Han Ji Min in Talks for Hyun Bin’s Comeback Drama Hyde, Jekyll, and I

I’ll confess Han Ji Min‘s name was not high on my personal list for Hyun Bin‘s leading lady in the upcoming high profile SBS drama Hyde, Jekyll, and I, but at the end of the day if she’s cast then I’m cool with it. The morning in Korea is starting off with hot headline news on A-list actress Han Ji Min in talks to reunite with Hyun Bin for the upcoming split personality rom-com. I swear that just sounds all sorts of wrong to have split personality anywhere near rom or com but if Noh Hee Kyung can elicit laughter and wring tears out of me in the mental health drama It’s Okay, It’s Love then I supposed K-dramas are starting to pair up disparate elements and potentially making it work.

Han Ji Min and Hyun Bin worked together on his last movie the sageuk thriller The Fatal Encounter (The King’s Wrath), but they played political adversaries rather than romantic interests. He was the King and she was his power hungry scheming step-momma Dowager Queen. I’ve enjoyed certain Han Ji Min dramas in the past such as Resurrection and Rooftop Prince, while others fell flat for me like Capital Scandal, Cain and Abel, and Padam Padam. She does have an enviable laundry list of leading men and if she confirms this drama then her streak will continue because Binnie is as hot as commodity as it gets in the K-acting world.

Despite being okay with it if she confirms, since I don’t hate her and sometimes she can be quite charming, I’m not sure her and Binnie are a particularly great fit as bickering romantic leads. I’m probably in the minority (though the majority among my K-drama friends) in finding the normally chemistry-laden Ha Ji Won mostly not in sync with Binnie in Secret Garden and whatever chemistry they had didn’t work for me.

Han Ji Min is giving me premonitions of Ha Ji Won’s pairing with Binnie and maybe it’s their similar petite and strong-willed personas that lends to the feeling of deja vu. That, and also Binnie playing a man suffering from mental illness which is what his character Kim Joo Won in SG dealt with after a fateful elevator accident. Hopefully the casting will be confirmed soon so I can start tentatively warming myself up to their coupling.

Han Ji Min in Talks for Hyun Bin’s Comeback Drama Hyde, Jekyll, and I — 35 Comments

  1. I like han ji min so I’m ok with this, hopefully they have surprisingly great chemistry (I never thought ha jiwon and hyun bin will have chemistry but they are so so so cute in secret garden that I shipped them for so long )

  2. Well, they certainly look good together. I would still prefer Son Ye Jin or Moon Chae Won, but that’s just personal preference :’).

I didn’t like the Ha Ji Won/Hyun Bin pairing either – I think they did have chemistry, I just hated the way the romance was written in that drama.

  3. I have always liked Han Ji Min since her supporting role in Jewels of the Palace. Love her in Rooftop Prince and Resurrection. Whilst the theme of split personality does not interest me, I will still give this a try if it is Hyun Bin and Ji Min.

  4. Yay! Please let her confirm this role 🙂
I am okay with Son Ye Jin or Han Ji Min taking this role. But I would prefer HJM just because I felt I was robbed of them being a couple in The King’s Wrath, and this more than totally makes up for it.

  5. HJM? I was really expecting SYJ to be courted since she refused Face Reader’s drama adaptation. Maybe she’ll be in KES’s new one then.

I hope Hyun Bin has chemistry with HJM if she’s finalized. It doesn’t have to be the epicness that is HJW-HB or SHK-HB, but I hope its good enough because I somehow just don’t picture them together (?) Its weird.

  6. I really like Han Ji Min!!! I thinks she’s good at rom-coms. And she’s so beautiful, well I think she’s really beautiful. She kinda looks like Rachel McAdams, doesn’t she? And I personally don’t like Moon Chae Won. Good actress, pretty girl, but somehow her enchants doesn’t reach me.
Anyway the project sounds interesting and I desperetaly want Hyun Bin in a rom-com.

  7. Ms. Ockoala i am with you with every words. I don’t feel the chemistry between hyun bin and ha ji won though I don’t hate them nor the drama. I’ve enjoyed it but never tempted to watch it again.

Ha ji min is also not my fav one, though I don’t mind with the pairing. She still needs to work on her acting skills to be more natural then to look overly exaggerated in pouring her emotions (but then is not only her with that problems but still we love korean dramas hahaha).

But I will wait for the recap, it is too early to decide whether the plot, the casts, the writer (s) or the director determine whether this drama is good or not. Hoping for a surprise twist.

  8. YESSS YESSSSS OMG YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
    I’M SO HAPPPY.
Not happy because it’s HAN JI MIN but I’m happy and glad it’s not Son Ye Jin. I dont hate her or anything but I just cant stand her acting. I love Lee Min Ho so much but I can’t continue watching Personal Taste…

One of my favorite actresses is going to be the main girl with my all time favorite actor; Hyun Bin sshi ;))))) <3

P.S I ship Binnie with Ji Won noona even more heheheheheheheheeh~~~~~

  9. I and my friend also like you miss koala, we didnt found sega like what mayor international fans got overwhelmed. 🙁

I only watched HJM in dae jang geum, one movie with Kim Myung Min and RTP, she is quite good but not great yet for me but I do like her performance in RTP.

dont know if I’ll watch this but I hope HB can get success in his comeback on small screen. 🙂

  10. I want choi soo young in everything. So she should be considered. She has great chemistry with her partners and you can tell she can hold her own in a romantic comedy.

  11. Hyun Bin and Ha Ji Won’s chemistry is the best.. even during HJW’s Empress Ki promotion, the reporter mentioned that her pairing with Hyun Bin is the best, In front of Ji Chang Wook and Joo Jin Mo.. lol..

Back on Han Ji Min, I’ll be looking forward if she’s the female lead.. I think romcom and sageuk fits her. But I somehow feels like her role here is going to be similar to her role in Padam, Padam.

I’ll wait until she confirmed for the role.

  12. I am with you Ms Koala, I do not favor HB and HJM pairing. Just dn nod feel the chemistry between them. Her acting does not look natural. I would prefer YEH with HB. She’s a better actress and so gorgeous looking. I love her. No offence meant it is only my preference.

    • I find HJM’s acting very bland…I also would have preferred Yoon Eun Hye….She’s more alive and she’s the queen of comedy.

  13. Actually it’ll be big news if they would reunite Binnie and SHK. They are exes and who knows, they might get back together…always thought they make a good couple.

  14. I watched most of her dramas and think her a great actress. She adds value to any project she is in and I’m happy to see her in any drama.

  15. I feel HB had the best chemistry with the Chinese actress Tang Wei in the movie Late Autumn. It was a beautiful movie filmed in Seattle. I thought they were datiing. So sad she already married. I am a fan of HB not HM. I find HJM’s acting not my taste. Just hope for the best.

I am a fan of HB not HM. I find HJM’s acting not to my taste. I would HB with other actress. Anyway, just hope for the best…..

  17. No problem generally with Han Ji-min, she’s a fairly decent actress.

I did like Hyun Bin with Ha Ji-won, but still prefer his chemistry with Kim Sun-ah. Now that’s a drama pairing I’d love to see again.

  18. Hyun Bin just completed King’s Wrath with Ha ji min. He is acting with her again. Really. just can’t take that. I would prefer Hyun Bin with Shih Min Ah. She is such a good actress and so adorable. I like Sung Yuri too. Her acting has improved so much.

  19. I find Ha ji min’s acting average only. She does not really shine as an actress. I watched Roof Top Prince halfway and never watched it again. I love Hyun Bin so much since World’s With In. I like him to be paired with a better actress like Shih Min Ah or Yoon Eun Hye or Moon Chae Won.

I like him to be paired with a better actress like Shih Min Ah or Yoon Eun Hye or Moon Chae Won. If I watch this drama is because o Hyun Bin.

  21. Haha, I’m in the minority with you on Jiwon-HyunBin pairing. They just didn’t click for me. The only thing I liked about Secret Garden was Hyun Bin’s character. Although, I am pretty ecstatic about Jimin-HyunBin pairing. Hopefully, she accepts it so that I can look forward to seeing what they can bring to the screen.

    • Count me in! To me, Secret Garden is Hyun Bin and Hyun Bin is Secret Garden. His character was more interesting compared to HJW’s … IMO

  22. I think she got the role because of her recent movie Plan Man where she was a crazy rocker lady and the guy was a germ-phobic, obsessive compulsive neat freak. So she has played characters who had to deal with someone with mental illness before. Though I think this drama might be more melodramatic than Plan Man. Hyun-bineeee! I actually like both of them.

  23. Give me five. I ‘ve always love Yoon Eun Hye. She is so adorable. I really wish Hyun Bin would couple with her in a romantic comedy. They look so good together. Both are great actors and with good looks. PLS MAKE THAT HAPPEN…..
