100 Days My Prince with D.O. and Nam Ji Hyun Ends as 4th Highest Rated tvN Drama

It took me a little longer than usual to write about recently wrapped Mon-Tues tvN sageuk romance drama 100 Days My Prince (Dear Husband of 100 Days) and not for lack of success of this drama. The series ended with a time slot high of 14.412% and also on average is the fourth highest rated tvN drama of all time after Answer Me 1988, Goblin, and Mr. Sunshine. I just got progressively more and more detached from the initially riveting story line and found the drama narratively limping to a finish. It’s boring to have one big bad pulling all the strings with zero nuance other than being power hungry and wanting his bloodline on the throne one day. Leads D.O. and Nam Ji Hyun were excellent, had great chemistry, but there adult characters never reached the cuteness heights of their child story line and ultimately I wasn’t invested by the end with their happily ever after. I’m glad it ended well and the drama was such a deserving success because it was well made and well acted.

100 Days My Prince with D.O. and Nam Ji Hyun Ends as 4th Highest Rated tvN Drama — 27 Comments

  1. Will you be writing an end-of-year review of all the dramas you managed to finish (or close to finishing) this year? It’s been a while since you wrote one and I’ve missed it.

  2. I agree with koala. By the end of epi 10 I lost the interest towards the show. Plot was good but narration was slow and boring. Nevertheless I am happy for kyungsoo. He was effortlessly brilliant in the show.

    • I dont think so. There were a lot dramas with exo members but only this drama got hyper reviews. Also high rating.

I agree that most of exo l watched this drama but koreans just loved this drama. High rating wont work only with fanbase. The same goes to music chart. Since exo hasn’t got certified all kill, so fanbase cant work alone.

  3. There’s something annoying about Nam Ji Hyun’s acting, I can’t pinpoint what it exactly is. It’s got something to do with the way she delivers her lines and her voice which I find unattractive.

    • I often wonder if you have anything good to say about anyone. It’s not “hip” to keep spewing negative comments just because you can.

      • She was just sharing her opinion that NJH acting not resonating with her for a certain reason. It should not be taken directly as negative. Bashing is negative. Stating opinion that is not similar to others with a valid reason is not negative at all. Don’t be oversensitive.

  4. Couldnt agree more! I watched it because it’s so hyped but I dropped in ep 5. Their acting were great; the storyline was the main problem. It’s such a waste for their talents 🙁

  5. I was so excited for this, but the writing was a huge letdown for me early on. This writer had a tendency to unnecessarily withhold information that would make certain character actions and thought processes understandable. That, or there were some editing mistakes that just left me puzzled. I couldn’t follow Hong-shim’s train of thought early on so I couldn’t root for both the character and the romance. A shame since everything else is good. But I’m looking forward to DO and Nam Ji-hyun’s next projects.

  6. r1988, goblin, mr sunshine are classic. 100 days are just there. im really surprise it has so high rating while many hype drama like misty, something in the rain, Secretary Kim only get 7-8%, even signal rank lower than this. The drama was really cute at first but then there is nothing to write home about. The story is as basic as it is. But its good debut for d.o, yeo jin goo should have a success drama like this.

  7. Koreans like Sageuk dramas so it is not surprising to get decent ratings. Storyline is simple, and the leads are excellent. Nothing overly bad so it is reasonable that audience will stay with this drama since there is nothing better to watch. I am just happy to watch NJH. And I will also happily move onto MCW for her Mama Fairy drama 🙂 Hope the good ratings will stay.

  8. I really tried to watch this but like you said, after the riveting end of the childhood I lost interest quickly. I was also puzzled by the relationship between the brother and the crown princess. I don’t know if it was because of the lack of chemistry or whether it was because their arc wasn’t fleshed out well but I couldn’t buy into their relationship. Otherwise the acting was fine but I didn’t find the storyline captivating or anything spectacular.

  9. I must say I am happy for Nam Ji Hyun but the writing was a huge let down. I even could get into Scent of A Woman of the same writer but here I just couldn’t become that invested in the drama.

  10. Loved and enjoyed watching “100 Days, My Prince” ??????? Love NJH since “Shopping King Louis” and “Suspicious Partner.” I watched this drama because of her (and she didn’t disappoint), and I enjoyed watching D.O. (though I’ve never seen nor heard of him before) too. NJH and D.O. had an amazing chemistry ? and I love every scene they were in together. They were so cute in this drama. They kept me watching. ?

  11. I just watched this drama in 2020. the plot was sinple but i loved the main leads DO and Nam ji hyun. how i wish that there was a grand wedding at the last episode but nevertheless, it was a good light sageuk for me.
