China Remakes My Best Friend’s Wedding with Shu Qi, Feng Shao Feng, and Victoria Song

While this isn’t a movie that I think needs a remake, I’ll chalk it up to the nostalgia factor kicking in for making me actually curious about this project. China has confirmed a remake of the 1997 Hollywood movie My Best Friend’s Wedding, which wasn’t anywhere near Julia Robert’s breakout or best work but was still a hit when it was released. The Chinese title is called The Bride is Not Me but the story set up remains the same.

Taiwanese actress Shu Qi will be taking on Julia Robert’s role, with Feng Shao Feng as the best friend/would-be groom stuck in the middle, and Victoria Song (Song Qian) of K-pop group f(x) in the young bride role that Cameron Diaz made work. I didn’t hate the ending of the original movie but part of me wanted the best friends to get together. Filming starts this July for a scheduled for a romantic Christmas holiday 2015 release.

China Remakes My Best Friend’s Wedding with Shu Qi, Feng Shao Feng, and Victoria Song — 14 Comments

  1. I hated the ending. I really wanted the best friends to end up together because we were always given hints that they loved each other. Maybe this remake can change things.

    • There is an Indian remake of the movie and that changed the ending where best friends ended up together! It’s called ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shadi hai’

I hated the ending as well….so I’m hoping this one also will end like the Indian version 🙂

  2. I love all the casts, started liking Feng Shao Feng from Lan Ling Wang and Victoria is so pretty. Since Victoria is gonna be the young bride, i hope the ending stays true to the original one. It depends on the director to decide who’s going to be the main female lead, but I wish Victoria ends up with Feng Shao Feng.

The movie theme is really perfect for christmas release. I have a feeling this one will do well in the box office.

  3. I hope Vic will learn and improve in this project. She will be very busy this year. They already started filming and her injured is not completely recovered yet.

  4. I didn’t love the ending but I felt it was right… I think it was a good lesson not to take people and relationships for granted.

    • I agree, I love bff become lovers but I think this ending feels right. I hope they won’t change it!
The main leads don’t have to always end up together

  5. I, like most of you, hated the ending. It is the one reason that I’ve only ever seen the film once even though I was a big Julia Roberts fan back in the day.

  6. I loved Feng Shao Feng ever since seeing him in the movie “The Golden Era” and I loved Shu Qi since seeing her in “You Are the One.” I love this pairing and will be looking forward to the movie with them; But I did not like the original American movie, so I hope they will make some good changes to it.

  7. What? No Rupert Everett’s role? Why? He was the best…and his singing just unforgettable! The girl doesn’t always end up with the boy, even in rom-coms; especially if the girl has THE perfect gay friend, lol!
