Nam Ji Hyun and Chae Jong Hyeob in Talks for TVing K-drama Welcome to Witch’s Restaurant Joining Song Ji Hyo

A new K-drama is in the works and will be streamed solely on TVing, the Korean online platform. It’s called Welcome to Witch’s Restaurant (Come to Witch’s Restaurant) based on an award winning short story submitted to a writing contest. It tells of a witch running a restaurant that can grant wishes which in turn heals those who eat there. It sounds kinda like Mystic Pop-up Bar and I like this cast better so am happy to hear of another warm healing drama in development. Song Ji Hyo has signed on to play the titular witch who runs the restaurant while younger stars Nam Ji Hyun and Chae Jong Hyeob will play the leads who find solace at the restaurant as they face an ordinary life and/or shuttered dreams. It’s from the PD of Memorist who also produced It’s Okay to Not be Okay and 100 Days My Prince with a scheduled airing in the latter half of 2021.

  2. I’m not a fan of Song Ji Hyo as an actress, her last drama was really bad. I would prefer that Nam Ji Hyun doesn’t take this one.

I think the casting of Mystic Popo-Up bar worked well together.

    • @Sayaris

I agree with you. While Song Ji Hyo excels in variety, her being in a drama signals a huge probability that the drama would flop. She hasn’t had a good drama in like… forever. When I saw her name being paired up with Nam Ji Hyun, I had chills. I’ve waited for like what seems forever for another Nam Ji Hyun drama, I really want it to be good. I hope Nam Ji Hyun opts out of this one.

  3. Yeeeeey, finally a Nam Ji Hyun casting news. I am seriously hoping that the plot is good and exciting. all the best to this drama!!!

    • After several months of waiting we got casting news from Nam Ji Hyun. NJH does not do drama every year so this news makes her fans, like me, happy and excited.
Let this be a good project for my NJH. Fervently praying.

  4. I hope she confirms as I need a new drama from Nam ji hyun.

in her future projects, I want to see her work again with Lee jòon Hyuk in a melo /romcom.

  5. Apologies, but nowhere else to post this. Can anyone kindly share reviews on Luca: The Beginning drama? It premiered yesterday. Thanks in advance.

    • Hum, I just watched the first episode and it’s hard to have an opinion for now. I will try the second. It’s kinda like Awaken but in more “bold”.

      • Ooh, I liked Awaken. Does KRW get a hair makeover at any point or does it stay the same as the catastrophe we saw in the teasers? Lol. Thanks for sharing, Sayaris.

    • I have a mixed feeling about the pilot episode. The cinematography and directing is very good. The plot seems unstable now, a lot of questions and confusion are there. At the same time, it had some stupid stuff with FL personality.
I’m not dropped it yet. I will ep 2 for the plot development. Still I love the actors so much. I hope there will not be a waste for talented cast.

      • Ah, I see. I’ll try it out when I get the chance. Thanks for sharing your perspective, Jessica.

      • @aurora

Are you still by chance watching true beauty? I’m upset they made 2Fl a scum monster. I like how they made her family more pleasing. And I like how they made her confront her “ugly” appearance, I like the message. More than the webtoon. I still prefer her with 2ml haha

      • Laura! How I’ve missed you! Or rather, talking TB with you. Hehehe. Yes, I’m still watching and still loving it despite the cringe. Lol. And there have been so many fun and heart-tugging moments. But oh my gosh, what was that ending in EP14? I remember that scene from the webtoon but isn’t it too late in the game for Ju-kyung and Seo-jun?

      • @aurora

? I think there were some positive changes, I finally like her family as a whole. I think the writer ran out of ideas and throw in that last minute device to split them up before the expected reunion. In the webtoon they weren’t together before Suho left the country but in the drama they are officially together before he left. So what’s the point? Haha unfortunately it’s too late. And I’m going to feel so bad if seo-jun has been looking out and taking care of her for the two years Suho is gone and then he’s gets a final rejection 🙁 and why must they make soojin evil? Ughhhhh

      • Yeah, I also believe the writer ran out of gas. I feel like because it was CEW (and not an unknown actor) playing Suho, they felt compelled to make him and Ju-kyung the OTP, contrary to the webtoon where Ju-kyung dated Seo-jun.

Poor Seo-jun. That scene where he asked permission to confess to Ju-kyung so she would reject him then he could move on? ? That hurt! As for Soo-jin, they just used her to force Ju-kyung to face her fears. Not fair to the character they built up as loyal and cool in the beginning. Hopefully, they’ll redeem her in the last two episodes. And give Seo-jun a satisfactory ending.

Are you watching anything else aside from TB?

      • @aurora

I agree it’s because of the star power. We just to try harder to accept the things we can’t change haha

If they made soojin antagonistic in the beginning and then soften her, okay but doing a reverse spin just makes it frustrating for me. I agree they wasted her character. I wouldn’t be surprise if they redeem her but I think it will feel cheap but we shall see. I’m not sure how they will give Seo-jun a satisfactory ending but I wouldn’t hold my breath haha

Im watching unrequited love, a Chinese drama with a friend but I don’t think it’s that good. The main leads and the 2fl is just irksome. I’m just waiting for River where the moon rises and Vincenzo to come out, I might also check out Sisyphus the myth haha

      • Oooh I’m totally looking forward to those dramas too! Plus some others to come later in the year. Fingers crossed they’ll all be good and successful. ?

      • @ aurora

Same ? I’ve been in a drama slump. I’m still waiting for mr. queen to end before I decide watching it haha

      • I feel you. Some of the dramas I was live-watching ended so I’m stuck with Mr. Queen and True Beauty. I wanted to try She Would Never Know but it doesn’t sound like my kinda drama. Oh, I saw someone rave about Marriage Lyrics Divorce Music on this site and tried it. I enjoyed it. It’s not as makjang as I feared it would be. So that’s on my live-watch list as well.

  6. I have missed Hyunnie terribly. Been dying to see her act in a new drama. Happy to see she’s doing different genres after 100 Days My Prince. No more rom-coms or OTP storylines. Slow and steady in building her acting resume since 365 RTY ended. After 6 months break, she shot 2 episode JTBC short drama Departed From the Path last Nov. Now WTWR has only 8 episodes. I wish I can see more of Hyunnie gracing the screen. She’s one of the most talented actresses in her age group yet I have been seeing so little of her lately. Sigh, I guess she’s happy spending time with family & raising Tancookie and Monet so I respect her pace of doing dramas. Fighting NJH.

  7. I have a mixed feeling about the pilot episode. The cinematography and directing is very good. The plot seems unstable now, a lot of questions and confusion are there. At the same time, it had some stupid stuff with FL personality.

  8. i miss Ji hyun and want her to confirm. Im a fan of Hyunnie. I watched all her drama from what happens to mg family, shopping king louis, Suspicious Partner, 100days My prince to 365 Repeat the Year. I really liked 365, her character as Shin Ga Hyun as a perfectionist webtoon writer was good, it was well written and well acted and her chemistry with Lee joon hyuk was adorable. Hope to see them in a rom com or drama soon.

As for this drama, i hope the plot is interesting. I have never seen any song ji hyo drama so im quite excited to see her act with Hyunnie

    Fighting Nam Ji Hyun!!!

  9. Ah, Song Ji Hyo. First saw her in Princess Hours where I found her acting stiff compared to Yoon Eun Hye. SHJ’s last 4 dramas had low ratings & low impact even for cable channels like tvN and JTBC. So I can imagine the casting people are hunting for more talented co-stars to lift up the drama. SJH has been in talks for it since May 2020 but the show simply could not take off until now. Hope Nam Ji Hyun will decline. This kind of drama has been done before – Witch’s Love (MBN 2018) starring Yoon So Hee, Hyun Woo & Lee Hong Bin. Three witches who run a rice soup restaurant. Hope the writing contest winner didn’t rip off from the MBN drama.
