TW-superstar Jolin Tsai Slays with Her Performance of “Play” at the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards

sadaa

Every since Jolin Tsai released her beautiful ballad single and MV last December “We’re All Different, But the Same”, I’ve really started to see her in a new light. She’s been around for what feels like forever, and is undisputably Taiwan’s top female solo singer. She’s an idol and I don’t really follow that genre of music so it’s occasionally that I check in with Jolin, such as with her MV with her facetwin Ruby Lin for “We’re All Different, But the Same” that so lovingly supported gay marriage without being preachy.

That’s why it’s epic and I’m so appreciative when I heard that her performance floored the stage at last week’s 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) where she won Asian Music Awards (Chinese language). Jolin performed her recent hit “Play”, which was as perfect a stage performance song as any, and did it live singing and dancing so fiercely I was basically watching while impressed the whole time. Her backup dancers also added to the wow factor, and it was super awesome of her to thank her tour cast and crew for contributing to her winning the award. Awwwww, she slayed MAMA and took home the sweetest boss award prize along with it.

For extra fun, have her entertaining collaboration with J-superstar Amuro Namie “I’m Not Your Girl”:

The MV is gorgeous and hilarious at the same time.

  1. I don’t watch MAMA since I don’t follow Kpop that much but I caught Jolin’s performance cut and she really slays.

    • Yup! She slays. I’m an avid Kpopper. But those K groups performed at MAMA this year mehhhhhhhh and the live performances are huge flops. Either they lip synced or just a bunch clowns jumping around yelling their heck out of lung on stage like a circus.

  2. Honestly, I never thought Jolin the best female mandopop singer vocally. She’s known for her dance and EDM. But man! She slays 2015 MAMA. Compared with those very lame lip-syncing Kpop idols, her real voice sounds so lively, energetic, and her stage stands out. Well, MAMA is known for awards based on fame and popularity, nothing really about true musicianship. But even so, it’s good to see this K music show, dubbed Asian music awards, gradually recognize artists from other Asian countries. Last but not the least point, 2014 MAMA nominations and awards were already very lame. But this years nominations and awards suck even more. It’s obvious MAMA is a huge ass kisser of big names.

  3. Yeah she was awesome and everyone was like, “Who is this” and fans were like, “QUEEN JOLIN TSLAY” LOL….

I enjoyed most of the performances for MAMA…just don’t understand why performances were only an hour and 45 minutes but the shows was like 5 hours long

  4. Wow so fierce! And then her speech was so cute. 🙂

Thanks for posting this, K! I followed MAMA via twitter friends but didn’t see much about non-Korean performers. Glad you showed us this.

  5. She deserved the awards! Now she’s going to be much more famous after this.. Kpop fans are going to flock to support her! 🙂

  6. I love the lyrics in second video… “Mirror Mirror on the wall… Boys are stupid, let them fall”

    Thanks for introducing this singer..

  7. Jolin’s is unique and her performance was amazing not like those lip syncing kpop idols. Its not like they’re horrible or anything but they got the taste of a real live performance. This is real talent and man she slayed it.
