Video Preview for Episode 1 of The Best Lee Soon Shin

We’re one week out from the premiere of The Best Lee Soon Shin and I’m getting more and more excited. I always want to like at least one weekend family drama a year because its makes a nice contrast to the sleeker fare of the primetime shows. It’s predecessor My Daughter Seo Young has done such phenomenal ratings and TBLSS will have to suck on an epic scale to not win at least half the number of viewers of MDSY. Starring Jo Jung Seok, IU, Yoo In Na, Go Joo Won, Son Tae Young, Jung Woo, and Lee Ji Hoon, this drama centers on the mother-daughter relationship of the Lee family after the death of the dad. Youngest sister Lee Soon Shin played by IU sets off for Seoul to become an actress and take care of her family, along the way meeting a mentor in Lee Mi Sook as well as a daddy long legs in Jo Jung Seok. The two leads have a significant age difference that both have addressed in interviews. IU says she was the envy of her all female friends and family when they learned she was acting opposite Jo Jung Seok. She finds him very playful and easy to work with, when they talk their age difference just melts away. Jo Jung Seok sheepishly admitted that he’s been accused by his family and friends of being a thief (robbing the cradle with IU) and that his phone is almost broken by the non-stop calls from people wanting to hear all about working with her. Neither knows how their onscreen relationship will develop but the producers have said it will be a very enchanting drama love story. Count me in! When I watched the preview for episode 1, I was also really interested in the relationship between second sister Yoo In Na and Go Joo Won, as well as eldest sister Son Tae Young and Jung Woo. I’m hoping this drama stays as lighthearted as the teasers indicate and avoid the narrative death trap that is weekend family makjang.

  1. Looking forward to this.. Weekends are when my mom and I watch dramas together. We both have disliked my daughter, seo young, myself more than her. I find the female lead such a cold fish for so many episodes and maybe because I have not watched every episode, I have not been able to understand her, nor feel empathy for her. It’s improving finally but will be glad when this one comes on. I really enjoy Jo Jung suek and lee mi sook onscreen

  2. I don’t really feel the age difference at all because Jo Jung Seok still looks as youthful as ever. HEH maybe it’s my bias speaking but omg he’s the main reason why I’m so looking forward to this. MDSY didn’t live up to my expectations despite it’s stellar ratings. I just don’t dig makjang tropes, bleh. Hopefully this drama will be awesome. PLEASE BE AWESOME DRAMA,YOU’VE JO JUNG SEOK WITH YOU FOR PETE’S SAKE.
    Ah,loving the cast! :3

    • I read all the translated News and most of them wrote Star not singer or actress and JJS is director of entertainment company who works for Lee Mi Sook who is the CEO.

  3. I put the airing day in my calendar alreday a months ago :–)
I normally don’t watch weekend drama’s, they have too many episodes, but Jo Jung Seok… who wouldn’t go for it??? :–)
    But please, no makjang, please!

  4. just a question if ockoala or someone can clarify is there any rival drama from sbs or mbc competing with The Best Lee Soon Shin and had My Daughter Seo Young had competitiors….if not …if there is no competition isn’t easy to for the drama to hit “DAEBAK” and also it’s a weekend drama….so isn’t this drama The Best Lee Soon Shin with no competitor dramas gaurantee it will be a sucesss…plz if someone could throw more light on it……it’s confusing…….anyways looking forward to the drama

  5. I usually steer clear of weekend dramas due to -shudder- the makjang twists, but I can’t fight my JJS love. I’ll stick with it and pray it doesn’t go craze-balls on us.

  6. OMO OMO OMO! Can’t wait for this drama! “My Daugther Seo Young” was not my cup of tea and I don’t feel like watching anymore Makjang dramas. This one looks real cute and I can’t wait for it to start. What got me interested is of course Jo Jung Seok! =P

  7. My first instinct is to avoid weekend family dramas like the plague, but this cast is so full of win I’m willing to give it a chance depending on your reviews :D. I don’t care about age difference as long as they’re both legal, the story makes sense and the chemistry works. God, I shipped Kim Min Jong and Yoon Ji Yin so hard in A Gentleman’s Dignity – and we’re talking about a 19 years gap, lol!

  8. I love how she turns around and GLARES at Lee Soon Shin’s statue….If my parents names me Ulysses S. Grant. I’d be pissed too, lol…the cutest part of this teaser was the bit with Yoo In Na and Go Joo Won…not that JJS isn’t adorable but I can’t possibly watch an entire family drama just for him, so this is a good sign for me…now please just make him sing, dramagods!….aside from that I’m liking the overall tone of the show though it does look like a typical rags to riches kdrama about heroes/heroines trying to fulfill their dreams etc…as long they stay away from any makjang/brith secrets/parental angst that this genre is known for, I’ll watch.
