Jasper Liu Makes Assertive Confidence and Frustrated Pensive Both Sexy in Episode 3 of Before We Get Married

There’s a mixed reaction to TW-drama Before We Get Married with the domestic audience, it’s a cult hit with all valid criticisms. Leading lady Puff Guo‘s acting remains at the level from when she last worked with male lead Jasper Liu (Liu Yi Hao) while he’s improved leaps and bounds and it shows, but to an addicted viewers that doesn’t matter when they radiate that indelible chemistry onscreen that’s worth more in a rom-com that good acting. Episode 3 made me care about male lead Ke Huan as a person rather than as a plot device driver, why he’s stuck in a loveless credit card relationship with his clingy girlfriend because of some “promise to mom” is beyond me but it’s clearly weighing on him.

It does frustrate me that he’s attracted to Wei Wei because she’s the exact opposite of his annoying girlfriend – Wei Wei is frugal and works hard at everything while the annoying girlfriend only knows how to spend money and try to schedule Ke Huan’s life with no aim of her own. But if it gets him to finally break free and also engage in some lurid proposal of sleep with me for a condo price discount fine by me because ultimately he’s a gentleman and Wei Wei is so attracted to him back she also needs this wake up call with her own boyfriend.

  1. I’m loving Jasper’s portrayal of Kehuan so far. They’ve mostly managed to straddle that fine line between very confident and overally aggressive with that character. There were some stumbles early on, but so far the writing and acting have managed to redeem Kehuan. While it would be nice to see more range from Puff, the leads still have that strong chemistry that got me through their last drama. This time it’s even more explosive! So far all the push and pursual have been on KH side, but with what looks like a marriage proposal in the preview, I’m ready to see Wei Wei take some control of her own life instead of just following in her BFs wake.

  2. I just can’t stop watching Kehuan, he’s so addictive! His character is frankly a bit on the grey zone, because he does have his super push and grabby moments but it fits his character, he’s a bit of “crazy”. Whenever he’s on screen, I feel that magnet pulling me in, especially the subtle changes in his gaze whenever he looks at Wei Wei or when he looks at Gao Zi Yuan, it’s all these intricate moments that make his performance more compelling. Jasper really came a long way.

  3. Huaaaa… Im glad that he took this character to the next level. While some of his fellow actors got stagnant with the same repetitive character. I could feel his emotion in every scene. And this story is not TW typical drama. Wei wei in another hand isnt stupid but she is the character of some women’s nowadays.

    Can’t wait for tonight’s ep 4.

  4. Ep4 even better than 3

Ke-huan’s gf is DELUSIONAL, seriously delusional. She knows the truth but she has no balls to confront it.

  5. This drama is getting better and better.
The interesting part is that in this love quadrangle, both guys are very straight forward about their feelings. It is the girls that are indecisive, even clinging on in the name of love, and yet this actually mirrors real-life relationships.
The side characters works well to provide different views eg. Kefei and Ziting are so refreshingly straightforward.
Overall, this might turn out to be the best TW drama in recent years.
