Joo Ji Hoon Takes Over for Song Joong Ki in Kingdom and Additional Heavyweights In Talks to Join

The casting trading card game is moving fast with this one, which makes sense as filming is scheduled to commence in early October. A day after news that Song Joong Ki has ultimately passed on headlining screenwriter Kim Eun Hee‘s next drama Kingdom, a new leading man has been found in Joo Ji Hoon. He’s been primarily doing movies for the last 5 years, with only Mask being his most recent drama and it was back in 2015, but I think he’s a surprising but quite intriguing choice to do a sageuk thriller with zombie scares. Also in talks to join are Ryu Seung Ryong and Bae Doo Na, confirming that Kim Eun Hee is striving to make a dark serious drama and isn’t touching inexperienced rookies or idol-actors with a ten foot pole. Kingdom is slated as an 8-episode drama streaming on Netflex mid-2018.

Joo Ji Hoon’s role is that of the crown prince of Joseon investigating a spreading disease among the population and discovering a dark secret behind it, with Ryu Seung Ryong playing a character who wields more power than the King. Bae Doo Na is considering the female lead role which I assume will be kickass and worthy of her amazing acting skills.

  1. I think it will be interesting to see what the writer comes up with as she’ll have so much creative control. Have to admit I am a little over the zombies. Netflix obviously wants to build their subscription base in Korea. Don’t know if they will have much luck, but it’s good for me. ?

  2. Amazing casting. Ryu Seung Ryung, Bae Doona, and Jo Ji Hoon are all brilliant. This is better casting than the previous one actually

  3. Joo Ji Hoon as a crown prince!Yessssssssssssssss please! That is way better than SJK.
The cast is perfect. Now fingers crossed Netflix wont mess this up!

    • I’m not keen on him in the leading role either. Has he accepted? I should be thankful that no idol is headlining this right? Anyway, love the rest of the cast. Now that the writing is done for Kingdom, it’s time for Signal Season 2 !!!

  4. Very excited about this cast line-up. Hope it pans out and we get another exceptional KEH drama with excellent script, great cast and strong direction. Can’t wait

  5. now-i-have-a-reason-to-watch-this.

    I-love-JooJiHoon.So-excited-for-BaeDoona-after-Stranger.

    Thank-God,SoongJoongKi-refused-the-drama.

  6. JJH was so bad as an actor(and yet kind of cute with YEH) in Goong but I like him in his new projects. Plus RSR and Bae Doona – who is definitely better than the Great Wall of China as Ruby Red says! After a long time I am interested in a K-drama, despite Netflix’s record.
