jTBC Finalizes Casting for My Ahjusshi Screenwriter’s Next Drama My Liberation Diary with Lee Min Ki, Kim Ji Won, Lee El, and Son Seok Gu

I love seeing an award winning screenwriter take the time before churning out another work. Deep and meaningful writing is hard to produce commercially and I like that My Ahjusshi and Another Oh Hae Young screenwriter Park Hae Young has taken a nearly three year gap before coming back with a new work. The drama is titled My Liberation Diary and will air on jTBC, likely in early 2022. The cast includes Lee Min Ki, Kim Ji Won, Lee El, and Son Seok Gu, so everyone can act but there are a few names that I feel have recently not picked good projects so I hope this is a reboot for them. The drama is a heartwarming story centered around a sibling trio with two brothers and a sister. Industry insiders are saying this drama will started filming soon in July and directing is the PD of The Light in Your Eyes (Brilliant) and the movie Detective K.

  2. what makes her previous work my Ajusshi and another oh ha young is a gem and work is the actor sincerity performances. IU performances in my ajusshi drama is nuance and amazing along with kee sung kyun, lee jiah. I don’t know about this. Lee Min Ki has been abit underwhelming in his recent work. And I’m not abig fan of Lee El and Kim Ji Won. we will see if they can perform like her previous actor.

      • @Kailey B – she was fantastic in that drama but it’s interesting how when talented actresses break out after years of supporting work there are always naysayers about them.

Lovestruck was very unorthodox for a kdrama but I enjoyed it. I’m glad KJW continues to score interesting projects with good writers.

      • @Royal We

Right? Realistic and unorthodox in a good way, atypical from the usual kdrama tropes with the childhood connection and love triangles etc. It’s a drama that really relied on expressive actors, I can’t imagine anyone else but KJW and JCW in their roles as they were so damn mesmerising. I loved it, it’s the best drama I’ve watched this year along with beyond evil (the 2 probably make the list of my all time fav kdramas).

Agree, that’s why I’m her fan cause of the diverse/interesting projects she takes. Though, as excited as I am for her new project since my mister is a masterpiece. I’m also eagerly awaiting a season 2 for arthdal chronicles. Sadly, I think its never going to happen 🙁

    • @John: same here. Not feeling lovestruck in the city at all.

Each of us might be has different eye test and reference when it comes to acting. But for me, Kim Jin Won and Chi Jang Wook are not that sincere in acting. So Lovestruck in the city work in the chemistry, but not the feeling.

Chi Jang Wook at least has above average technique which make him still watchable. Kim Jin Won. however.

  4. Omgggg finally this is real!!! I love Kim ji won. But I also love the writer and the rest of the cast. Hopefully this will be a gem, I miss a slice of life type of show.

  5. In a time where even cho seung-wo and park shin hye flopping hard,no change for lee min ki and kim ji won.

  6. Please not Lee Min Ki. I am done watching him everywhere yet portaying pretty much same characters.

My Ajusshi is my all time fave drama and I am excited on her new project, just not excited with the casting of LMK.

  7. I am definitely checking this out for the PD (still cannot move on from Law School!), the screenwriter (all-time favourite My Ahjusshi!) and Son Seok Gu (he was great in Designated Survivor and Be Melodramatic). Hang on, isn’t this a reunion of Son Seok Gu and Lee El after Matrimonial Chaos?

  8. Jeon yeo bin first drama “be melodramatic” only hit 2% in rating. Then jyb cast as Fl in vincenzo rating going up to 14%!Kim ji won the worst song joong ki “female lead” so far.Sjk career post disaster arthdal chronicle doing well so far,he even have 4 CF after divorced.

    • Vincenzo ratings were NOT because of JYB. It was the hit writer, hit director + SJK starpower. Anyone could have played that role and even done it way better. Anyone could have played that role and even played it way better.

  9. I love these actors! Lee Min-Ki’s last drama was really bad, so I hope his character will be more like in The Lies Within, I really liked him as cop.

Kim Ji-Won was good in Lovestruck in the City, I didn’t like her character but the she portrayed it very well.

A reunion between Lee El and Son Seok-Gu, I love both of them! They’re very charismatic. I wonder when Nteflix will release D.P.

  10. I guess KJW and LMK are handpicked by the PD, so their characters are siblings together with SSK? I do not mind KJW and the rest of the main cast but I can’t stand LMK… but hopefully this will be a win for her

  11. Hope this doesn’t flop because of Lee Min Ki. Never liked him, but after his scandal a few years back, seems knetz don’t care for him now either.
