Monstar OTP Rewind: Ha Yeon Soo and Yong Jun Hyung Attend Movie Premiere in March

My babies! My Monstar OTP! Is it going to be called Se-Chan or Seol-Yi? Have folks decided which mixed moniker fits our cutie pies the best? Ha Yeon Soo and Yong Jun Hyung literally went from “who are these people?” to “can I package them and take them home?” for me in the span of a week. I adore their characters and performance in the MNet cable drama Monstar, the stupidest title for a drama ever but inside the package is such delicious crack goodness I can’t get enough. Thank god I’m accustomed to the one-episode a week schedule of TW-dramas and J-doramas, otherwise I’ll be tearing my hair out right now on the week-to-week wait for a new Monstar episode to drop every Friday. I can’t say Ha Yeon Soo and Yong Jun Hyung have chemistry to blow me away, which makes sense since they are playing high school students and this drama hews very chaste and adolescent longing. But there have been a few scenes that push the boundaries of their physical space and in those scene the air is literally crackling between them and I’m just thankful this drama doesn’t have an anemic OTP to ruin the romance side of things. I neither like nor dislike second male lead Kang Ha Neul or his character of Jung Sun Woo. His acting is a little stiff for me, Sun Woo a little underwhelming for me in terms of personality and backstory, but he is easy on the eyes and has a great voice. I like how Mnet started to build up the pairing of Ha Yeon Soo and Yong Jun Hyung early on when the two of them attended the G.I. Joe: Retaliation premiere in Seoul back in March. That movie got a huge red carpet premiere in Korea thanks to Lee Byung Hun’s involvement and back then I didn’t know these two so didn’t even register they were there. Going back and finding these pictures is like discovering a Benjamin under the sofa. I love that Ha Yeon Soo looks so different than the standard faces all the young starlets are sporting, and the same goes for Yong Jun Hyung. Now all the drama needs to do is keep up the great narrative and these two will have tons more opportunity to shine.

  1. omggg….the look on junhyung’s face..
totally channeling Seol-chan at the premier.
    it’s screaming, I’M A STAR! haha

  2. yes..ha yeon soo looks so different than the standard faces, cuz she can really act, that’s why her beauty is shinning. i love her
and they looked so good together even before the drama begin^_^

  3. I totally get what you mean by them not having major chemistry but there’s still a really intense vibe between them in scenes where they’re in close physical proximity (like the car scene in Episode 3, UNF).

She’s adorable, one of the best rookies I’ve seen this year and if she has to spend the next 5 years of her career losing out on lead roles to wooden idol-actresses who can’t act deliver a line half as well as she does, I may just cry at the injustice of it.

    • You hit the nail on the head as to why I have been disinterested on the kdrama idol-centered pieces as of late. It may be subconscious on the part of the writers and directors, but I have wondered if the narrative/story is being “dumbed-down” according to the wooden abilities of idol actors.

  4. That blasé look on his face. Priceless. Wonder whether the order was issued for her to hold any of his arm on every potential picture taken. 😀

  5. my favorite B2ST boy Junhyung! Was a little worried about this pic then because of the Jun-Hara breakup (anyways, its too obvious that I follow kpop so much hahaha).

Junhyung is one talented guy. He writes/produces songs for B2ST and other artist plus his acting is ok compared to others. Everytime I see him, all I remember is “he’s a star” hahaha
