Angelababy and Jing Bo Ran Cast as Leads in C-movie Version of One Smile is Very Alluring

China’s propensity to doubly milk a potential hit continues with news coming out of a recent awards show that a highly anticipated adaption will be going for the usual two-fer treatment. Popular C-novel One Smile is Very Alluring (Wei Wei Yi Xiao Hen Qing Cheng) just wrapped filming on the C-drama adaptation starring Yang Yang and Zheng Shuang, with the drama scheduled for a 2016 release and fans of the story dying to finally see it hit the screen. Now the adaptation has been confirmed to get the big screen treatment along with the small screen version, with the C-movie set to start filming starring Jing Bo Ran and Angelababy, with the former the new It Boy in C-ent thanks to the box office breaking hit Monster Hunt as well as a well-received C-drama turn in Love Through a Millenium, the C-adaptation of Queen In Hyun’s Man, which coincidentally starred him and Zheng Shuang.

C-ent is basically turning into a tiny incestuous pool of actors and actresses that get paired up with each other in various couplings. For those who have read the novel, which of the two sets of leads fits the characters better? Zheng Shuang and Angelababy have very similar visuals, super thin and cutesy, but Yang Yang is cool and aloof while Jing Bo Ran strikes me as slightly goofy and staid. I like all four actors so this is really a question of which medium best fits the storytelling, as well as chemistry between the leads and whatnot. But continue to get used to this doubling down format, the adaptation of Ice Fantasy and Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossoms are also getting dual C-dram and C-movie versions.

Angelababy and Jing Bo Ran Cast as Leads in C-movie Version of One Smile is Very Alluring — 11 Comments

  1. Wei Wei is supposed to be a bombshell beauty nerd, and Xiao Nai a cool, unreachable god. The two girls are definitely not what I was imagining when reading the novel, but maybe they’ll capture who Wei Wei is despite the physical differences. However, I’m not sure what they’ll do about the plot points that are tied to Wei Wei’s, err, physical attributes.

    • I totally agree with you! I actually think Angelababy would fit the character better in the sense that she’s beautiful but naturally “dense” in certain ways, especially in terms of the types of interaction in relationships. Zheng Shuang is less “natural” in that sense…

  2. I agree that Angelababy resembles the character more.

Also, I’m pretty sure that Love through the Millennium was pretty poorly received. I don’t think that there are people who can sit through that acting, and Zheng Shuang’s voice.

Jing Boran has always been more of a movies guy and I think these two actually cooperated in a omnibus movie a couple of years ago. They were quite cute in it too.

  3. I think I prefer Yang Yang as Xiao Nai… As for Wei Wei I’m not so sure… it’d be clearer it there was some stills ><

Anyway I find it just so weird that they keep doing double adaptations like that oO

  4. Liu yifei would have been perfect for Wei Wei. Too bad she’s too busy for this project. Can’t really think of someone who’s perfect for xiao nai. Maybe the second lead of “Our Times”?

  5. I read this news in here few hours ago and go to googling to find more about this novel. I found the english translation and just finishing read all chapters now. I love it. Soo much..

For the adaptations, i love both Xiao Nai’s, don’t know much about the girl from drama adaptation but i love Angelababy… Can’t wait to see the movie and drama adaptation..

  6. I love you so much, boran… Thank god that you finally have new movie… But one problem is… Why the female lead must to be Angela Baby???? But i will watch it for you my baby.. So chiao.. Hope this movie will be very successful like Monster Hunt

  7. I think YangYang suits Xiao Nai more. Like you said, I think he gives off the cool and calm image (he’s also had quite a few roles in the past playing those kinds of characters)

    • Yup! I’ll watch Yang Yang’s version. He pulled off the character in Tornado Girl. I read the original novel and he really breathed the life into that Taekwondo boy.
