Song Ji Hyo, Nam Ji Hyun, and Chae Jong Hyeob Serve Up Dishes and Wishes in First Posters for Welcome to Witch’s Restaurant

The fantasy genre in K-dramas continues to go strong and up next is streaming platform TVING with Welcome to Witch’s Restaurant. I’ll confess to probably letting this one slip by but for the fact that it stars Nam Ji Hyun and rising rookie actor Chae Jong Hyeob which is enough for me to check out, and I’m not allergic to the titular witch in the drama Song Ji Hyo so I’m good for some scares. It’s based on a novel and tells the story of a strange woman who runs a restaurant and can grant wishes with a dish she cooks up, but in exchange for something from the diner. The first posters are totally a mash up of Hotel Del Luna and Sell Your Haunted House (Daebak Real Estate) in visuals and vibe, less true horror and more spooky what’s going on curiosity. The witch’s restaurant itself also looks that Go Moon Young’s creepy estate in It’s Okay to Not be Okay, and now I just feel like I watch too many K-dramas to immediately pick up on so many similarities lol.

  2. My fave girl is back. So happy to see her again after 365 Repeat The Year. I missed her short drama Off Route so just relieved it’s going to be on tving. Great looks, great vibes. I suppose there’s no romance but I’m just going to enjoy it before JH disappears again till next year. Make more dramas girl or at least do a couple of magazine photoshoots. It has been ages.

  3. Fantasy is a hit or miss. Since this is based on a novel, less chance of messing things up. Love njh as child actress and adult actress. Fighting njh! Wish she would act again with phs, jcw & sig. I reckon she has the best chemistry with these three actors. She’s steering away from rom-com & leaning towards female-centric dramas. Smart choice.

  4. Honestly, I think Song Ji Hyo will suit this character. In my opinion, she’s great in more serious role (she was amazing in the movie Intruder!), but she lacks comedic timing and mannerisms to be able to play more bubbly and feisty characters that are the typical characters of rom-coms. She should stop trying to be in comedy and that would do wonders for her career.

    • Yup, she was amazing in my wife has an affair too.
her debut and past project before get famous because running man, were serious projects.
Maybe because her variety persona, she got casted mostly on romcom

  5. Only 8 episodes. Love NJH’s work. Too bad we’re seeing less & less of her each year. Please don’t disappear so soon eonni. We know you love your tanku and mone but don’t forget us fans too. Lol.

  7. Im really liking Nam Ji Hyun’s career choices lately, it’s not predictable that’s for sure. I especially loved her in 365 repeat the year, hope she does more thrillers.

  8. Song Ji Hyo is very weird in that her attractiveness drops 10 levels when she’s in a drama compared to when she’s in variety. I’m allergic until she shows more. There is reason why she’s the only actress in her 40s without a single acting award to her name.

  9. SJH’s dramas were mostly duds with one dipping to 0.6%. The ones that did ok were bolstered by Lee Sun Kyun, Lee Dong Wook & Choi Jin Hyuk. Massive hits were Princess Hours & Jumong where she wasn’t the lead. What happened to her I wonder. She did well in movies like Frozen Flower, Late Blossom & Intruder. If she brings movie charisma to this drama it’ll be all right.

    • Most likely NJH was roped in as “insurance” in case SJH couldn’t carry this drama on her own. Just my wild guess, could be wrong. I heard they had trouble securing funding in early 2020 when casting of SJH was announced. Filming postponed to this year until after NJH joined the cast.

      • There may be some credence in this. Hence 8 episodes (instead of usual 12-16) with no mention of further seasons.
