Park Shi Hoo Considers and Passes on Golden Cross as a Drama Comeback

In the span of twenty four hours the K-drama news casting cycle stirred up a veritable netizen storm and I’m still wondering what the heck happened. Was this even a serious casting consideration? The upcoming KBS Wed-Thurs drama Golden Cross, which initially was in talks with Kang Ji Hwan but that fell through after he went off to do Big Man on the same network, floated the possibility of being Park Shi Hoo‘s comeback drama. He’s been gone from K-ent for a year now, ever since he was embroiled in allegations of rape last February after a Valentine’s Day outing with a male friend and a young female idol trainee. The scandal was covered in great detail so I won’t rehash it here other than to say that it was resolved with the prosecutor not pressing charges and both sides also dropping a litany of civil lawsuits lobbed at each other. Park Shi Hoo has been in China for the past two months filming the C-movie called Fragrant Scent, and shortly after the news broke that he was considering the script for Golden Cross, his agency released a statement that Park Shi Hoo has declined the Golden Cross leading man role due to scheduling conflicts primarily with movie promotions for that movie. He’s also purportedly busy with CF shoots overseas as well. Consider me wary of the reason given for passing on the role, last year Kim Bum managed to film Goddess of Fire Jeongi but still participated in the huge movie promotional machine for the big budget blockbuster C-movie Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon. K-netizens of course went batshit with howls of outrage that he might be returning to drama land and who knows if that might’ve influenced his decision to pass on this project. Golden Cross is a revenge melodrama where the male lead is a prosecutor seeking revenge for the death of his father and sister. The cast currently has two leading ladies in Lee Shi Young and Han Eun Jung along with Jung Bo Seok playing the antagonist who sets the chain of events in motion that starts the hero on his path for vengeance. Golden Cross will follow Age of Feeling (Inspiring Generation) and looks to premiere April 10th after AoF wraps up its 24-episode run, which gives it some time to keep looking for that elusive leading man.

Park Shi Hoo Considers and Passes on Golden Cross as a Drama Comeback — 46 Comments

  1. I thought it was a float more than anything.

Obviously it is too soon for him to come back according to the reaction.
I wonder if he’ll ever be able to be on ahjumma controlled airwaves.

    • Actually, I think most of PSH’s fans are ahjummas. At 35, he’s a bit too old to appeal to most of the younger set. That being said, I’m an ahjumma and I’m never going to watch him again.

      • Yeah. Mostbhis fans are ahjummas and known to be very obsessed and can be very malicious too. You don’t want to deal with them or having your favorite actors, especially actresses to get entangle with him

      • Hi I’m a fresh 20’s but I’m a fan of PSH we don’t matter you or any haters anyway!!!

    • He say really say: “sorry people hate me too much because of last year’s scandals and some will never believe my innocence”.
Its a good decision its WAY to soon

  2. I honestly thought the whole thing was either a) PSH’s management testing waters to see how the Korean media and audiences will react or b) SBS trying use media play to create hype because going against You’re all surrounded is gonna… suck.

In general, it’s too early and the scandal is too fresh in the minds of people. In Korea where image will make or break a celebrity, I think he needs to lay low for a year or few. This whole thing didn’t do him good because now the audience would feel he’s just looking for a chance to return rather than repent. Which I would imagine is what they expect of him.

    • Like most Koreans, I believe that this guy was trying to taste a water on how people take the news on him making a comeback and obviously, they didn’t take it nicely. And I am thankful that we won’t see him on our screen.

    • My reaction too. I’m a male, but am repulsed by his actions, whether or not they were technically criminal. I am hugely relieved that I can watch a Drama with an actress whose work I really like unburdened by having to put with staring at a douchebag beside her.

    • Same sentiments here. I was still going to try and watch it for her, since I am a fan, but I was really worrying about what working with a guy like him could do to her career.

I am glad she does not have to work with such a person and potentially get any hell by association. And on a more selfish note, I am glad I don’t have to go through a series where the lead irks me. I don’t even want to imagine the romantic scenes.

Uhm Ki Joon seems like an almost sure thing now, so I am looking forward to it. Their chemistry in ‘Killer Toon’ was not much, but the way their interactions were written did not help either. So let’s see how it goes.

  3. Well, too bad my comment couldn’t be accepted Koala, but I’m still getting this error page not found warning everytime I access this website. Will avoid for the time being, since might be a virus, kisses.

  4. Most likely testing waters. I don’t think scheduling conflicts is a bad excuse, in fact what’s worse is if he outright says “No, the response was bad so I’ll back out.” Perhaps no excuse is even better.

Good decision on his part for not doing this drama, the audience is not ready for his comeback yet. Give it another year or two.

  5. Obviously testing to see the reaction. The spin from his agency isn’t even believable.

Though really, how did they think it was a good idea. The plot of the drama for one thing and the fact that hasn’t really even been a year since everything happened. People are going to need a lot of time to forget, if they ever do. There is no way to spin what happened as him being anything but a total scumbag at best or a rapist at worst. So um, good luck with that comeback.

Anyway, I’m glad. I think a netizenbuzz comment said it best with “We don’t have time in our schedules to see you”

  6. See these s koreans oo.they call the nkoreans black and they call themselves white but it a pity most s koreans dont know they have black hearts coz at least the north k know.how can you be rude when the guy appologized or someone stood there to apologizs to you.eeei

    • Yeah sure make a sin, apologize for it, and I’m supposed to give you comfort hug.

Rude? Are you serious? WTF do you call it when he was planning for his comeback? Isn’t that rude to people’s feelings and disrespecting the time people would logically need to forget about it. Oh no wait, he already did make some bussiness over there on the Chinese land. Ah, so he thought people would get over it so quick the same way he did!

And guess what hon, most of the comments on db or netizenbuzz are from non south korean people. So, yeah the whole world have black hearts.

    • Its not judging. Its just a matter if fact. Whether he was innocent or not, he became a media plaything. If he comes back now the media will be back at it. What could be q good revenge drama can be ruined cuz the media will turn everything to behind the drama. Some more stories might come out. True or false won’t matter.

Plus no matter how I look at it, even if he was innocent, he did not act responsibly, specially being famous & all. He knows his ppl & how they think.

  7. guilty or innocent : for me, its a matter of an adult man should act !! geez…he’s 35, mature and old. How come he just bring her home while drunk and act like a hot bloody teenager without futher thinking, and always act that he still in his 20’s…disgust me.

    • Well, of course she knows that there’s a cctv in his condo, so she should act greatly,no common sense at all!!! That’s all plan to make PSH life to be miserable and obviously it is…HIS CAREER, A RESPECT,A FREEDOM all of this stolen from HIM, a simple action, there’s a bad comments from HIM, did you once in your life think about what happened? Me i’m not really a fan of PSH I only watch a Family Honor and search his another drama at 2013 and I can’t find and I ask myself WHY? l’ve search a lot and I’ve found the reason why I patiently read all the article, and all bad and good comments, honestly, why only now I’ve watched his drama I haven’t defend him from those worst comments, I Will trust and love PSH forever…and all the haters well just like 2NE1….I DON’T CARE EEEEEEEER!

    • Well, of course she knows that there’s a cctv in his condo, so she should act greatly,no common sense at all!!! That’s all plan to make PSH life to be miserable and obviously it is…HIS CAREER, A RESPECT,A FREEDOM all of this stolen from HIM,that’s why she take off the charges bec. They know other Korean people if there’s a scandal they believe in it and I believe she’s not only one in this ofcourse there’s a mastermind in all of this and they told her they were going her to be a popular girl if she will do such thing(get the attention of PSH and messed his name)I think he’s not that rich and powerful enough to threaten that girl… did you once in your life think about what happened? Me i’m not really a fan of PSH I only watch a Family Honor and search his another drama at 2013 and I can’t find and I ask myself WHY? l’ve search a lot and I’ve found the reason why I patiently read all the article, and all bad and good comments, honestly, why only now I’ve watched his drama I haven’t defend him from those worst comments, I Will trust and love PSH forever…and all the haters well just like 2NE1….I DON’T CARE EEEEEEEER! To the mastermind in all of this your KARMA will coming soon don’t celebrate too much and to (that) trainee serves you right your not thinking before doing such a messy funny things!!! Rape? W/ my loving Park si hoo? Duuuuuuuuhhhh! Are you serious?

      • Don’t forget too that both PSH and his boyfriend was confessed that Ms.A was vomiting at the elevator…so do you think its part of her acting again ???

A good oppa should let her rest not make love with her !!!

The real jerk…hope not to see him on my screen forever !!!!

  8. Unbelievable…reading most of these Posts I just shake my head…..the saying “people in glass houses….” comes to mind. I am a Park Shi Hoo fan, not fanatic…..I wish him well, and hopefully will see him back on the small screen in the not too distant future 🙂

  9. I can’t believe he’s even getting offers from major networks stations to begin with. Makes me think of Han Ye Seul who has yet to make a comeback since her scandal more than 2 years ago. I hear of her casting news in acting projects but then none actually work out for whatever reasons. The effect of the scandal still?Bad luck? bad management?.. I don’t really know but her comeback is one I welcome. PSH’s not so much.

    • But she acted against the slave driving contracts and filming conditions. Of course the top bosses of the industry don’t like her, since her actions threatened their interests.

Connections and marketability move this business. And it’s mostly run by people who you can be sure have done far worse things than Park Shi Hoo. The hypocrisy of the people who run such industries is better acting than most dramas offer.

I do find it funny how time is supposed to make a difference though. So if 3 years pass, the fact that he did all this will somehow not still apply? I find people’s willingness to let go of anything in time disturbing somehow.

But anyway, I am glad he will not be working in this one. Lee Si Yeong finally has a leading role in something non-comedic and of a popular genre, I’d hate to see that overshadowed by gossip and possibly tainted by bashing.

      • I think you are right. Perhaps it’s not so much (or should I say not solely) public’s reaction in HYS’s case but the people with power behind the scenes. Is it too much to say she’s been blacklisted? Well it’s difficult for her to make a comeback that’s for sure.

  10. It is PSH’s outstanding acting skill & hard working which make him populer in show business. I hope & pray that people will understand that actor like him is also human being who have career that should be separated from personal life while assessing his performance.

Remember that the main reason of actor or actress existence is because of their good acting skill which entertaining us and NOT because of their personal life.

Don’t let personal life (an unprovable scandal) ruin his career & hard work more than 10 years. If that happen, mean people who put harsh comment on media, take part of responsibility of his ruin’s career. The law didn’t punish him but the gossip did.

  11. PSH is an actor and acting is what he’s supposed to be doing. Besides, the whole thing is unclear so we can not put all the blame on him alone.

Please respect him as an actor. As a human being, we should give him a chance to come back, even a murderer (quilty by law) has right to have a chance for better life. I love PSH’s acting skill and hope all korean people have big heart to let him back.

    Sorry for my poor english…GBU…

  12. I love Park Si Hoo and wish him well. I hope he can come back to K-drama soon. He is such a beautiful and talented man, I don’t care what anyone says. Everyone deserves a second chance. I guess people who can’t forgive him are themselves perfect. It must be nice…
