Lee Jong Seok Confirmed for Pinocchio Along with Park Shin Hye, Lee Yoo Bi and Kim Young Kwang

This is probably the least surprising drama casting confirmation in a long time but Lee Jong Seok has finally let the cat out of the bag that he’ll be returning to television this fall in the SBS drama Pinocchio opposite Park Shin Hye. Regardless of whether you personally like either or both Lee Jong Seok or Park Shin Hye, they are undeniably two of the biggest names in the twenty-something K-ent acting pool and their involvement will guarantee this drama gets double or treble the publicity and fan attention then with less popular names attached. Pinocchio comes from the production team of the PD-writer behind the surprise SBS hit I Hear Your Voice, also the drama that vaulted Lee Jong Seok one level up from rising to established acting star.

Joining Lee Jong Seok and Park Shin Hye are the now confirmed second leads Kim Young Kwang and Lee Yoo Bi. I love Lee Yoo Bi ever since she dang near stole Gu Family Book with her acting but I’m part of the majority out there who can’t stand Kim Young Kwang. He’s a busy boy what with acting in the currently airing cable network tvN drama Plus Nine Boys which will end in time for him to dive right into Pinocchio filming. What I don’t like about him is his onscreen aura, this cocksure smirk that carries through whatever character he plays. He’s like a Kim Woo Bin lite but without Woo Bin’s star quality and talent to validate the attitude. Oh well, maybe I’ll change my mind about him in this drama but regardless I’m pleased this cast is finalized and I can start looking forward to it. Pinocchio airs in November on Wed-Thurs following My Lovely Girl.

For Park Shin Hye who got a lot of deserved flack for her last drama Heirs in playing a truly gormless female lead the way Eun Sang was written, she’ll probably feel more optimistic heading into Pinocchio since this screenwriter is known for writing tough and independent female characters with their own narrative trajectories. I really loved Park Shin Hye’s character and performance in Flower Boy Next Door and I want to see something along those lines but outgoing rather than introverted. Lee Yoo Bi is so awesome I hope there is a strong girl friendship element to this drama. Hhhhmmm, this casting means Lee Jong Seok is out for Blood. Hahaha, lemme laugh at my own pun for a second here. I personally think it’s the right choice for him, he’s already played a doctor in Dr. Stranger so time to try out another profession. A plucky reporter sounds like something he can do in his sleep.

Lee Jong Seok Confirmed for Pinocchio Along with Park Shin Hye, Lee Yoo Bi and Kim Young Kwang — 39 Comments

  1. Yeah for LJS. Hopefully, it will be a dream team again with the PD. And i hope this show have a better stylist than DS. The long jacket were not my favorite on LJS.

  2. I agree with ur opinion about his aura. Especially when his personality is on arrogant side. He said that he didn’t like girls with thick legs. Talk about his self perfection!!

  3. Well, I might actually watch this one. It sounds interesting. Both leads are not faves of mine… I have few youngun faves. the story looks like it could be good so I will definitely give it a try.

  4. I’m surprised when u say majority doesn’t like Kim young Kwang. Hv never seen him in anything but thought he must be really popular bcos I see him appearing everywhere nowadays.

  5. I Like the charming Kim Young Kwang, his acting skills has improved in Plus nine Boys..and hope, he can act much better and get first lead in next project

  6. I didn’t know that people don’t like Kim Young-kwang. I respect him as an actor because the role he played in White Christmas made me hate his character so much.

  7. I didn’t know a lot of people dislike Kim Young Kwang. I….really like him though. Hahahahaha. I mean – the roles he played sure have some cockiness in him, but I actually love all the characters he played so far. My favourite character was him in Can We Get Married, and he’s currently sweet in Plus Nine Boys too.

But oh wells, personal preference. I do agree that he does have that arrogant aura.

    • I wanted to strangle his character in Can We Get Married, he was such a prick. But his one-sided crush in Plus Nine Boys is adorable.

      • She is not a bad actress (her crying scenes are great for example), but I find her extremely stiff when she is supposed to be acting like a girl in love. Every time she has a kiss scene she looks like someone is pointing a gun to her head, in other words absolutely miserable.

      • She literally stiffens up when the male leads touch her.

I personally think she generally does a pretty okay job but very technically, if you know what I mean. I rather watch someone with lesser experience and wonkier acting skills but plays her character with more heart. Like Go Ara for example (BTW, not a fan of hers, just an example).

      • LOL, I just love it when delulu stans resort to personal insults. Some people have different opinions, get over it.

    • I agree with you. I was pretty meh about PSH being in this too. Not that I hate her, but her acting hasn’t improved much and her range of characters are not broad enough, so I was kind of tired seeing her.

  8. Lee Yoo Bi is so talented, I hope this drama is good unlike Dr Stranger/Heirs.

I agree with you that Kim Young Kwang can be very unlikable onscreen but he was better in Can We Get Married. Not sure how his pairing with Yubi will be though.

and Park Shin Hye/LJS…….let them please have some chemistry unlike their Heirs/DS otps!

  9. I never watch Lee Yo Bi before but yeah agree with u, I’d like to see them have an element of friendship rather than competition among women

  10. Personaly, I don’t really like Lee Jong Suk… I love School 2013 but more for the other actors. The same for I Can Hear Your Voice, I loved Lee Bo Young. I saw him in The Face Reader, No Breathing and Youth Blood and I have not been convinced by his acting.

    • I agree. Lee Bo Young was the highlight in “I Can Hear Your Voice”. His role in “The Face Reader” was bland and boring. I just couldn’t connect with his character due to his acting. I like him but not as an actor.

  11. said by same person?
Some said she cannot act, some say kissing a dead fish some said she cannot sing and some said she is overrated but all still watching her drama because she always act with their favorite actors ………..
Why the director/script writer still pick her, it must be something that we cannot see or don’t know right?

So let’s see when Nov. Comes

  13. I like both actress but I’m still on the fence with the premise. I’ll be on the lookout nevertheless, especially considering that it’s from the same production behind IHYV. Also, just like the others, I would most definitely prefer having a beta couple instead of some love triangle. And in fact having the two girls be on the same side is refreshing.

  14. What’s really keeping me the team od IHYV, and of course Lee Jong Suk. I really don’t think he and Park Shin Hye look good together. I liked Shin Hye is You’re Beautiful and Heartstrings, but let me down in Heirs. I really hope she does a better job this time.

I’m going to watch it all the way through for Lee Jong Suk. I’m also not comfortable with dropping a series thay I have started.

  15. Ok now i can’t wait for pinnochio. I hope it’ll hit daebak.
Felt bad for lee jong suk and park shin hye, since their latest drama was sucks imo, but now i have faith for pinnochio. ^^

Ps : i also don’t really like kim young kwang lol
