SBS Criminal Profiler Drama Through the Darkness with Kim Nam Gil Ends Averaging 7.2% Ratings with Rave Reviews from Critics and Audiences

This weekend saw the conclusion of the short but to the heart SBS 12-episode criminal investigative drama Through the Darkness (Those Who Read Hearts of Evil). This was one of the dramas that got its airing bisected by the Winter Olympics so the first half and second half had a month gap. Overall the average ratings was 7.2% and the break did seem to stunt the momentum but the second half ended up with generally the same ratings as the first half. It felt like it could have gone up more had there not been the break but narratively the break came at a good pause point so the drama finished with strong word of mouth and great reviews from critics. It’s definitely a worth watch from all accounts and skews towards the darkness mental and psychological probing aspect of a police thriller.

  2. It was one of the best Police drama. The investigation parts were so good, really realistic. The characters were good. I loved the duo Kim Nam-Gil and Jin Sun-Kyu, both of them were great in their role.

  4. Amazing amazing drama. It was really well written and executed perfectly, the actors were brilliant (Kim Nam Gil can do no wrong). The only issue was that it was too brutal, they didn’t shy away from showing the actual crimes and it made me imagine it happening in the real world, how can people be so evil and conflicted?

Overall a perfectly executed drama. I think these 12 episodes should be the new normal.

  5. From Ep one until the last one, this drama was perfect in every aspect. The kind that i love to watch with a masterclass from the actors . And yes, 12 episodes should be the new norm, even more for romantic comedies .

  6. I need to jump back in post Olympics. I am liking but not loving it. I’ve seen so many profiler shows that it is more of the same but elevated by the actor.

  7. This is an excellent drama and I highly recommend. It should be a magnificent one shot watch because the flow would be incredible. I will definitely rewatch.

  8. I’ll be waiting for Kim Namgil nomination for this. Yes, there are a lot profiler dramas, but this was mostly well written and directed and the cast acting made it to be so much better. Jin Sunkyu and Kim Sojin did a such a good job.

  9. One of the best police dramas focusing on the process of getting the bad guys. Nam Gil’s character was so deep into his job as I was into his acting.
