It’s not often that I’m taken aback by entertainment offerings but color me happily surprised by the latest Allure Korea beauty pictorial featuring not an actress or idol starlet but instead male idol-singer Jo Kwon. He’s someone who has never shied away from his androgynous beauty and performs with confidence on stage even when doing musicals like Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. That a mainstream publication like Allure would present such a cross-gender and visually arresting pictorial makes me so happy that boundaries continue to be pushed in positive ways. His makeup is really lovely in all the shots, echoing some new trends in the always trend setting K-makeup scene. This week he also performed Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” on variety show Golden Tambourine, showcasing his singing and performing chops to an enthused audience.

Much love for this kid for his confidence and bravery being who he is in a conservative Korea. He’s come so far from being just the kkab king, which he totally owns, and i’m glad to see him getting more recognition as an amazing singer and entertainer.
