all the promotions though he did make some video appearances. He filmed the movie right before he enlisted and its such a boon that its coming up right before he’s released, almost like whetting fan appetite for him. Up next for Ethan is in a cameo appearance in the currently filming TW-period movie The Hidden Heroine with Shu Qi. I think its a safe bet we won’t be seeing Ethan back in TW-dramas much, if at all, now that his film career has taken off. Recently Ethan and his girlfriend Tiffany Hsu have been asked about their marriage plans since Ethan was seen wearing a ring on his ring finger. Ethan said it was his couple’s ring with Tiffany and he definitely wants to settle down since he’s 30 year old. The earliest will be the following year, to which Tiffany confirmed that sounds about right since both their careers are red hot right now.
Despite Ethan’s issues with fidelity, these two have definitely weathered a lot of ups and downs in their five-year and strong relationship, which includes Ethan’s hilarious failed attempt to put a ring on Tiffany before he enlisted. They are now living together and are still seriously committed. Tiffany revealed that she sees Ethan every weekend since he’s serving in Taipei and has the weekends off. Conversely she’s the busier one right now as she is the lead in the currently airing Friday drama Love Me or Leave Me with Chris Wang. The story of Ethan and Tiffany is very well known since they are one of the most public and famous couples in TW-entertainment. Ethan has shared the story of how he saw Tiffany on TV first and thought she was the prettiest thing he had ever laid eyes on. Then he met her at a photo shoot when he went to visit some model friends of his. But when he approached her, she iced him thinking he was a total douchebag who picked up pretty girls left and right. He had to work hard before winning her heart and to this day he isn’t shy about revealing how he’s the forward one in the relationship. Tiffany’s middle name is Ann and that is actually what all her friends call her, and Ethan says she is so pretty that everyone assumes a lot about her but in truth she’s a very introspective and thoughtful girl that he continues to learn new things about her. Hope these two make it around the final lap and walk down the aisle because hot dang it their babies would be sooooo gorgeous! Ethan posted the following picture on his weibo awhile ago of him video chatting with his two girls. So cute!
