Japan Rui Oguri Shun Pairs up with Taiwan Domyouji Jerry Yan for Live-action Lupin III Movie

In a billion million gazillion years I never would have hoped or imagined for this, but this is honest to god happening. Taiwan’s Hana Yori Dango version of Domyouji Tsukasa (called Dao Ming Shi) played by Jerry Yan will be filming a Japanese movie with the Hanazawa Rui of the Japanese version of HanaDan which is of course played by the one and only Oguri Shun. Can we all have a moment here to bask in the cross-over glory of Meteor Garden Domyouji meeting up with HanaDan Rui. These two were my favorites from both cast, other than my personal love for Vic Zhou in his version of Rui (Hua Zhe Lei) but honestly Shun captured the aura better. The only thing better would be if this was for a new movie adaptation of HYD because these two would be ideally the older versions of their respective characters. I was never a fan of Barbie Hsu as Makino Tsukushi (called Shan Cai) and she’s retired from acting these days anyways so stick in Inoue Mao and the imaginary updated HYD would be perfect. Even though this new movie is not HYD, it’s still mighty exciting and tickles the manga fan in me. It’s the live-action adaptation of a famous shonen manga from the 60’s called Lupin III (Lupin the Third). The titular character Arsène Lupin III is the grandson of the fictional thief and himself following in the family trade. He can steal anything and always sends a calling card indicating his impending theft before striking. Shun will be playing the main character of the thief Lupin III while Jerry’s character is a new one to the franchise and is supposedly a rival equally as talented thief and it isn’t clear where his loyalties lie. The film is currently filming in Bangkok and will have other location shoots as well. Currently the main female lead and Lupin’s love interest hasn’t been revealed yet but lots of big name actresses are vying for the role. The movie is slated for a Spring 2014 release.

While Shun and Jerry are reportedly confirmed, the other non-confirmed members of the cast include Arashi‘s Sakurai Sho as Lupin’s right hand man the sharpshooter Jigen Daisuke, while Tsumabuki Satoshi is in talks to be the swordsman Ishikawa Goemon. This is shaping up to be a pretty gorgeous male eye candy cast.

  1. OMG!!! did see this coming but OMG a cross over of my fave Hanayoridango live action stars…? OMG!!! then the’ll get Lee Si young as fujiko?
    hahahaha
    but its jerry yan. yay!
and Shun oguri… double and triple YAY!!!!

  2. I recently watched RMPW and loved Oguri Shun in it….this was my first Jdrama and wow…such an amazing experience….he is soooooo good!!

Which are some other similar rom-com Jdramas that are good??

    • you can try horaru no hikari, my boss my hero, nodame cantabile,Galileo strawberry on the shortcake, zenkai girl …
and if your looking for some amazing jdrama to delve in apart from comedy he best are JIN (1+2) and Hanzwa Naoki

  3. Okay, now that I have recovered from being taken over by my 13-year-old fangirl self and am back to being a grown woman, I can say that I very excited about this pairing and the story sounds fun as well. A sharpshooter for a right-hand man AND a master swordsman in the mix? I’m in!!
Oh yeah; I was already in with the Shun-Yan pairing. Should I start printing Shun-Yan t-shirts now?

    • Yes! Petition for a MEN/GENTLEMEN over flowers! 🙂 hahaha, it’s so like F44 a la A Gentleman’s Dignity, but they’re not that old though…

  4. …that one came entirely out of left field. But wow, never in my wildest dreams would I ever imagine such a crossover! Sounds interesting 🙂 One question, is Jerry Yan going to Japan to further his acting/singing career? Well, hope that a Taiwanese-Japanese pairing would be done better this time, as compared to Tsuki no Koibito….

  5. OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG *flails around*

    I love Lupin.
    I love Jerry Yan.
    I love Shun Oguri.

    I love potential, begrudging bromance.

Because there’s no way they’ll be rivals the whole movie, right? I bet my left kidney there’s a Big Bad that they’d have to team up against later in the story.

  6. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a HUGE fan of Inoue Mao but shouldn’t this be more apropos; Taiwan’s Domyouji Tsukasa, Japan’s Hanazawi Rui, and Korea’s Makino Tsukushi 😛

  7. Excited!! My two faves from the HDY series. Inoue Mao joining would be awesome, but please, Go Hye Sun, stay away from this movie! Hehe.

  8. I have not been this excited for a movie in such a long time! I love both Jerry and Shun, both for their roles is HanaDan, and for other roles they have done as well. The only thing I am skeptical about is Jerry in a Japanese movie. Unless he has Japanese skills I don’t know about, good chances are his voice is going to be dubbed, which I have never liked.

  9. Too much sadness going around in the world, so I keep coming back to this link to see all the flailing and the squeeing and the gasping. . . I think I might you guys as much as I love Shun-Yan. Thanks for putting a smile back on my face. Can you imagine us all on the red carpet for the opening of this movie? How many people would be having their passports looked by Japanese police officers that night? Hmm?

Most importantly, I realized that I forgot to thank Captain Koala for posting this news. (bowing respectfully–before going back to gasping and flailing and squeeling)) Thank you. Thank you so much.

  10. dn’t like jerry yan much but Oguri Shun is one mighty good actor, I miss his dramas, cn’t wait for this movie, thx for the great news

  11. thanks for the news, koala. you put a big smile on my face so early in the morning! to think i had just been googling jerry yan the other day, and now this. you will be keeping us updated on movie happenings, yeah?

  12. I was hyperventilating when I read this , it is not just these two ikemen from Japanese HYD Rui Hanazawa, Shun Oguri, and Taiwanese Meteor Garden Domyouji Tsukasa (Dao Ming Si), Jerry Yan; it also includes Kim Joon, South Korean Akira Mimasaka (Boys over Flowers) as part of the cast… What a very epic casting!! oh my gosh!!! can it be 2014 already?
