Major Moody Intensity in Store for Supernatural Sageuk Mirror of the Witch

Seeing more of the teasers and behind-the-scenes look at upcoming jTBC fantasy-tinged sageuk Mirror of the Witch slowly eases me into anticipation. The real life major age gap between back from the army Yoon Si Yoon and teenage Kim Sae Ron has been discussed enough so I won’t rehash it, drama wise he’s playing younger than his age as Heo Jun while she’s playing older than her age as discarded princess Yeon Hee (Seo Ri).

It’s billed as both a coming-of-age journey for her to regain her royal birth right along with a romance with Heo Jun who becomes her protector of sorts. Yeom Jung Ah is the bad witch, Lee Sung Jae the good official trying to bring the princess back, Kwak Si Yang a noble warrior, and Jang Hee Jin the queen who resorted to black magic to have royal babies only to lose one. The assembled cast can all act their pants off so I hate for a bit of disappointment with the lead age casting issue to turn me off checking this one out.

  1. I’m a huge sucker of saguek romance as long as there aren’t long monotonous narratives of court politics. After a long day of work of high intensity and concentration, I’m usually not in a state to use my brain again to care much about logic or reasoning. So this synopsis seems a very good cup of tea for me. I’m looking forward to it. I hope PD along with camera/editing crew will bring out beautiful cinematography that’s often lacking in many sagueks.
