Once Promised C-drama Adaptation A Lifetime Love Releases Lead Character Posters

Adaptations of Chinese romance writer Tong Hua’s novels have been mostly a miss. Other than Bu Bu Jing Xin all else have failed to tap into what made her stories come alive on the page. From Song of the Cloud (Love Yunge From the Desert), Ballad of the Desert (Sound of the Desert), Secrets Hidden by Time (Best Time) to the most recent The Starry Night, The Starry Sea, I’ve seen beloved stories turned into dud drama productions and am horribly battled scarred and quite nervous for the upcoming fantasy period drama A Lifetime Love (Ancient Love Song) adapted from the gods and goddesses novel Once Promised based on the folktale Classic of the Mountains and Seas. While not my favorite novel it does set the stage for my favorite Lost You Forever, and there are many threads in OP that still linger this day as truly epic. Huang Xiaoming has the brash arrogance of the male lead down pat in his character poster, Victoria Song (Song Qian) is lovely and believable as a warrior goddess, but Sheng Yi Lun underwhelms as the perfect yet imperfect second male lead.

Once Promised C-drama Adaptation A Lifetime Love Releases Lead Character Posters — 8 Comments

  1. I really want to see once promised come alive, but Sheng Yi Lun was pretty underwhelming for me. I saw parts of Go Princess Go and Pretty Li Hui Shen. He just seemed stiff and pretty, which is part of his character, but he was lacking depth. Huang Xiao Ming is usually a hit or miss for me, sometimes his expressions such as in ROCH, come across as sleezy instead of charming. But I’m hoping for the best and wishing a good production of this tragedy.

  2. I have to admit that I am more excited about the Luo Yunxi and Wu Qian pairing in this drama than the main pairing. I loved them in “You Are My Sunshine,” and I can’t wait to see them reunited and portraying a couple again.

  3. Definitely will bypass this one. I dislike the main cast A LOT even the writer is one of my faves. Unfortunately her TV adaptations are mostly great disappointment so far. Song of the Clouds adaptation is a train wreck under miscast and topsy-curvy screenplay. After being hyped by original novels but ending up huge let-down by drama adaptations including General and I, Angelababy is in my shunned blacklist. A good read of C period novel with mesmerizing writing style is pretty addicting. But not many drama adaptations are satisfying so far. I will patiently wait for TV adaptation of The Flame’s Daughter (aka Liehuo Ruge) to come out on air in 2018. The casting news is out and it looks really promising given that how the main cast appear to match up the characters so much. I hope Koala will give a few pages to this highly anticipated adaptation of Min Shao Xi’s novel sometime in the future.

  4. I recently read the novel and it’s so sad… especially the end…
Wonder how they could play it out here with all the magics and emotions…

  5. So,can anyone tell me how was it? I can’t find that many reviews and really wanted to finish the novel (whose English translation is, unfortunately, on hold). I want to see it, as I loved lost you forever and heard that while that one has a more calm and mellow tone, this one is a war epic. I am not a good judge of acting and probs won’t notice bad actors until they are completely stiff or such. So I just want to know if the plot and cinematography is worth watching or not?
