Yoo Dong Geun and Weekend Drama Marry Me Now Win Major Awards at 2018 Korean Drama Awards

The most exciting thing at the 2018 Korean Dramas Awards was how utterly lackluster it was. Other than veteran Yoo Dong Geun showing up to accept his Daesang and his weekend drama Marry Me Now winning Best Drama, it was an event where I was struggling to find reason why it existed. It felt like the winners were anyone who agreed to show up, and maybe Kam Woo Sung and Chae Jung Ahn had a free night and I am happy whenever they win an award but feel this one was for the teenyboppers. The ladies of the 2018 Miss Korea pageant attended so that was fun for the navel gazing but for their mostly meh gowns. Idol-actors Chansung and Cha Eun Woo took home Hallyu Awards (quelle surprise) and overall this was a tinny way to kick off the 2018 Korean acting awards season.

2018 Korean Drama Award winners:

Daesang: Yoo Dong Geun (Marry Me Now)

Best Drama: Marry Me Now

Best Actor: Kam Woo Sung (Should We Kiss First?)

Best Actress: Wang Bit Na (Mysterious Personal Shopper)

Excellent Awards: Chansung 2PM (What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim), On Joo Wan (Man in the Kitchen), Chae Jung Ahn (Suits)

Hallyu Star Awards: Chansung (What’s Wring with Secretary Kim) and Cha Eun Woo (My ID is Gangnam Beauty)

Star of the Year: Jo Woo Rin (My ID is Gangnam Beauty)

Special Jury Award: Park Jung Soo (My Husband Oh Jak Doo)

Lifetime Achievement Award: Kim Young Ok

  1. Cha Eun Woo looks adorable. Disappointed for Im Soo Hyang for not getting an award, yet Jo Woo Ri won Star Of The Year.

    • Was it that or the other way around? Only the nominated ones went as it would have been pointless if not receiving an award?

I’m disappointed for Im Soo Hyang for not getting the recognition when she played the main role in My ID Is Gangnam Beauty. I’m not sure if she would have passed on an awards night, if she had been nominated.

Either way, happy for CEW and JWR as they both did a good job and i enjoyed the drama. CEW was gorgeous in the drama.

  2. Cha Eun Woo also gets the Best New Actor award. He is very handsome (Face Genius), his acting still has lots and lots of room to improve and I hope he will succeed given that he is now majoring in performing arts. I look forward to his next drama 🙂 Chansung’s nomination and winning is a bit of a surprise to me (Junho is still the best actor from 2pm but he did not get any nomination this year). Jo Woo Rin is very pretty and I hope she can advance to a leading role very soon.

    • For Junho to not even get one nomination for his acting in Just Between Lovers is disappointing, he’s really underrated.

Wait why Park Seo Joon got more nominations and higher awards than Park Min Young? She carried the drama, yes, I like PSJ’s performance, but she was better. Sigh.

This just proves me that this awards are just for the popular ones, the ones who attended or because they’re going to work or worked for channel that nearly owns the awards

      • Park seo jun is an average actor at best. Sorry not sorry but he has no depth on the other hand park min young is an good actress and a honest one not some one who uses connections to get awards she is consistant. Now with namooactors as an agency getting awards will be a faar fetched dream. They dont buy awards for their actors they may buy work for them. They dont hide their actors acting flaws. Even ji sung who won daesang is now being critisised for his performance and he is giving no excuses.

  3. One thing to say i was sick of weird awkward poses of kmale actors while posing they stand like someone is torturing them to pose. But kam woo sung looks so relaxed. Its refreshing to see. Only few kactors posses this quality which is wierd

  4. the eligiblity period is october of the previous year (2017) to september of the current year (2018). nominees are chosen from korean dramas aired on the 3 major networks ( KBS, MBC, SBS) and cable channels. so I really really wonder why a lot of good and more deserving dramas/actors/actresses were not included on the nominees or even awarded as winners. I don’t get it. so LAME!!!!! This is the WORST korean drama award ever.
