Soon to be Discharged Yoo Seung Ho Turns 21 Years Old and is Baby Jailbait No More

I’m grateful for little things in life, and one of them is for being able to blog about Yoo Seung Ho during what will be the prime of his career. My baby boy has been in the army for a year and a half now and is actually coming back in early December. The exact date is December 4th and no one can be surprised that I’ve been x-ing off days on my mental calendar until he returns. He’s been an exemplary service member since enlisting at the age where almost all South Korean young men enlist, which is between high school and college age, rising through the ranks and becoming a drill instructor as well as filming promos for the army. While waiting for his return another milestone hit that’s worth writing about – Yoo Seung Ho officially turned 21 years old last weekend on August 17th. Woo hoo! Totally legal now and fangirling him won’t feel slightly off-kilter with the niggling reminder that all that talent is still underage. The Koreans considered him of age already last year since they add an extra year to everyone’s age so this year he turned 22 years old in Korean age. Either way it’s no longer suitable to refer to him as Baby Jailbait.

I’m going to start keeping an extra eye on upcoming K-drama projects in early 2015 and wondering which lucky production will land him as a leading man. I also wouldn’t be surprised if he came back with a movie first since he’s equally at ease where on the big screen or the small. I think he transitioned well into adult characters with his last few pre-enlistment projects, as the romantic leading man kissing lucky Park Eun Bin in Operation Proposal or being a hurt woobie seeking comfort in Yoon Eun Hye‘s arms in Missing You. I know the screenwriter claimed he was supposed to be a calculating psycho but the writing in that drama never convinced me it was organically developed, not to mention he was so smoking hot he was on fire especially with his sizzling chemistry with Yoon Eun Hye. I hope he picks better written characters in the future no matter the project so I can hate him with a passion because he’s so bad at being bad or feel bad all the time wanting to give him unlimited hugs, not feel the latter when I’m told to feel the former.

  1. There is a great need for someone to replace KHJ on the idol front. Lots of money will be spent on Yoo Seung Ho if he is keen. With so many broken hearts, even the fans need to re focus their interest on someone else.

  2. Gosh….I didn’t realize that he was so young! Good that he served his national service and not wait like a lot of his peers out in Kdrama land.

Wishing him all the very best- hopefully we get to watch him in some great drama soon!

  3. Seeing how korean artistes use military service to “cleanse” wrongdoings, I hope he keeps his head screwed tightly on from now on. It pains me to see these talented people let acts of thoughtlessness destroy their future. All the best to him and may he have a long and fruitful career for many years. The sky is the limit at his age! Hwaiting!

  4. Can’t believe he’s coming out soon! I’m usually not into pretty boys but he is effortlessly gorgeous and will probably only get hotter/handsome as he ages and matures. He’s also a great actor, can’t wait to see what he does after he gets out.

  5. hahahaa.. am I weird if I fall for him because of Jade Emperor.. and after that I watch Operation Proposal, Missing You and others….nevermind about good or bad the dramas.. I will just watch it for him.. can’t wait for him on screen again..

and.. does anyone know if Yeon Woojin have been going to the military service ? is he had before he’s debuting as an actor ?

    • He turned 30 this summer (meaning he’s an 84er) and I haven’t heard anything about enlistment so I’m going to assume that he already enlisted (perhaps before his debut).

      • yeah. I’ve been searching bcoz he’s debuting when he’s already 25. So I am assuming like that too. thank u for responding. 🙂

  6. I swear, these enlistments go by so fast. One minute they leave and next thing you know they’re already back. Not that I’m complaining haha waiting for Song Joong-ki

  7. Wow, totally forgot he was in the army. And I knew he was young, but he /just/ turned 21?! Wut. Also, kudos to him for completing the service really early on and not waiting till he’s almost 30. Or using the military to cover up some scandal.

    • what’s wrong with going late?…it don’t matter….it was a good time for him to go – the industry was telling he was too young or too old for a lot of roles – so he went

  8. Great to hear that he will be done soon. I look forward to seeing what his comeback project will be. I wish him continued success.

  9. Woah. That was fast. I thought he still had another year. Glad he is coming back so soon. Can’t wait to see him onscreen. 🙂
