Refresh Man with Aaron Yan and Joanne Tseng Release Long Preview and Premieres Sunday

This Sunday SETTV premieres a new idol drama after wrapping up the highly successful run of Bromance. I normally love cross-dressing hijinks but that particular drama had me in the minority of not digging it. I also like Taiwan drama takes on workplace romances which fits the bill for upcoming Refresh Man. The English title is so random since the Chinese title translates to The Era of the Late Bloomer, which describes Aaron Yan‘s character, a dunderhead in high school who turns out to be more successful as an adult professional than his school yard nemesis Joanne Tseng who was a top student growing up. Β It’s nice to give them a backstory to explain the bickering to come, and perhaps lay the foundation for why their interactions would crackle with tension and annoyance if each has a grievance with the other from the past or the present. The network released a nice long 8-minute teaser that is solid enough to merit checking out this weekend. It really does give off Office Girl and Just You vibes.

Refresh Man with Aaron Yan and Joanne Tseng Release Long Preview and Premieres Sunday — 13 Comments

  1. EEEP, so excited! Aaron’s character seems like a bit of a jerk though, doesn’t he? She worked so hard for her position! Either way, definitely tuning in tomorrow πŸ™‚

    • Isn’t that the kind of character he always plays, though? The cold jerk who turns out to be quite the nice guy? I seriously doubt he can act as any other kind of character. Then again, I always found his acting to be very lacking lol

  2. Hi Koala, I have eschewed Tdramas for many years because of the awful storylines and bad editing but started watching Bromance during a dry patch (i.e. nothing to watch in Kdrama side). At first, I was disappointed with the still awful storyline and thought that Tdramas really have not improved but then I discovered the BTS vids after every episode and that was what hooked me in. It’s a lot of effort to watch the BTS but Megan Lai and Baron Chen’s chemistry is through the roof with their off-camera antics and as a result, there are a ton of shippers who pushed this drama’s popularity sky high. Everyone agreed that the show is super cheesy but stayed to watch the OTP’s chemistry and inside jokes – my favourite being Baron’s “electrifying” eyes that can impregnate, LOL! There were also a ton of genuine kisses plus a super hot french kissing session as the final scene – something you’ll never get in asian dramas. Shippers everywhere just went crazy.

Sorry for talking about another drama in this article but couldn’t help it πŸ™‚

Tdramas following Bromance will have to up the ante in terms of skinship and kisses. I will only watch another Tdrama if it can match up.

    • As someone who just began watching Bromance and was new to Baron Chen, I’d like to agree that his eyes are crazy electrifying. I marathoned three episodes before bed and dreamt of nothing but them *.*

  3. I feel like Aaron is typecasted into these type of cold-jerk-but-warm roles. It’s a waste of his acting skills, he had proven himself to be a pretty good actor in Gloomy Salad Days and Alice in Wonder City but after he started filming SETTV dramas, he just keep on playing similar roles… the difference of his role in Just You and this drama seems pretty little. This character also reminds me a bit of Lu Tian Xing from fall in love with me.

This drama seems alright, cliche plot but the long trailer look pretty easy to watch but I just hope Aaron can take on other type of roles… sigh…

  4. It seems T drama needs better screen writers to improve declining quality. T drama used to top the Asian dramaland back in the Fated to Love You era. Correct me if I am wrong. One thing I found T drama still outperforms K drama is that there are less moronic nonsense in female lead characters and less nonsensical noble idiocy in plots. But Fall in Love with Me is one exception. I think Aaron is a diverse actor with caliber to

One thing I found T drama still outperforms K drama is that there are less moronic nonsense in female lead characters and less nonsensical noble idiocy in plots. But Fall in Love with Me is one exception. I think Aaron is a diverse actor with caliber to interpret different roles. But he was given lousy scripts except for Just You. I hope this new project will give him as well as the storyline a fresh look. It does’t matter if he still plays a cool jerk with a warm inside being. Something like Murphy’s Law of Love with a lot of character growth will be fine.

    • I personally didn’t find Murphy’s Law of Love to have lots of character growth, but mostly found its storyline similar/a copy of Just You…

I’m afraid that Refresh Man will be similar again to Just You, but I’ll give it a try.

Anyone saw Aaron in A Time of Love ? It was a slightly different role but cute !

      • The storylines of MLoL and JY are similar. They both are typical of T rom com cliche. But in MLoL, there is more self reflection/examination of personalities within main characters. It’s more about how the two flawed persons came to know each other better and eventually find happiness together.
