I get super curious whenever a big K-drama starts casting and the interest is exponentially multiplied if one of the leads is cast first and is someone I love. Such is the case with Kill Me Heal Me that is likely going to star Lee Seung Gi. The drama is too close to filming for yet another public meltdown with the leading man, not to mention if Seung Gi quietly turned it down the first time around and it didn’t make the news, that’s all the more confirmation that he’s likely signed on this time for the news to break about him seriously mulling the offer. I think it’s worth a post to consider all the possible leading ladies to romance his 7-personality chaebol heir.
Since the drama is airing on MBC, the two MBC heavyweight leading ladies that immediately pop into mind are Moon Geun Young and Han Hyo Joo. Throw in Ha Ji Won and it’s like Seung Gi can either reunite with two popular costars or potentially star with Nation’s former little sister. If his leading lady is any of these three then I’m doubly in. I’m watching this sucker come hell or high water because Seung Gi is in it, and I’m hesitant to throw too much optimism in since the drama feels too ambitious and not in a doable way. At best it could be like You’re All Surrounded which I managed to stick with until the end, at worst it’ll be another Gu Family Book that I’m forced to drop despite my Seung Gi love.

No to Moon Geun Young. Not that I dislike her but she seems a boring choice to me.

Please do not spread rumors or say things you know nothing about so lightly. Seung Gi was the man both the writer AND the Chinese investors had in mind to lead this drama. The Chinese investors have met with him to discuss (or to persuade him) to star in this drama three times already. Since they are Chinese and they put up a lot of money for this drama, Seung Gi’s popularity in China is a no-brainer.
Furthermore, the whole XMAN-Hainan incident years ago was a total misunderstanding plus an irresponsible false spinning attempt by a media outlet. The culprit in fact apologized publicly already. Just google and read. Seung Gi has never insulted anyone. So please stop spreading the malicious rumors.

I think the top choices are not that realistic since both Moon Geun-young and Han Hyo-joo can carry a show, in that they are arguably bigger names than Lee Seung-gi in television, so it doesn’t make sense for them to take it up when he’s going to be the focal point. I don’t think there is any chance of HJW considering this one.

LSG, on the other hand, has never had a ratings fail in his entire career except for K2H – still in double digits and very much loved internationally. So to claim MGY is a bigger name that LSG in dramas is just… yea. She’d probably love to do this, but boy do I want LSG to get a better female lead!

Correct. Except I never said K2H was his lowest rated, I said it was his ratings fail. Mainly because it wasn’t #1 all the time in its slot. YAAS is rated lower but held #1 from the first till the last. Just like GFB. And considering this year’s ratings, YAAS is up there in terms of successful miniseries.
I’d rather someone younger – resident doc in 1st year and all. HJW would be great but yup, she won’t – rather shouldn’t play second fiddle to anyone. Now she’s an actress who is a ‘bigger name’ than the leading actor unlike others mentioned here.
You need to bear in mind that MGY is a Daesang winner, which means she has the acting chops (well, the correlation is perhaps debatable) and as @mel mentioned, she has a lot of status and that’s what I’m talking about. Perhaps my diction wasn’t the best.
Frankly speaking, if they do want to go for recognition in China it really depends on the type of audience they are appealing to. Korean idols are more well-known in China by youths/teenagers compared to most actors, so Yoona and people like Suzy, Victoria, Krystal will fit that bill. The only thing is that none of them can act. As for the actresses,
1. Park Shin-hye is really extremely well-liked after her stint in Heirs (for reasons I cannot fathom), but of course she doing something else now.
2. Song Ji-hyo is really popular because of Running Man (but man, she still can’t act).
3. Yoon Eun-hye is still really famous after Goong and CP (but she has THAT movie).
4. Jang Nara is filming Mr. Back and there’s no chance she’ll take back-to-back MBC dramas anyway. There’s also the problem of overexposure.
5. Kim Tae-hee is probably available, but the pairing… meh
6. Song Hye-kyo, Jeon Ji-hyun, Han Ga-in… I don’t think are possibilities. They are all noona-looking too.
I think Lee Dahae is possible but… And considering that reunion won’t be “in” anymore next year, I’ll take out SMA, Suzy and Moon Chae-won(plus who’s going to publicise the movie if both of them are shooting dramas?). At this point I think if they really manage to find one who’s pops in China AND can act AND is of the right age (right face age at least) then I’ll take my hat off to them.
HHJ has mentioned MANY times she wants to work with him again and they talk about it often. I could see her, but she’s doing a movie and coming off a scandal so I’m not sure she will. MGY is a top star and great actor, but has had no drama luck recently. It’s pretty laughable to say she’s a bigger TV star than him. She’s just not. She has a lot of status though, I’m not trying to insult her though. She’d actually be good for this role.

Just because someone has acting chops, he/she does not become the bigger name in a certain industry – which is what your initial comment said. In the kdrama industry, Hallyu power and/or ratings talk. Both of which MGY has none of.
I agree with all your other assessments although I doubt they’d try to rope in a Chinese popular actress when they already have LSG to pull in the audience. Kim Tae Hee is recently popular in China thanks to Rain. But yea, pairing = big meh. Jung Eun Ji is a good choice in my opinion: good actress, right age (in terms of looks) and popular in China. Erm, that PSH logic is something you’ve created all by yourself. PSH has never had a ratings hit in Korea other than TPM. In fact, CA was only his second lead role (a flop with MGY), so there’s nothing to compare in terms of ratings. Ugh, seeing this post twice annoyed me enough to shoot a little bit of snark back. I don’t see why you’re attacking MGY to make LSG look better, it’s just petty and unnecessary. Also, judging an actor based on ratings success doesn’t interest me, because it’s just a popularity contest–they’re actors, so judge them on their acting. If you’re really going to force the comparison, imo it’s laughable…so I’m going to be petty for a sec. LSG is cute, extremely likeable, good and improving all the time (and I like him myself!), but MGY would still eat him alive in terms of talent. If she didn’t make him look bad in comparison, he would do very well to have her as his costar (and he managed pretty well with HJW, so I’m sure he could hold his own).

In fact, I haven’t liked any dramas she’s been in since Painter of the Wind. But that’s not her fault–she’s a talented actress who’s found herself entangled in some really shitty projects, and she’s been great even when limited by completely crappy material. It’s hard to vet things properly when you have the live shoot system, something LSG was a victim of with YAS. So I really hope to see her in something worthy of her soon (which is probably not going to be this drama, so why am I bothering…) And haha suit yourself. Some high rated dramas are great, too–you might get lucky, not that you’d care enough to notice, apparently.
You don’t have to like MGY and how you see her that’s your opinion. As for me and some others as well, we think LSG and MGY pairing would be nice. They are both talented 🙂

I also thought the same. Lee SEung Gi isn’t good looking compare to other actors. Korean loves him because he’s talented and has good image (especially in education, the area where most entertainers seem lack). It’s more about inner beauty than appearance.
