Second Movie Sequel Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno Releases Gripping Official Trailers

One woah momma isn’t enough for the just released official movie trailer for this Summer’s epic two-part sequel to the blockbuster and critically well-reviewed Rurouni Kenshin movie. It was a no-brainer for the studio to green light a sequel almost immediately after the movie opened to stellar reception both domestically in Japan as wells as overseas. What was unexpected was the studio deciding to film two sequels back-to-back so the cast would be reassembled for only one extra long filming schedule. This can’t be done unless there was existing source material to warrant two consecutive sequels, and of course that is the case with Rurouni Kenshin which is a movie based on an award winning shonen manga by Watsuki Nobuhiro. The manga was actually divided neatly into three-arcs already so the movie structure had an easy pre-set format to follow, with the second movie being the Kyoto arc (the movie calling it Kyoto Inferno) and the third being being the Jinchu Arc (the movie calling it Last of the Legend).

The official trailers were released by the studio already equipped with multiple subtitle versions, clearly aware of the overseas appetite for this movie. It looks as good as the first movie looked in its trailers, and this time around Sato Takeru returns as Kenshin with more burnt out fire in him as well as a built up romantic connection with Takei Emi as leading lady Kaoru. The full cast consists of returning Aoi Yuu as the lovely and resilient Takani Megumi and Eguchi Yosuke as Saito Hajime, along with new additions Fujiwara Tatsuya as the villain of Kyoto arc Makoto Shishio, a former assassin like Kenshin with burns over his entire body who is plotting a violent overthrow of the Meiji government for its betrayal of the assassins, Iseya Yusuke as Shinomori Aoshi, and baby-faced Kamiki Ryunosuke will be Seta Soujirou. The second movie drops at the beginning of August with the third movie released a month later in September. Eeeps I’m so excited. Rurouni Kenshin is one of the best shonen mangas I’ve read and seeing it so reverently and expertly brought to live-action life is such a dream come true.

Second Movie Sequel Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno Releases Gripping Official Trailers — 20 Comments

  1. I’m looking forward to this, loved the first movie. My only problem was I’m not feeling Takei Emi as Kaoru, Yu Aoi was fabolous though. I would love to see Tomoe in the films as a flashback but I don’t think that’s the plan.
I should have time to see the first one as I’m still here in Japan in august.

    • Takei Emi…. is very overrated in my opinion but somehow she is one of those “it” actresses at the moment.

Personally have yet to see her in anything where I’m feeling her.

That said, I also think Kamiki is going to outact Takeru Sato in this one.

  2. I.CAN’T. WAIT. I have been following this on twitter even though I do not read Japanese. I retweet each thing so my student (who is studying Japanese) can tell me the updates. The first movie was so good, I bought myself a copy of the dvd for Christmas!

  3. Absolutely loved the first one and can’t wait to see the sequels. Sato Takeru is a fabulous Kenshin. Can’t think of anyone who can pull it off so well.

  4. *hyperventilating* When Rurouni Kenshin movie was had special screening in Event Cinemas in Australia, my friend and I thought that we could just buy the ticket on the day because not a lot of people would go. How WRONG were we! The session was BOOKED OUT! I was devastated and to fill our sorrow my friend and I went out to eat ramyun ahahaha!
Since then I have seen the movies and more than once. It has everything for everyone. Romance, mystery and pure action, add talented and gorgeous actress/actors and an AMAZING cinematography – It’s the package deal.
I cannot wait for the Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno, and if it is having special airing in Events again, I’m not going to make the same mistake and I’m going to get advance bookings!

Also Sato Takeru, FAR OUT THAT GUY JUST LET ME HAVE HIM! And his bff is MIURA HARUMA! He…they…. I JUST CAN’T! I’m in love with those two and their amazing actors!!!!!
