tvN Wed-Thurs Drama Her Private Life Premieres with Decent 2.661% Ratings

My new drama crack is here and it’s nearly lived up to my own hyped up hype. I totally get that my love for Kim Jae Wook and soft spot for Park Min Young irrationally gives Her Private Life more dues that it earned in the promo stage but now that it’s aired I can safely say it’s good enough to merit all my affection. The first episode brought in 2.661% which isn’t bad but not primed for being a tvN hit yet. The reviews are mixed, with some not seeing any difference in Park Min Young’s performance from Why Secretary Kim or finding the story rather thin, and others enjoying the cute lighthearted romp without a lot of pointless stakes. I’m in the latter category, this story is sweet and simple so I can enjoy the pretty and just be a fangirl for once. Nicely done, drama casting gods.

tvN Wed-Thurs Drama Her Private Life Premieres with Decent 2.661% Ratings — 33 Comments

  1. I said I wouldn’t watch HPL but I miss KJW ❤️so wish me luck I’m gonna start episode one. I’m enjoying Special Labour Inspector Ji Jang Poong withKim Dong Wook and Park Se Young and Welcome to Waikiki 2 on Mon-Tues nights so I need a filler for Wed-Thurs.

    • Got through the 1st ep and I’m liking it which is a good sign and I’m enjoying the storyline and PMY has converted me too so I’m definitely staying on. Geez the drama is fun and it’s an easy watch with lols along the way. I did learn that it’s a task to fangirl- you gotta have energy, dedication, passion, tenacity and a whole lotta dosh if you follow an idol. Too much hard work as far as I’m concerned. I’ll just stick to reading the online articles. Well done HPL cast n crew looking forward to seeing more ❤️

  2. Getting low rating cause park min young acting same like secretary kim. And Kim jae wook ugly man doesn’t have sex appeal.

  3. Well.. I liked it. They have chemistry.
But for a split second, I thought it was Yamapi who was acting in there lol. They look so similar.

  4. I agree that PMY is not bringing anything new to this drama and I also find the storyline thin. Her acting as a hardcore fan is not believable.
But then again, I’m never her fan, so my opinion could be biased. I’ve only watched her in Healer and even then, I joined that ride solely for JCW.
KJW is as handsome as ever, but that’s not a good enough reason to continue with this drama, so I will skip this.

  5. She changed skirts for suit pants, personally I don’t like the story line on this kdrama. If she was a college student maybe but a grown up woman being a fangirl. My personal opinion her acting is a little over the top with the fangirl. I really enjoyed What’s wrong with secretary kim. I like the lead actor

    • @Damaris, I completely agree with you! I watched the first episode thinking, “Am I too married or too much of a mother to relate to another thirty-something spending all her money on some random dude? Additionally, “why is a grown woman who lives on her own, has a good paying job and a great best friend spending her time like this?” I struggled with this drama and I am a huge PMY fan.

  7. I really didn’t have high hopes in terms of ratings for this kind of drama. Fangirling is mostly being looked down upon anyway hence the professionals ‘in hiding’. I’m just enjoying it right now as a light fun-filled drama. An eye opener to the things die-hard fans do for their idols. And being reminded that ‘they are born and not made’…lol.

  8. Story is not appealing and very cringey that a matured age 30+ career woman would bother to jostle with other crazy fan girls almost half her age for a boy who’s young enough to be her son. Only watching for KJW who is perfect for the role of aloof and suave Ryan.
PMY can’t lead rom-com. She’s better off doing melo roles.

    • In korean culture in not uncommon for mature womem well in 30s to still act as teenagers…Nothing unusual about this..maturity level are not the same as western

  9. 2% is very low.
I guess Korean audience got sick of cheesy rom-coms after Touch Your Heart. Although story on fangirl culture is rather unique.

  10. PMY is now stale like an old cracker. I used to support her but she recycles her acting to the point of stale bordom…. I am watching for KJW, but the story is cringy and thin, let’s see how long KJW can keep me for this drama. Agree that 2% is very low. Even Touch Your Heart did better in ratings. I much prefer Confession by Junho in terms of acting and storyline (I know they are of different genre, but same tvN channel).

  11. Not sold yet, maybe my hope was too high, but i’ll Watch a little bit…who knows ?Touch your heart was so boring and cringy ! Agree with @candycane about Confession even if it’s a different genre. Can someone recommend me some good dramas of this year . I only finish Legal High and what’s wrong Po0ng Sang ?

  12. It’s only just the first episode. I would wait and see more before I pass judgement
I find KJW handsome but abit stiff. He’s good in acting evil. Acting in rom com, he needs to relax and give more facial and body expression. Anyway still, he’s okay and this is only the first episode. Let’s see how he does in the next episodes
PMY is okay. She’s a veteran actor who acted in quite a wide spectrum of casts from melo, legal, action to rom com. I have faith that she’s good and has proven it in the recent What’s wrong with secretary kim.
In Her private life, she’s acting typically as what her cast requires. It happens that the script is almost similar to What’s wrong with secretary kim. Let’s watch the next episodes and then ,,,,

    • Me too I’m hooked and thoroughly enjoying the drama so far as it’s got everything I want; easy to follow storyline, relatable characters and laughs along the way. I’m happy with tuning in to HPL it’s actually worth the wait. I never thought I would write this but Im finding PMY character a joy to watch more then KJW.

  13. Lols, i have a friend who is still a fangirl of a 3rd or even 4rd generation kpop boy group. Can relate. Fangirling in korea is such a ‘job’. They are so professional in editing and taking pictures. Their equipments are like professionals. Daebak.

For this story itself, hmm… It’s typical k romcom… Not surprised with the rating. Pmy’s acting is just so so. Nothing new. Kjw surprisingly is better in antagonist characters. But hey, it’s only 2 episodes, nothing much to judge. Gonna give it another chance, who knows im gonna love it.

Ps : One is really handsome.

  14. I enjoyed the first two eps. My only initial expectation was good chemistry between the leads. So far i loved their interactions. I swooned whenever LJW came onscreen. I was so glad he plays along PMY cos they are visually stunning and match very well.

  16. Eeeekkkk I think I started falling in luv after epi 3 and I like the cast so far. All of them look as if they’re jelling well together.

  17. I like HPL. I like the casting. I like simple story, but real. KJW and PMY are two of my favorites. I don’t care what others said. I will watch the drama until the end. And in my opinion, I know that there are plenty of older women who still does fangirling. Fangirling needs money. Only fans with enough money would have luxury to do fangirling. They may not be so open about it. But they do it.
