The currently airing Wed-Thurs MBC drama Spring Night is growing on me so I’m less pressed for it to finish and romance sageuk Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung to take over. I was initially bored senseless by the story in Spring Night but found the acting beautifully restrained and now the story is picking up the drama has that nice balance of interesting and compelling to watch. Rookie Historian has the visuals and a compelling set up already, with a female lead played by Shin Se Kyung who is aiming to become the first female in Joseon era to ink the official annals of their times. Her first set of solo drama stills present that quest head on, with her holding a book, writing on the ground, and generally looking in charge and not a shy lady flower covered in a cape over her head. Shin Se Kyung looks a billion percent the part and I hope she brings with it enough fire and commitment to bring her character to life.
The first still reminds me of belle from beauty and the beast lol I hope they do give her the same kind of headstrong and brilliant spirit like belle.
