Lee Jun Ki and IU Lead the Cast of K-Bu Bu Jing Xin at Happy Drama Wrap Party

This is a well deserved drama filming wrap party as any, with the full cast of upcoming K-adaptation of Bu Bu Jing Xin attending a shindig after a good 7 long months of filming. The fully pre-produced drama is schedule to air on SBS Mon-Tues at the end of August following Doctors, and will also air simultaneously in China for those viewers who want to sample a different take on the original source novel story by writer Tong Hua.

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (Dalui Yeonin – Bobogyungsim: Ryeo) is apparently the official English title, such a mouthful I can’t even, and maybe done because the cast is so big and bustling with famous pretty faces might as well give it more descriptors in the title. IU arrived with Kang Na Neul who is super happy despite the floppy hair all over his face, whereas male lead Lee Jun Ki is rocking the short hair and funky cool attire complete with awful jean shorts that he manages to pull off.

Lee Jun Ki and IU Lead the Cast of K-Bu Bu Jing Xin at Happy Drama Wrap Party — 45 Comments

  1. Everything about Lee Jun Ki is super gorgeous except that I hate hate hate that stupid shorts which made him look far from lanky. I know that he is considerably short compare to the rest of the male casts but Jun Ki-shi, do me a favour and get rid of that awful piece for good.

Agree that he looks younger than the rest of the boys and even funnier that he is MORE BEAUTIFUL than IU. It is really not easy to compete against Jun Ki whom androgynous look make him so suavely handsome and beautiful at the same time. Can’t see not even a trace of 4th Prince’s smexy coldness that he pulled in those SH’s stills, posters and trailers. What a chameleon he is.

Couldn’t wait for the drama to finally air on my birthday (squeal) and enjoy my birthday feasting on the smexiness that is Lee Jun Ki. I have a good feeling it will be a hit.

    • Is he really hyped? I don’t think so ( compared it with his early years ). His previous drama didn’t do well in rating. The hype was around the drama Scarlet heart and it’s biggest production.

      • U r maybe in the minority who couldnt get the appeal of Lee Jun Ki. But that’s your preference so I am ok with that.

He may not be as popular as he was back then but to think of a big budget production and large scale project that is Scarlet Heart courting him as d leading man speaks volume of what kind of an actor Lee Jun Ki. He not only has strong presence on-screen but has the star power.

It’s just too bad that his previous projects weren’t doing well as he had no control of them either but he was d one depended on to carry the shows. He was chosen to play 4th Prince because they know that if anything, you can count on him to deliver a solid performance and gives his utmost commitment.

He is versatile actor that not choosing to play safe with his role selection.

You ll learn to appreciate him eventually but if you don’t, then that’s fine also. I still think he is so ravishingly handsome and an extremely talented actor.

      • @Del, I’m not part of the minority. I’m a fan of Lee Jun ki. He is a great and talented actor ( and I love his personality), you can trust him and he never disappoint me to give a good performance, even the mess story of Scholar. English is my 2nd language (hope you understand me), I hate people saying he is hype, and then afterwards people use his name to drag down others name and belittle him once the drama didn’t do well.

    • The hype is LJK is a very charismatic actor & he looks extremely beautiful in sageuks. He has his unique charm. That pair of shorts is weird & makes him look shorter… smh… Please stay in sageuk outfits forever… lol……

    • I agree with Mimin. His features are too delicate and “pointy” for a man. But to each their own I guess…and WTH is he wearing? I hate it when Korean celebs try too hard with their fashion statements and it comes out all wrong.

    • @Shin. Am not referring to u. The comment was meant for @Mimin. Maybe I wrongly pressed the reply button. Apologized if my comment offended u.

    • I think he’s good looking in an unique way but if you are talking about the hype, I agree I don’t get all the fangirling and swooning over his beauty. That said, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder so I look at it more with amusement and figure I just don’t get it.

More than his looks, I am not impressed with his acting. Again, it’s an unpopular opinion. Far from saying he’s bad, I think he is stuck in a rut. Scholar That Walks The Night was bad and he didn’t display any good acting in there either. I was hoping that he can finally show another side to his acting in this role because the 4th Prince is supposed to be an ambitious cold bastard and number one political player. I am not so sure now because Wang So looks more emo than cold and assassin like than a manipulator. BBJX was a weird mix of fantasy+romance+power politics. I may be looking for the wrong thing in this one.

Anyway, I think he looks better in modern than saeguk. I preferred his looks in Two Weeks than all his saeguks put together.

      • Scholar Who Walks The Night not doing well has nothing to do with his acting, its all screenwriter’s problem. He has done a lot to save the show though the ship still sink eventually.

People always commented that he’s stuck playing the same role but I don’t get why it’s fine for Lee Min Ho to play high schooler over and over again, Lee Jong Seok portraying a genius time and time again or Kim Woo Bin playing bad boys frequently. I am not bashing them but I am just curious why those not being questioned.

If there’s anything about Lee Jun Ki, he is fully committed to his role. Of course, better and more popular roles selection will go to much popular younger actors like Song Joong Ki, Yoo Ah In and Kim So Hyun as they are in their prime but wait till new crops of generation come out, they will experience what Lee Jun Ki is experiencing now. He was extremely popular back then and of course now there’s new faces replacing him. LJK still doing very well and still a very much sought after actor who gets to pick and choose his project.

I have full trust that he will do well as 4th Prince. Wang So being portrayed as emo or look more like an assassin to you was never his decision to make. He is an actor not the screenwriter.

      • I can distinguish between what is a writer’s job and what is an actor’s. I didn’t care that SWWTN didn’t do well if what you meant by do well means getting high ratings. I agree that the writing was terrible but I just don’t think LJK was good in it.

When I commented that he’s stuck in a rut, I didn’t mean that he’s playing the same role. So what if it’s a saeguk again and again? Even if an actor plays the part of a scholar for the umpteenth time, there’s always room for differentiation. Clueless and clumsy scholar vs smartass and witty scholar vs suave heroic scholar. The possibilities are many. Playing the same role and genre is not problem. The problem is when an actor acts the same way, acts with the same facial expressions, displaying emotions in the same predictable ways no matter what role he plays. I don’t watch enough of LJS and KWB to comment but let’s take LMH. He plays himself in whatever role he takes. I don’t care if he’s a high schooler or a warrior or gangster, I only see LMH whenever he comes on screen. I don’t want to compare LJK to LMH because LJK is much better. It’s just that I noticed that he’s falling into that same rut.

I am not his fan and I never question any actor’s commitment to his/her role. I only judge what I can see on screen and that’s their acting.

      • We, his fans, see something on him, that the others didn’t see. Some goes to other hype actor, we didn’t see what the hype around them. It’s in everyone preference.
Re: his acting, that is the reason why I became his fan, not by his look or how good is his drama. And that is my preference.
Why does people need to ask the hype around him, if they can’t find it. Better to stick to their bias, and let his fan enjoy him.

      • We are Lee Jun Ki’s fans and we see him more than just his pretty face. In fact he is well known for his beauty but he always strikes as a really serious actor with genuine talent.

If you don’t appreciate him and couldn’t see what a great actor he is, then that’s your loss. I don’t agree that he demonstrated the same kind of expressions or acting the same way but that’s your opinion.

What i know is that he is a remarkable actor who has proven himself time and time again of what a charismatic thespian he is.

      • @D Why are you so buthurt of LJK so much? It’s annoying me, when everytime i clicked on his articles i saw you talk shit about him! Lol sorry not sorry your bashing to him is so irrelevant for us 😀

      • @Lin Couldn’t agree more.
He sure attracts @D to get her to comment on him or was the not so nice comment meant to resist his charm?
This article not only abt LJK. Why not commenting on the ones u prefer like Kang Haneul or Ji Soo?
I dont care what the minority said. LJK is my eternal bias.

  2. Omg the pics of IU and Kang Ha Neul arriving together tho…he even held the umbrella for her. <3 Please don't make the 2nd lead syndrome too strong in this drama hehe. Lee Jun Ki looks handsome as always! Good luck to all of the cast!

  3. I seriously can’t wait for this drama! IU is effortlessly beautiful and Lee Jun Ki and Kang Ha Neul are so handsome. I hope this drama is hit with all of the hard work and effort the cast/staff put into this.

IU and Kang Ha Neul were really cute coming to the wrap-up party together too ^^

  4. Lee Jun Ki is soooo handsome but whats with that fugly shorts?

Pray that the drama will be a big hit. My Jun Ki deserves all that recognitions, above most actors out there. After all hes been so hard working all these years.

  5. They outfit like somebody have been trap in flood, lol. the picture more better when they jean get crop. Lee jun ki is good actor but i like kang ha neul progress career. I like him in 20 and like for likes, and he acting is crazy in empire of lust.

  6. He is an English poet and translator named Oliver Bernard. He is gotta be around my great grandparent’s generation.

  7. Usually Lee Jun Ki has a nice style but who the heck is on his shirt and those shorts…how can you make this man look bulky? Everytime I see him, I want to make him some lasagne and fatten him up.

Regardless, I am looking forward to the drama. He chose the part for the director who makes beautiful dramas so it will be up to the writer who hopefully can put together a compelling story.

There are a lot of comments here about LJK not having a hit. I actually liked the romance of Scholar, but I know it was a disappointment that it didn’t do better. However as much as international fans didn’t take to Joseon Gunman, it performed well in Korea cracking into double digit ratings. I think it was too long and could have been better, but I have to admit I learned an amazing amount of the failing of the Joseon dynasty in that drama.

Lots of great options when it comes to dramas in 2016. Last year was a little blah.

    • Its common for actors that have passed their prime especially after Military Service to not have a hit drama. Not only my Jun Ki…Hyun Bin, Gong Yoo, Joo Ji Hoon also the same. I guess Song Joong Ki is the lucky one after MS but he is a late bloomer, he is more popular now than when he was younger. We are yet to see how Lee Min Ho, Yoo Ah In, Kim So Hyun, Lee Jong Suk n Kim Woo Bin will fare after MS. But once passing certain age, these actors dont get judge on ratings or hit dramas but on their craft. LJK been receiving rave reviews for his standout performances even his dramas not doing well. Too bad Korea has the tendency to reward based on popularity rather than the actual quality of the actor’s performance. My Jun Ki has been nothing short but spectacular. I am sure he will shine more than ever in SH.

      • I have seen a lot of LJK’s dramas and I actually think he’s gotten better and more restrained in his acting as he’s aged (which he seems to be aging backwards). While I don’t think Arang and Two Weeks were big hits because of the competition (one went up against The Master’s Sun and the other Bridal Mask), I think they were respectable and JG did fine. I think Scholar was the disappointment for the ratings but, again, I kinda liked it flaws and all.

I knew that expectations lowered for most actors after MS with a few big name exceptions, which is why they put it off. I do think luck has a lot to do with a hit drama….everything just has to be just so. I liked but certainly didn’t love DOTS and am still kind of in awe of how well it did. Happy for those involved but wondering ….why? It just is what it is so I think the best thing is to pick people you want to work with and read what few scripts you have in hand (because they haven’t written the whole drama) and do your best.

      • interesting comment. SJK is a combination of his good acting and luck (100% pre-production, beautiful cinematography, famous A-list leading actress), script is so-so but the writer is highly acclaimed… HB has excellent acting in his post MS drama, the script just sucks. LJK is great in Arang, I enjoyed it very much, maybe bcoz I also like the leading actress. I don’t want to comment about how those younger actors will fare after MS, I don’t want to get bashed… but I have my predictions… lol…

      • Interesting enough Hyun Bin, Gong Yoo and Lee Jun Ki all received great reviews for their comeback dramas despite the dramas not faring so well and not a big hit with Hyde,Jekkyl and Me and Big flopped big time.
I agree that SJK is the lucky few, maybe cos the drama is pre-produced and Kim Eun Sook is such an acclaimed writer (though seriously I couldn’t warm with her writings, dropping Dots and SG after 1 episode). Plus this is maybe his time. He was never a leading man until Innocent Man so he came off from a late start.
Ya, I am also interested to see how those new crops of actors will do after MS. Staying power in korea entertainment circle is tough with so many good looking and talented actors coming out every year.
As for now, I am just praying that SH will do extremely well. I find LJK is one of the hardest working and sincere actors so I am hoping his effort will eventually paid off.

      • Not 100% out of luck. Actor has to have enough credibility to be cast by famed directors and greed upon by famed writers.

      • @Del, SJK also did pretty well in Deep Rooted Tree and the Werewolf Boy. His performance in these two dramas was both critically acclaimed. He even won the PDs’ award for DRT. Why the prestigious award was not granted to so many other leading men but to a supporting actor like him? Think about that. The popular dama The Moon Embracing the Sun was originally offered to him as the leading man. But he turned it down bcos the role as a Jeoson king was too similar to the one in DRT. Kim Soo Hyun also mentioned that he watched DRT many times to get inspiration from SJK. This was before KSH got his breakout in the hit drama TMEBTS. I don’t think a successful comeback was merely out of luck. SJK was not as internationally famous as other Hally stars before Dots. It does not imply he wasn’t popular at home. If you ever watched korean ent news on k TV channels, you should be able to see what mean. Along with KSH, not LMH or other actors, SJK was ranked top one on many popularity polls in S. Korea before his military service. Because he picked his projects carefully to diverse his resume, he kept getting better and better and got very positive reviews from pro critics for ALL his performance including the cheaply made shoddy movie, Penny Pincher. There are reasons why famed writers like LKH and KES were willing to customize their screenplays just for SJK. I like many actors but only root for him as my bias since I’d observed his great acting talent since DRT when he had not landed a leading role yet. His huge success so far just confirms what I believe in him as a great actor.

      • @Drama2016 – Boy I haven’t been around for quite sometimes. The last I remember was when I was the avid shipper of Hwan-Hye post Lie To Me. Now, I have abandoned the ship for good. What brought me back here is how enthralled I was with the trailer of Scarlet Heart and Lee Jun Ki was the one who caught my attention and from there I started to check on his works and boy do I impressed with him. Back then I know he was extremely popular which somehow couldn’t resonate with me but now that I have watched most of his dramas with TBDAW being my favorite, I am proud to say that I am a new LJK’s fan. I know for now that SJK is the hottest commodity in Korea and it’s true, he has always been good even before Dots only that post Dots, he is gaining more recognition which he greatly deserved. Even LJK mentioned in Healing Camp episode 79 that he feels intimidated by YAI, KSH and SJK especially. Having said that, I agree that SJK is the lucky few after MS whereas LJK did happen to share the same luck, not because he wasn’t outstanding but because he happened to be in the dramas that has yet to generate great ratings despite that his performance blew me away each time. And he wasn’t the only one who suffers the same fate as mentioned, HB and GY whom are equally big stars have yet to hit jackpot after MS. SJK being offered Dots after GY turned it down does not mean other actors are not good enough to helm Dots, it is just may be KES had her preference and she does likes GY so much that her next drama will feature him as the lead. And I understand your reason for liking SJK for he seems committed to expand his craft and so do us the fans of LJK, we love LJK simply because he is an actor that is so driven and very versatile and he works hard to make himself a better actor that each time, even if the dramas failed, he still nailed it big time with solid performance. Like you said, SJK received rave reviews for his smaller performances before Dots as he was outstanding and the same as LJK, he has been receiving praises for his solid work post MS even when the dramas not doing well in the rating department. Finally, I am thankful that you agree that LJK is a awesome and same as SJK, although of course, I still think LJK is above that since he is my personal favorite but at the end of the day, we all agree that it depends on one’s personal preference and LJK resonates more to me than to you. Cheers and Peace.

    • @Drama2016

Don’t get to sensitive. I don’t think Del meant that SJK relies on his luck 100%. She was just suggesting that he is the lucky few that remains and in fact becoming more popular after MS when in most cases, MS hurt the popularity of most actors since they have been absence for 2 years and more new faces filling in the voids they left behind.
I also don’t think that Del meant that SJK is not credible as an actor. Of course, I also don’t know that he was offered the role in Moon/Sun or that KSH referred to his work in Deep Rooted Tree but it’s true that he took up quite a handful of smaller roles before becoming the leading man in Werewolf Boy and Innocent Man.
I can sense you are an avid fan of SJK but don’t get oversensitive. I am not defending Del but I don’t think she meant it the way you interpreted it.

      • I’m not sensitive. But I’m indeed defending SJK by plainly stating some facts about his acting talent and recognition in S. Korea since he’s not as internationally popular as other Hallyu stars like LMH and KSH until DotS; many international viewers simply didn’t know him well given he was absent from the dramaland for almost 2 years while other Hallyu stars had had hit dramas in the duration. The reference of 100% luck was meant to reply to all the comments here saying he’s the lucky one to get a hit drama. The lucky mention seems to imply it’s indeed his luck to get good project after MS while others failed to recover their pre MS glory becos of bad luck. Have you guys ever thought about that DotS was a huge hit thanks to him? That’s also reflected from most of the drama reviews and feedback from DotS fans outside S. Korea. It can’t guarantee DotS would have been such a huge hit if another actor (e.g. those mentioned in this thread whose dramas flopped after their MS) had played the DotS hero instead. It’s my opinion that his huge success after MS is not attributed to his luck but rather, his acting skill is great enough to make a cheesy guy in DotS not cringe worthy to watch for most viewers. Minority may not agree with me and diss up DotS in every aspect. But the drama did have a great cast including SJK to make the cheesy story sell.

As to Hyun Bin. I’m gonna say something perhaps offensive to his fans. He had successful dramas before his MS. But I have to say he seemed to have lost his steam in HJM. The failure of HJM was a combination of crappy job in script writing and directing, and also miscast as well, both of leading actors. HB couldn’t nail the role portraying someone with personality disorder, not on a par with Ji Sung in Kill Me Heal Me, nor can compare to Jang Hyuk in Beautiful Mind. I’m speaking of his acting insufficiency in HJM as someone born to a psychologist. And I absolutely have no prejudice against HB personally. In fact, I liked most of his pre-MS dramas.

      • @Drama2016 – I think DoTs was a hugh hit thanks to SJK, SHK, and the rest of amazing cast and crew. SHK deserves to take major credit also. Without an A-list actress on board, I doubt DoTs would achieve this much internationally. I like SJK’s acting a lot, I think he is a great actor with much talents, please don’t get me wrong, I know him from Running Man & his earlier projects. But a drama success takes more than one person’s effort. SJK is lucky to land this role given that he was not the first choice. He works hard and now he gets his rewards. Don’t be offended and don’t take this personally. I don’t think HB lost his steam in HJM, his acting was excellent there, but he did not get any support from the leading actress, she sucks & the script is so bad, HB is the unlucky one… smh!

    • Gong Yoo was the first choice for Dots not SJK. @Drama2016 I understand how great a fan of SJK u r but no one can really tell whether other actors could or could not performed better once the drama or the role become iconic as per Dots. I still will say that he is considerably lucky. Others may have the same acting ability but just not lucky enough to secure a good project. I am not bashing any actors here, I am just stating the general facts that for the most cases that MS does hurt actors’ popularity and despite displaying better acting performances, they didn’t get much credits because let’s face it, we are all too shallow to always judge based on viewership ratings and popularity. SJK is outstanding n so happened to gave a hit drama and he was merited for it. Since u mentioned time and time again how great an actor SJK is, well I will also mention that LJK is a great actor-genuine, charismatic and versatile.

      • We have to agree that judging whether an actor can act sometimes is all about personal preference. You may consider Gong Yoo a great actor. Not for me sorry. I’m always turned off more by overacting than underwhelming expressions. I watched Coffee Prince that was considered the most popular drama of Gong Yoo so far. It was the leading actress who kept me staying through the run. I wasn’t impressed by Gong Yoo at all. But I still gave many of his dramas a shot. Unfortunately none of his dramas were able to keep me watching to the end. So how great he is? So far I still can’t see that. Perhaps he’s getting much better after doing so many movies with good reviews. SJK’s best works so far were Deep Rooted Tree, The Werewolf Boy, and Nice Guy, not DotS in my honest opinion. Not many, but each of his works is well received and raved by critics. All of these projects were done before DotS. DotS just gave him more recognition outside S. Korea. I knew he was going to be very successful anyway given how talented he is and how smart he was always in choosing his projects to build up himself as a versatile actor. Is it pure luck? Nah..It has also to do with brain. LOL. Gong Yoo is going to work with KES very soon. (He must regret about turning down DotS offer.) Let’s see how well he will do and how popular that drama will be. I’ll be impartial. If he’s good, then he’s good. If he is lacking charisma to appeal to a lot of drama fans, no excuses even he had a hit drama long ago.

I won’t change my opinion about HB in HKM. He was simply lacking in that role. How funny his fans always blame the failure of the drama on everything and everyone else except for the leading man. My opinion about HB has nothing to do with the low ratings. Beautiful Mind is currently on its run with low ratings. But Jang Hyuk slays. I’ve watched with my Psychologist dad so many films about mental/personality disorder. Given that I was exposed to the conversations about the subject on a daily basis at home for almost two decades, reading a lot of research literature from my dad’s shelves, and also took college course in clinical psychology, I have my own take about whether an actor can act as a patient of mental disorder.

Finally, I agree Lee Jun Ki is awesome. No qualms about that

      • @Drama2016 – Boy I haven’t been around for quite sometimes. The last I remember was when I was the avid shipper of Hwan-Hye post Lie To Me. Now, I have abandoned the ship for good. 8. I thk liking or not liking an actor is a indivifual preference. For me Jun ki is a great actor. His looks are on the different side and depends on how they style him can come across as girly (thinking of My girl). But i do thk he’s looking way better than before and although not a fan of IU, will check out this drama

  9. I watch the trailers but I don’t have any feelings from IU and Lee.

Why Kang is so happy? By chance he’s got the girl lead for real? They look good together.

  10. Adoring the Ji Soo/Baekhyun bromance in the corner there! Don’t know why Nam Joo Hyuk was so far from his Ji Soo bae though.
