Forecasting Love and Weather Ratings Rise Again in Episode 3 Past 6% as Twenty Five, Twenty One Stays Steady at 8%

The weekends are going to be smooth sailing for the next few weeks thanks to the successful arrival of two new romance dramas as the second week of airing appears to cement the domestic viewers interest in the stories. jTBC romance Forecasting Love and Weather was the lower of the two premiere ratings last week but has been increasing about 1% with each episode, going from 4.514% to 5.455% to this Saturday’s episode 3 with 6.787%. Over on tvN the throwback Twenty Five Twenty One saw premiere ratings of 6.370% jumping to 8.010% and had a tiny increase in episode 3 to 8.182%. Both dramas continue to get good feedback from the K-netizens and what surprises me is that Forecasting Love appears to be getting more buzz even. It’s such a turnaround for that drama considering how bland and wan the promos looked and everyone was pooh pooh-ing (myself included) the noona-dongsaeng coupling of Park Min Young and Song Kang. I haven’t started Twenty Five yet but did watch all three episodes of Forecasting Love and I can see why it’s an easy watch. The weather stuff is fresh and different, and Park Min Young’s great as the capable bureau director and one roots for her immensely seeing what a douchebag her ex-fiancee turned out to be and how sweet and adoring her new young admirer/beau is towards her. It’s nothing groundbreaking but the set up helps engage the viewer for sure.

  2. Just caught up on 2521. I’ll have to eat my words. Thought KTR would act circles around NJH, but instead NJH is doing greattt. His role really suits him. I think I see the light with NJH now.

I like KTR’s character on paper, but her exaggerated interpretation is making me grimace. All I see is KTR acting. really. hard. at being a teen. She’s much better in the serious scenes.

      • Yeah I’m confused because KTR looks 18 in the stills, but in motion I just see KTR trying super hard to act 18. Only time I see old KTR is in the calmer scenes.

It could be acting style-character mismatch. Hyeri did a greattt job acting a similar type character in 1988, and she’s objectively a much weaker actor than KTR…

    • This what happened when they decided to cast a 30 y.o adult to play an 18 y.o teen. It’s a delusional to think just because someone looks younger than her age (Kim Tae ri doesn’t even actually looks much younger than her age though) she could fit into a teen role.

In my opinon Kim Tae ri is quite overrated, she has skill as actress no doubt but she lacks field experiences. She never spent time in support roles and never spent time with various seniors, that’s why she lacks of knowledge and understanding to approach her character. Noticed this is also the same with other chungmuro young actress like Kim Go eun, Esom, Kim Dami and some more.
I enjoy Nam Joo hyuk’s performance here more as well. The girls are yet to win my attention.

  3. How come there are only two dramas? There used to be 6 dramas competing. Is it because of the Olympics? If that so, the real rating battle begins next week.

    • Yes next week the real competition will begin with Through The Darkness and Tracer are back – if I’m not mistaken it will compete with with Forecasting Love and Weather.
Also The King of Tears will resume next weekend too, competing against 2521.
Another weekend slot is KBS family drama, but this drama aired earlier.

Real battle will actually start next week, but no drama will be the losing one here. If anything more Koreans will spend watching their preferred drama then.

  4. I’ve been waiting for this one the most among others on air dramas. The characters are fine so far. At least no one is screeching like KTR did in 2521. It’s so off-putting.

  5. I’m enjoying both dramas, with a preference for Forecasting , i ‘m surprised myself . Good for Park Min Young , i’m liking Song kang ( who have guessed ?), Kim Tae Ri is good and Nam Joo Hyuk is doing very well .

    • Me too. Theres something very mesmerising about Song Kang when hes in his element. I liked him alot in Love Alarm 1 as well. Didnt think this will work but it did. Seems like knetz is really liking the chemistry as well.

  6. I like both but I prefer 25, 21. Forecasting is pretty commun for now and it rests only on the romance. I wonder how the story will last during 16 episodes.

For 25,21, I want to see the girls friendship growing as highschool students. the love story can wait for the time jump. There are more elements to be curious about.

  7. Twenty five is d best of the two…..TAERI IS JUST SO GOOD…NOM YOOK TOO….THEY HAVE GOOD CHEMISTRY…THE SET IS SO MAGNIFICENT..IT’S LIKE A COLOR BOOK…WHENEVER I WATCH EACH EPISODE I FEEL NOSTALGIC…

  8. I tried both first and second eps and to my surprise I love FLW than 2521. The plot of FWL is more interesting for me maybe it is because it is fast paced, no need for little maneuverings of plot here and there. The OTP PMY and SK is so adorable. They have great chemistry. While 2521 has a little slow pacing and I dont know why, i really love Kim Tae Ri but her acting is a little annoying, I am not satisfied with how she delivered her acting. It is like force acting. She sure is good in portraying serious roles. But both ML are hot. I see a different Song Kang in this drama, he has exuded his hot aura again and good acting again and as usual eye candy Nam Joo Hyuk. I think I will stay watching FLW but doesn’t mean i wont watch 2521.Maybe I will wait for more eps for 2521.

  9. what came out of me watching the three episodes of 2521 is how overrated Kim Tae Ri is. I don’t think she spent time with the script and lacked to provide the nuance to 18 year old character and made it a one dimensional screaming mess. Bona has no screen presence and she always looks like some one who’s gonna collapse because she fasted for 2 days. I am disappointed in this drama so far.

FLAW stays true its genre and the romcom is breezy perfect seasonal watch. My only issue with the drama is the body proportion of song kang ? His baby face and his body is somewhat distracting and not in a wow gonna drool over the body way

  10. Kim Taeri is screaming like a child constantly, she sucks in 2521. NJH is actually doing better than her which is surprising. I actually like the leads in FLAW more, nobody’s overacting at least. This crop of dramas isn’t as good as I expected, I have been looking forward to 2521 for ages only to be let down by Taeri’s acting.

  11. Surprised to see such negative comments on KTRs acting. I for one have zero qualms with any of the leads. Infact this is the fusrt time I’m actually lovimg NJH, I’ve never swooned once with him. I’m excited to see the growth and where the story will take us. There’s more that I’m invested in here than the romance, I want to see Heedo succeed, see start living a full life and find happiness, even the frenemy relationship of Heedo and Yurim. I can’t wait for the time jump to 21-25 but I’m happy enough where we are

    • So true bro. I’m really loving the lively character of KTH. I’m seriously not understanding for what they are hating on KTH. She has been always so versatile. And even I’m loving NJH’s character because of Na heedo. I’ve been watching kdrama for so long and now kinda bored with typical storyline. But 2521 is so refreshing mostly because of KTH’s character. I love the colours too

  12. I’m also liking FLW. Many say PMY is typecasted but she’s the best at this kind of dramas. I love the relationship between her, her mother and sister. I already said that the female lead character is cringey and making it hard for me to watch, I can only watch comfortably while she’s in a serious scene. Plus, since I finished high school, I have no interest in high school dramas so I hope they go to the 2521 part faster.

  13. Kim Tae Ri isn’t a bad actress, but she took a wrong approach for the character. It’s probably what the director wanted, but the very first scene where she skips to school like a 9-year-old girl already made me go ??? No 18 year old acts like this lmao, not now nor in the 90s. Only anime characters do that. In comparison, Hyeri’s Deoksun was a spot-on representation of a bubbly and sometimes angsty teenager. I know it’s because she’s similar to Hyeri herself, but Deoksun really came alive.

    • I think the script is bad and not sure about KTR, I haven’t seen her in anything else. But yes, no 18yr old would said or do what she’s doing in the drama sometimes. I’ll watch a bit more for my darling NJH, and see if it gets better after the time jump.

    • I Don’t understand you. Hyeri’s character had a different behaviour pattern. Na heedo is totally different than deoksun.why is everyone comparing? And what does make you so confident thinking a 18 yo doesn’t do that? Because I’m 20 and i’m still so childish bruh?

  14. Funny that so many ppl here are complaining about KTR’s 2521 acting bc she’s getting praise everywhere else on the Internet. Shrug.

I’m meh on her acting rn (it’s OTT) but I’m confident once the time skip happens her acting will settle in. Sometimes it takes a few episodes.

    • I feel she’s given way too many passes for her debut in Handmaiden ? I’m not saying she is a bad actress but 2521 highlighted that she is actually overrated. People have this tendency of placing the movie actors on pedestal and any comments against them is treated as blasphemy. I see some fans attacking the negative opinions on reddit and twitter with how dare the KTR’s action is questioned ? No one is exempt from criticism, no matter even if they win oscar. People are being very hush hush about her overacting contrary to how they feel free to rip other actresses like say Hyeri for MRIAG.

      • KTR was good in Mr Sunshine too, so she has proven she isn’t a one-hit wonder.

3 episodes and 1 datapoint is too soon to label an otherwise great actress overrated. People are so quick to call anything/anyone they don’t like “oVeRaTeD”. Even Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep have bad performances.

      • Many of them were the ones attacking njh because “how does he dares to bring his bad acting to her?” And now he’s the one with the good reviews. But we have to admit that ktr is the one bringing the ratings. She’s the highlight of the drama everywhere.

      • I agree with you, yzma. Even lauded actresses have their bad performances and everyone has room to improve, even actors who have been acting for decades and have won dozens of prestigious awards.

And there also needs to be a good match between role and actor. Kim Taeri may not be a great match, but I like her. And I think it’s great that Kim Taeri can take on this young, messy character before she got too old. Her career has been serious roles with self-possessed characters. And getting to ogle Nam Joo-hyuk is also a perk!

I think some of the blame can rest with the writing and the directing too. I think korean viewers are more tolerant of shrieking too. Think Hwang Jung-eum who is actually a good actress when not shrieking for comedy. I think she’s more well-liked in korea than with western audiences.

      • I think KTR is an excellent actress. I watched almost her movies and drama. The way Na Hee Do acted in the drama is almost the same way she acted in the movie 1987:When The Day Comes. It is almost the same way but it is a little subtle. She acted in the movie a little rebellious teenager to her uncle and mother and I see the similarities but she delivered it so well. I think the PD in the drama needs to tame her a little so it wont be so overacting. I think she deserves all the praises in the past but it really up to the PD if the artist delivers the correct or on point acting. Well it is only eps1-4 so there are still many eps to discover. I can see your point and I agree in some aspects and disagree in some also. People have the rights to praise and criticize these actors/actresses so that they can also know how and when to improve their crafts.

  15. Love the 2521 k/drama’ it’s actually refreshing to see this ‘ the character is great ‘navigating this high school drama’ is complicated’ yet the lead actress is doing great job of the role. ‘all the actors and actresses is great’ it’s to early to judge on this ‘ for sure there is more room for improvement for the story line’ make this an inspiring to young generation’ i will keep watching this drama’ congratulations in advance to cast and crew’

  16. I watched both shows and so far weather drama edges out 2521 just by a tiny bit.

KTR did overact in the first episode, and the shouting a bit too much to my liking. But my overall like for KTR (probably to her Lady Aeshin) is still there so will wait for her character to grow up and see if I will continue or drop the drama.

Park Min Young was an old favorite but haven’t watched any of her dramas of late. So far so good, her character finally stood up to her jerk ex. Problem is she ended up waking in bed with the younger guy. Which reminded me of a recent Noona drama. Thankfully PMY is not wooden in acting so I might continue watching. Plus I love the actress who plays her mom.

  17. I agree with the sometimes disturbing screeching. I think the director as well as the actor play important part in it. i find hyeri’s character in R88 and taeri’s in 2521 is similar in terms of being loud and childish and tbh i find both equally annoying when they’re being loud. In my opinion no one is better than the other in that department.

About tae ri’s skipping scene. I remember park si eun’s similar portrayal of her character in 30 but 17. And she was really a teenager at that time hence i found tae ri’s acting fine in that scene

    • There isn’t anything wrong with a *character* being annoying. I found Deoksun annoying but had no issue with Hyeri’s acting, while with 2521 I have issue with KTR’s acting but don’t find Heedo annoying.

IDK if it’s the directors fault or if KTR’s acting just hasn’t synced with the character yet.

  18. I am thoroughly enjoying both series. I prefer binge watching so struggling a little with the weekly format. I am too invested in the shows now to wait until they are finished in order to binge watch.

I think all the actors are performing well in their roles. A minor criticism of SK is that he needs to more expressive with his eyes and facial expressions while PMY has always been very good at doing this.

I am looking forward to how both shows storyline unfolds over the coming weeks.
