Yamashita Tomohisa and Ishihara Satomi Bring the Pink Cuteness in Teaser for 5-ji Kara 9-ji Made

I mentioned checking out the manga 5-ji Kara 9-ji Made (From Five to Nine) a few months ago during a manga marathon phase (I get that itch at least once a year) and not feeling it after a few chapters. I didn’t hate it but moved on to other more interesting fare, and in the process never even realized the manga was from the same mangaka as Hot Gimmick. DA FUQ. I’m not going to say mangaka Aihara Miki is on my black list but she’s darn near close enough, Hot Gimmick is as polarizing a manga as it gets, and I hate it with the passion of a thousand burning suns.

The misogyny is through the roof not to mention I loathe every single lead in the manga other than fauxcest brother and that character went nowhere. I do remember he wanted to be a monk, so perhaps I ought to have made the connection since the male lead in 5-ji kara 9-ji made is a secular monk who wants to marry the female lead. The only reason I’m checking out the upcoming J-dorama adaptation of 5-ji Kara 9-ji Made is solely for leads Yamashita Tomohisa and Ishihara Satomi, and the hope that Japan continues to deviate greatly in doing manga adaptations. The teaser for the dorama is super pink and pretty darn cute.

  1. I hope it is good i like both of the lead in the romance dramas i have seen them in.

I need a j-drama that is good, cute romance to watch the bad taste that was the horribly cliche Koinaka….

  2. I thought I was the only one with a manga itch, and I’m 21. I don’t think I’ll ever outgrow them. Have you read Last Game too, Koala? I’m loving the male perspective and a female lead that is actually independent.

  3. Yeah, polarizing alright. I didn’t really liked Hot Gimmick back in the day, either. At least not as a romance. Maybe it could work as an study in abusive relationships, but I don’t think that’s the point. It must have been addicting, thought, because I did read all of it, but to this day I remember feeling really annoyed with it, too.

I actually didn’t remember the author either, but the drawings from the manga you posted in the last article seemed familiar somehow and it clued me in. I thought, perhaps, she had changed how she writes stuff, but apparently not.

But yeah, as long as they don’t actually stay faithful to the original, the dorama could be nice. As long as they take away the creepy stuff, the set up does seem nice ground for a rom-com.

  4. I’m always up for a manga adaptation with Ishihara Satomi and YamaPi.

Other than that, I’m curious to which mangas grabbed your attention during you Manga Marathon Phase. I wish I had good recs. It’s been a long time since I read any new manga.

  5. I never read Hot Gimmick but I did read Honey Hunt and man was I annoyed with nearly every single character. I went and read what has been translated of this manga since it mentioned here that it was being made into a drama. After reading the the chapter available all I can say is dear god I do not like the Monk at all. He was so controlling and near obsessive.

  6. I just finished episode 8 of 5-9 here in Japan! Ansd i can say that this is one of the best , the cutest, funniest Jap.drama!
I’m an avid fan of Kdrama and very choosy of Jdrama, this really really catches my heart! Yamapi’s character is very lovable as well as his leading lady!
He’s doing a great job of being a Shinto priest who experienced love at first sight !
The story is fun though sometimes Yamapi’s character is kinda bit “stalker” lol! But cute and really adorable!
    Recommendable Jdrama to watch!
