Multiple K-dramas Halt Production Due to COVID-19 Spike in South Korea Including Moon Rising Over the River, Joseon Exorcist, and Sisyphus: The Myth

While COVID-19 has been in the news for a full year now there are ebbs and peaks depending on so-called spikes which seems to be like Groundhog’s Day. It feels like things are getting better and then it gets worse again and on and on the cycle goes. We’re in a bad cycle again, in the US for sure, but also South Korea and this week it’s caused a cascade impact on K-dramas. Filming has been shut down on the set of sageuk Moon Rising Over the River after an extra tested positive for COVID-19, which also led to the shut down of Joseon Exorcist which uses the same set. Sisyphus: The Myth has also stopped filming though the leads have tested negative so far. OCN drama The Uncanny Couter cancelled its press conference this week and tvN drama Birthcare Center also called off it’s mid-drama interviews with the media. The entire cast and crew was tested for Netflix drama So Not Worth It (Hope the Earth Collapses Tomorrow) so that will continue on with filming.

Latest news is the following dramas are also halted in filming due to COVID-19 exposure: Penthouse, Snowdrop, The Spies Who Loved Me, and Hush. Sigh. Please everyone be well and those who tested positive have a full recovery.

  1. It’s a good thing to see the production companies and studios being cautious and zippy to take actions. Good luck to everyone involved and may everyone be safe and healthy.

  2. Better safe than sorry. Mr Queen also halted production. Saeguek dramas especially have large casts full of extras so this was eventually bound to happen. Hopefully everyone recovers fully and production can continue smoothly again.

    • I’m hoping that one is good! KSH is fantastic in sageuk and of course a Kang Haneul appearance is bonus but it’s Ji Soo I worry about, he emotes well but him in sageuk…..he wasn’t very good at the speech in Scarlet Heart. Hope he’s improved since then.
