All eyes will be on upcoming tvN drama Answer Me 1988 as it premieres next week on November 6th. The cable network continues to churn out critical and popular dramas, most recently with Oh My Ghost and Second Time Twenty Years Ago, and AM1988 itself has two big shoes to fill with its predecessors Answer Me 1997 and Answer Me 1994. The production of AM1988 has promised not to make this installment a “who is the husband” quest, and along with male lead Park Bo Gum I would be so into it but for trauma caused from my first taste of leading lady Hyeri in Hyde, Jekyll, Me. If AM1988 does as well in the ratings then tvN will be in great shape heading into the new year. After AM1988 ends in January of 2016, next will be thriller Signal (a drama remake of hit movie Memories of Murder) starring Lee Je Hoon, Kim Hye Soo, and Jo Jin Woong. After that the network has two more big name dramas on the horizon to keep the attention well into 2016.
After Signal will be the drama Memory from the production team of the revenge trilogy that is Resurrection (also known as Revenge or Rebirth), Mawang (The Devil), and most recently Shark. Shark was blah but Resurrection is one of my all time fave K-dramas and Mawang is excellent from beginning to end. After Memory comes the famed screenwriter Noh Hee Kyung penned Dear My Friends with Go Hyun Jung and Shin Sung Woo, with guest appearances by Jo In Sung, Kwang Soo, and Sung Dong Il. Those three dramas will take the tvN Friday-Saturday time slot into the middle of 2016. The network has Bubblegum with Lee Dong Wook and Jung Ryeo Won just started airing on the Mon-Tues slot, and after that will be the highly anticipated by webtoon fans adaptation of Cheese in the Trap with Park Hae Jin and Kim Go Eun. Looking good tvN, looking good.
