Cable network OCN is taking a gamble on performance quality but will be guaranteed visual excellence returns no matter what. The network has confirmed the casting of Song Seung Heon and Go Ara as the leads for its early fall K-drama Black, a combination police procedural with the supernatural riffing off the currently in vogue grim reaper topic. Song Seung Heon plays a detective possessed by the soul of a cast off grim reaper and together with Go Ara’s character who can see the darkness they work to prevent misdeeds from happening. Recently KBS did the fun Mystery Queen with the mismatched couple of Kwon Sang Woo and Choi Kang Hee solving crimes together but they had fantastic chemistry and the stories were actually interesting so it’s going to be more than just pairing up famous names to bring to life a compelling narrative on top of using the gimmick of the grim reaper. Black airs in the fall following Save Me and will itself be followed by Bad Guys 2.
Black is penned by the screenwriter Choi Ran who wrote God’s Gift: 14 Days and Iljimae, and will be directed by thriller veteran PD Kim Hong Sun who did Voice, Pied Piper, Liar Game, Hero, and Warrior Baek Dong Soo.
