KBS Courts Park Seo Joon and Chun Woo Hee for Feel Good Workplace Drama Third Rate My Way

The current KBS Mon-Tues drama Hwarang will go down as a ratings and quality disappointment, despite the pre-production edge and having a sprawling cast of flower boys. Park Seo Joon is likely not as suitable for sageuk roles as he is in modern dramas so he may get a chance soon to wash the slate clean. Park Seo Joon has been offered the male lead role in the spring KBS drama Third Rate My Way (Ssam My Way), which as the title suggests is about low achievers trying to make it in a society that values educational accomplishment above all else. Hwarang finished filming last year so he’s not currently in the throes of crazy live-filming, making it possible that he may want to quickly jump back in the game with a drama scheduled to air in May. If he accepts then he’ll get a fresh-faced leading lady, at least in drama land, as award winning movie actress Chun Woo Hee will be doing her first prime time leading role in this drama.

If Park Seo Joon and Chun Woo Hee accept, he’ll be playing a former high school star athlete turned contract worker who decides to give his dreams of becoming an UFC fighter a shot, while she’s a department store clerk who keeps trying to become a network anchor. This is the type of human feel good drama that if done right K-audiences slurp up because it’s so aspirational.

  1. I love her ! She’s really a great actress and so beautiful ! I’ll be very happy to see her in a drama.

For PSJ, I’m sorry for Hwarang but his character is not interesting. I think he needs to forget this drama and find a good project !

  2. I liked Park Seo-joon in Kill Me, Heal Me, but I found him not much as likable when playing main lead roles (She was Pretty and Hwarang). I don’t know whether it’s the characters or it’s the acting or both.

    • I kind of agree with you. My fave role of his was one warm word and he wasn’t the main there either. Of all the costars he had, I liked him most with Han Groo and I really want him to another project with her. This new drama he’s looking into seems kind of boring but I wish him the best.

    • Mte. I did like him in kmhm but i dunno… It’s good that he got the lead status back but then… But at leasy he’s better than other male lead who ‘always’ got low rating in dramas.

I wonder, with their status as male lead, will they accept the 2nd lead proposal? Just like lee dong wook did in goblin?

  3. I don’t agree that Hwarang is that bad. The fact that Park Hyung Sik stole the thunder from him (that let to fanwar over at soompi until causing the thread lockdown), I may agree that he may not at his best when comes to sageuk. After watching PSJ in 2D1N, I am all excited for him to play a former athlete. He seems to embodies the traits and the potential female lead is promising too.

      • Ya. First time I encountered this kind of happening. I am just a silent lurker at soompi since I don’t register any account there, and visited the forums just to get some extra info on the dramas. The fanwar started because the forums flooded with adulation on PHS and his character (you can see most photos, videos uploaded are on him) and this, not sitting well with PSJ’s fans since he is the main lead. My takes from there is that PHS totally eclipsed PSJ in Hwarang and I could not agree more. Many came watching for PSJ but ended up staying because of PHS. But I am more surprised that actors’ fans could be as childish as idols’ fans just because they don’t worship the same oppa.

  4. I’m really loving Park Seo Joon in Hwarang and enjoying the drama alot!! <3 and hope his upcoming drama be a good one and he'll be on my small screen really soon!! ^__^

  5. Park seo joon is a good actor i liked him in she was pretty and in pots of gold but in hwarang i think that drama is a mess there is no evolution in it nothing is captivating about it not the actirs fault but the drama that is no good.

  6. That’s funny, I started watching Hwarang for Park Hyunsik, and yes he is a wonderful actor, and didn’t care much about Park Seo Joon, but I actually really enjoy his acting/character SunWoo. I feel like now I am watching for Park Seo Joon as much as Park Hyunsik! I don’t think Park Hyunsik outshines Park Seo Joon, both characters are very different and they are both doing a great job! I didn’t care for Park Seo Joon in She was pretty, but I totally love him in Hwarang! The show has issues but overall it’s a fun watch! Can’t wait to see more Park Seo Joon (and Hyunsik!) this year! Yeah!!

  7. j’adore cwh! would watch the hell out of her in a workplace drama.
not familiar with park seo joon. hope he can act a lick or he’ll be completely drowned out by her.

  8. Hwarang is one of the best Kdrama ever! Story line is great and the actors too! Definitely a thumns up for International viewers like me!
