AOA’s Kwon Min Ah Lands Her First Leading Lady Role Opposite Lee Hong Ki in Modern Farmer

Eeeps, I don’t know how I feel about this. On one hand, Lee Hong Ki‘s last leading lady in Bride of the Century was a relative newbie in Yang Jin Sung which worked out wonderfully all around. On the other hand, I found newbie actress Kwon Min Ah pretty awful in her last drama so my first reaction is not optimism lightning will strike twice. Lee Hong Ki’s upcoming SBS weekend drama Modern Farmer has found its modern leading lady in girl group AOA‘s Mina (full name Kwon Min Ah). I figured the leading lady was coming from Hong Ki’s same agency FNC Entertainment and lo and behold AOA is one of the agency’s singing groups and Kwon Min Ah is also individually an actress under the label. Kwon Min Ah is pretty enough and I’ll admit that she caught my eye the first time I saw her earlier this year playing the younger teenage counterpart to Kim Hee Sun‘s character in the KBS long weekend drama Wonderful Days.

She laid on a thick saturi and played a very rich spoiled character who initially came off cute enough, but her acting ended up being bad enough that even having an interesting character to play didn’t help much. I guess the only comparison was the first time I saw a then teenage Jin Se Yeon as the younger version of Han Ji Hye in the sageuk The Duo and thought she was abysmal. But transitioning to playing leading ladies, Jin Se Yeon has improved and also grown on me (in the right roles) so maybe the same will happen here with Kwon Min Ah. I really don’t want to have to drop Modern Farmer because her acting ends up being cringeworthy. With the leads in place, Modern Farmer still has plenty of time to finalize the cast with an airing date in early October after the currently airing long family drama Glorious Day.

Joining Lee Hong Ki as the male leads and members of his rock band in the drama will be Park Min Woo and Lee Shi Un, with Park Min Woo being the rival to Lee Hong Ki for Kwon Min Ah’s affection. Check out a scene cut of Kwon Min Ah in Wonderful Days and decide for yourself if she’s ready to headline a drama with Hong Ki.

  1. you consistenly genuinely love jin se yeon, my oh my your a tough girl, anyway im glad your a fan after all hatred she received from a drama she needs a friend…

    • yes ..I know how much you and your fellow quackers at soompi loathed jin se yeon …. tsk tsk tsk … pity seyeon that people hate her so much because she acts along jong suk. have a good day sleepyhead. i hope that seyeon won’t appear in your nightmare.

  2. I find mina adorable, and her acting in wonderful days was not bad, at least to me.she’s not cringe worthy and I see potential in her
She did couple of minor roles before this like drama special puberty medley and a cameo in that grandpa over flower drama that has heechul in it

  3. Not looking forward to this not because of any of the actors but because it will mean that Glorious Days in over. I do not usually watch weekend , family dramas, but this one is great and not getting the love it deserves. It is exactly what such dramas say they are going to be–warm, funny, family–but which usually turn into birth secret makjang with crazy in-laws. I am crossing my fingers that it does not go down that road.

    • Glorious Days is truly a great family drama so far.I’m hoping it doesn’t go into crazy town later on because it’s the first long drama I’ve watched that has kept a consistent tone since the beginning and I love it.

  4. Totally against it! No acting experience or credibilty. I will drop this if she is the lead. How dare FNC use hongki’s suceess in Bride of the Century to give their AOA idol member Mina a free ride instead of promoting his band FT. Shame on you FNC!

  5. Totally against it! Hongki and Park Minwoo deserve a better leading lady. No acting experience or credibilty. I will drop this if she is the lead. How dare FNC use hongki’s suceess in Bride of the Century to give their AOA idol member Mina a free ride instead of promoting his band FT. Shame on you FNC!

    • When have fnc ever promoted ft island? They always did it themselves, especially Hongki. But ofcourse this is a dilemma for us not watching it because of Mina (and she was not bad at granpas) means not supporting Hongki, who will have a very tiring schedule this fall….
