Song Hye Kyo and Chen Qiao En Lead the Sprawling Cast for C-movie The Queens

There’s a new female-centric modern romance C-movie coming out called The Queens that is basically yet another girl power messy love relationships splashy offering. The Queens only came to my attention for the sprawling cast half of whom are actors and actresses I am automatically inclined to check out. Starring Song Hye Kyo (continuing her career foray in Chinese cinema), Joe Cheng, Chen Qiao En, Tony Yang, Vivian Wu, Shawn Dou, Annie Yi, and Qin Hao, the movie comes out November 7th and looks like some sort of makjang Sex and the City, or maybe an older seasoned version of Tiny Times.

It’s the directorial debut from Taiwanese entertainer Annie Yi, a former idol singer turned actress and writer who is now added director to her resume. It’s not that far-fetched considering C-actress Zhao Wei is now directing and even won awards for her directorial debut movie So Young. All the movie stills are glossy and pretty and the trailer is a tour de force of yelling, crying, preening, and making out. It’s fascinating in a train wreck way and makes me wonder why so many big names agreed to star in this hot mess. Who knows, it might actually be good and give everyone more than just eye candy to look at.

  1. Another chinesse movie for hye kyo? looks like she is more focus on the chinesse market after that tax controversy in just one scandal all your hardwork will be overshadow by just a scandal just like jun ji hyun on her cf controversy.

  2. This movie was made before her scandal revealed. Maybe after this, it’s not easy for her to get a new project in Korea, but she will gets more in China, I think.

  3. Song Hye Kyo is well-loved by Chinese citizens and one of the sought-after SK actress..no wonder she’s getting big breaks and acclaimed directors/producers/writers want to work with her. They truly know how to appreciate her talent regardless of her recent scandal, which is the other way around in South Korea..

    • I’m sure that scandal thing will be nothing but a blip in her career pretty soon. That’s just how the public works. All she needs is a hit drama and the public will love her again and all will be forgiven.

Besides, her scandal was nothing compared to some of the other ones this year.

  4. The promotional images/stills look extremely tacky and cheesy so I was surprised by the trailer. It doesn’t look too bad.

Song Hye Kyo almost seems too good for the movie though. Her acting really stands out.

  5. I’d watch this for Chen Qiao En totally. I’ve loved her since SOP Queen (sorry guys, fated to love you was totally not my thing), but sadly usually her shows aren’t really up my alley (like, I loved Swordsman remake and I thought she was awesome and totally stole the limelight as DongFangBuBai, but the show itself, was horrid. Absolutely horrid. All I can say is that through it, I learned that Yang Rong and Chen Xiao are amazing amazing actors)
Anyways, so I’m totally on a Chen Qiao En binge 2014/2015 what with her slew of awesome dramas (and this movie, I guess?) coming out. 😀 Totally loving Cruel Romance right now. Started it about the same time I did Lady & Liar, and I have to say, despite loving the cast for Lady & Liar, I think Cruel Romance is so much better. Sorry, this totally turned into a spew of drivel…kind of.

    • I am a fan of Chen Qiao En too. I’ve watched Cruel Romance because of I loved her and Huang XiaoMing collaborated. Chen Qiao En have appeared in Running Man China (Run, Brother), But i don’t know what episode and where i can see. T_T
