Hyun Bin’s Next Project a Zombies in Joseon Era Movie with Cooperation Director

January was a stellar month for Hyun Bin as his 2017 is off to a box office hit start thanks to the success of North-South Korean cop movie Cooperation (Confidential Assignment). He must have liked working with Cooperation director Kim Sung Hoon because Hyun Bin’s next acting project will be to reunite with the director for another thriller movie. This one is tentatively called Brutal Enemy is described as a zombie movie set in the Joseon era. I love it, taking the runaway success of Train to Busan and do another zombie movie with no modern day technological elements. Hyun Bin’s only sageuk role was in the movie The King’s Wrath (The Fatal Encounter) which was a box office and critical disappointment but the thought of him fighting Joseon zombies is already legions more interesting than yet another palace power intrigue tale. Filming starts mid-year with a 2018 premiere date.

Clearly the zombie craze isn’t slowing down yet, har har, though this movie marks just the first to capitalize on Train to Busan’s success. I’m glad Korea isn’t running rampant to beat a genre into the ground just because it’s a hit, plus doing zombies in Joseon is fresh enough.
