K-streaming Platform TVing Selects Best K-dramas of 2020 as Hospital Playlist in First Half and Start-Up in Second Half

This selection feels like taking a cudgel to to tofu carving but it’s still entertaining to read about. Streaming platform TVing in South Korea is obviously benefiting from the migration from television to online consumption of entertainment programs so they do have a pulse of what’s good/popular from what viewers watch. Their own pick in 2020 for the best shows streamed are: Hospital Playlist for the first half of 2020, Start-Up for the second half, Perennial Stream Winner pick is Hotel Del Luna (still going strong I see!), and finally 2018 fantasy period C-drama Ashes of Love (香蜜沉沉烬如霜) with Yang Zi and Deng Lun was selected as most popular overseas drama streamed in South Korea.

  1. Ooh ashes of love. It’s a crack show, it’s fun while it last but so many weird and dumb decision happen. At least they are immortal to reflect on it

    • None of them have time to reflect on anything. They, ( Cdramas) are too busy producing hundreds of very lengthy dramas every year and making money. Kdramas are produced no more than a few dozen a year, so maybe they care more about quality and genre. And have more time to reflect.

      • Um… I think Peggy was talking about the immortal characters in Ashes of Love reflecting. What are you talking about?

  2. Aww Hospital Playlist and Start Up were my two favorite dramas the year. HP was so unexpectedly good, the writing, the characters and the music being top notch. I need season 2 of HP ASAP lol

    • I agreed. I usually don’t watch Chinese dramas but browsing through Netflix one day and got nothing else to watch, decided to try Ashes of Love because it keeps popping up. It was the best decision ever. I haven’t bawl my eyes out like that for any drama in a long time.
