Rookie Actress Choi Sung Eun From Beyond Evil Replaces Han So Hee in K-movie Gentleman with Joo Ji Hoon and Park Sung Woong

Okay, this is a great replacement choice and I personally prefer it more. Rookie and rising young actress Choi Sung Eun has been tapped as the female lead in upcoming K-movie Gentleman, taking over from super buzzy IT actress Han So Hee after she declined the role citing exhaustion. Choi Sung Eun was a supporting lead in jTBC critically acclaimed drama Beyond Evil (Monster) earlier this year and also got a Baeksang Best New Actress (Drama) nomination losing out to Park Joo Hyun in the end. She was eye catching and memorable from her first scene to last and was one of the new talents I was keeping an eye on, so I’m glad this open opportunity gave her a shot.

  2. OMG, I liked her in Beyond Evil! I think this is a great choice for the film. It doesn’t matter that she’s a rookie, she can hold her own alongside JJH, I think. Now I’m excited for this film!

  4. I wasn’t a fan of Beyond Evil, but she was really great. The scene with the eggs was top! She will be in The Sound of Magic, won’t she?

      • The actors were great. But the unprofessionalism of the characters was too much for me, it kinda made me sigh too many times. What happened to the sister was too much to be credible and my biggest question is how the female cop, Oh Ji-Hwa, could marry this guy?!?

    • Haha that’s what I liked about the show. The fact that they were completely unprofessional and always suspicious of eachother, all looking like suspects one way or another. I also loved the bromance and crime shows set in small town will always be an obsession of mine. I couldn’t understand how ji hwa married the guy too. He did make an interesting villian though plus I lowkey liked his Impishness.

      • Exactly! The brilliance of Beyond Evil lies in all the ambiguity and murkiness of its characters and plot in a small town setting. Nothing is black and white – and each character is hurting. It’s an emotional roller coaster with layers and nuance.

And I can understand why detective Oh would marry that scum bag because he could be very charismatic.

Finally, you cannot see a trace of rookie in Choi SE. she totally nails her poignant character. Happy to see her fly high and land in this new drama as the leas.

  5. I wasn’t fond of her character in Beyond Evil but her acting was good. She is a significantly more talented than Han So Hee who I find a rather vacant actress and I think Choi Sung Eun will play off against a senior actor like Ju Ji Hoon better.

I do wonder why they didn’t cast an older actress. I hope there is no loveline here.

    • Why, is she a minor? You do realize that it is much much much more common to see older man-younger woman relationships than the opposite in real life, right?

  6. Much better casting choice actually.

Usual problem is they always cast bigger stars who are not even right or suited for the role.

I hope the role will bring her more exposure and experience.
