Youn Yuh Jung, Kim Min Ha, Lee Min Ho, and Jung Eun Chae Attend the US Premiere of Apple TV+ Prestige Series Pachinko

Next week is the premiere of new Apple TV+ series Pachinko, adapted from the same name novel by a Korean-American writer about a Korean family who emigrated to Japan and their diaspora life. The cast attended the premiere event in the US this week led by matriarch Youn Yuh Jung and younger leads Kim Min Ha, Lee Min Ho, and Jung Eun Chae. I love that the cast showed up in beautifully classic attire and everyone looks so chic and amazing. The series is getting primarily positive reviews and streaming on Apple TV+ will be an experimental take on how many viewers will check out the show on one of the smaller of the streaming networks.

Youn Yuh Jung, Kim Min Ha, Lee Min Ho, and Jung Eun Chae Attend the US Premiere of Apple TV+ Prestige Series Pachinko — 44 Comments

  1. Lee Min Ho is really not aging well. Swollen face and apI don’t know if he smokes but the color of his lips are getting darker and bluer…

    • He had to put on some weight for the role, maybe that’s taken a toll on him. Plus stress and jetlag and we know how the k stars react to american food aswell. Wouldn’t judge him based on these pics, he‘s been looking really good in his recent yt videos

  2. Is Kim Min-ha a complete newbie? Pachinko’s reviews are calling her the star of the show, but I can’t find much background on her.

If she is a newbie, then this is an incredible first acting gig and by the looks of it, performance.

      • Wow, that’s impressive. I can’t imagine helming such a big prestige drama as your first acting job. The pressure!

These OTT platforms are really giving newbies amazing acting opportunities.

  3. Um, I’ve never been wowed by Lee Min-ho’s looks but WTF is wrong with his face? Is it just extra weight or did he have work done? It looks weird

    • Lee Minho’s entire outfit – hair and clothes- seemed like he rolled out of bed. I saw the video for this, and there was a lot of wind, so the tousled hair that would look okay in a photoshoot just looks greasy here. When you compare him with the rest of the cast in their group pic, he has the most dull outfit.

Also he’s 35. He will look old sometimes, especially on days with little sleep.

Anyways, maybe it’s time for him to take on more ahjusshi-ish type roles. Change it up!

  4. Apple TV doesn’t have the reach of Netflix so this might get good reviews and awards but it won’t probably have the reach. And all the comments on LMH’s looks are weird. The focus on visuals in K-entertainment has always been off the charts, both in acting and k-pop, but geesh let it go.

  5. There’s an excellent article in Time about the making of Pachinko. Apple TV is taking a big risk with this big-budget period piece that doesn’t have superheroes, sex, or dramatic action sequences. Exec producer Therea Kang-Lowe approached several streamers but most balked at the price tag. The team was asking for a budget on par with that of The Crown. Apple and Netflix eventually came through and they picked Apple, thanks to the support of their director of domestic programming Michelle Lee.

Soo Hugh wrote it for 4 seasons but they are still waiting for Apple TV to greenlight S2. It seems like the drama abruptly ends with the fate of the characters still hanging in the air. It’s a shame if Apple TV drops it. Hopefully S1 will attract and keep enough new subscribers to satisfy the bean counters.

  6. Lee Min-ho has such a full face. He is a bit of a fatty… never understood his appeal. His low cheekbones makes him look South-East Asian, so I never understood why Koreans always belittle South-East Asian faces but admire Lee Min-ho

    • He’s got million of young followers on his IG from Iran to India. When I was new with K-drama I found him handsome in those old dramas but not impressed with his acting skills. Yes I agree that his charm is not showing on these photos. Puffy face and no glow.

      • Nothing wrong with having a full face. I do not find it weird that he is popular outside Korea, because beauty standards are more diverse outside Korea. But I never understood why Koreans call South-East Asians ugly, whilst they find guys such as Won Bin and Lee Min-ho hot, who are tanned and actually look more Filipino than Korean.

  7. I’m loving the more casual, natural full body shots. Really looking forward to this and I’m encouraged to hear they had actual auditions for the roles.

  8. What happened to his face? His cheeks are so full and unnatural , might be too much filler and he is looking like some guys in Hollywood who had plastic surgery. His skin is waxy and tight.
But why?! He was so handsome before especially in The Heirs. I started noticing that he looked different in The King.

  9. LMH is looking like a middle-aged man who is currently experiencing a rough patch. Ughh.. enough with fillers and plastic surgery please. Aging naturally is much more attractive.

  11. I had to read again the title of this thread because reading the comments I thought it was about LMH s looks.
I hope it’s an interesting drama because all actors seem to put a lot of hard work.

  12. LMH is looking more like an ahjussi the photos. This is the real him without tons of make-up and severe airbrushing. If a female wig is put on, he can easily pass off as any middle aged aunty buying groceries at the wet market. The second male lead definitely looks more manly and natural than him.

    • You are so right! I was thinking the same, he is looking like a middle-aged aunty and I also agree with the other male star in a suit he is so manly and natural.

  13. Koreans have no pity for their actor’s appearance . They don’t watch french tv dramas because they would be horrified by our popular actors . Even by our singers … Wrinkles, weight, bad skin, heroines over 50 years , and they still get ratings over 20% every week .

    • @Eleven. Exactly what I thought. I think he looks fine at 35. don’t know what he looked like when he was younger. I find it annoying that k-drama actors wear heavy makeup and omg rouge lip sticks. That’s why I dropped most of the k-dramas I started on Netflix. The trip-and-fall-on-you-and-our-lips-touch. Give me a break.

  14. While I don’t think it’s right to insult or bash Lee Min Ho’s looks, I don’t understand why some of you are acting surprised that people are only focusing on his looks. For years now, the media has always shoved him down our throats as one of the most handsome korean actors— not that I disagree, even though he’s not my type, he’s objectively handsome, especially when he was younger. But let’s be honest, he’s always been known more for his looks than his acting, so while I thinks the comments are kinda brutal, the focus on the looks is understandable. If he has been known for his acting skills than his looks, I don’t think anyone would care if he’s bloated or whatever, except maybe some toxic, unforgiving knetz, but they’re just a small group anyway. Look at someone like Yoo Ah In, he’s known more as a great actor than for his looks, so even though he’s not prettified most of the time or if he gains weight, no one cares.

But to be fair, I don’t think Lee Min Ho had fillers, his eye area looks puffy as well, so maybe he ate something that made him look bloated. But who knows with these celebs lol

    • well said ? it’s the same with actresses too just look at the difference between the comments on a son ye jin article vs a song hye kyo article lmfao really shows you the difference between real actors vs stars haha

      • Honestly I think he looks great!!!!! I like him for his looks and love his acting I don’t understand why people are always criticizing it is so much negativity!!! If you can’t say something nice Don’t say nothing at all

  15. Lee min ho is aiming for a Emmy award for his brilliant acting and here you are still talking about his looks. He looks so mature and sexy in this hairstyle. I hope he appears in your dreams, cause you sure thinking and looking at his looks a lot.

  16. Imo most comments bashing his looks could be non fans who get annoyed by his fans and blogger always praising his looks and salivating over his photoshoots. Trying to justify his ageing looks by using his age 35 is a lame excuse. Jung Il Woo, Ji Chang Wook, Lee Seung Gi, Jang Geun Suk, Ahn Jae Hyun, Kwak Si Yang, Joo Won are all born in 1987 like him but their comment sections aren’t riddled by face bashing insults. Even older actors like Teo Yoo, Hyun Bin, Jo In Sung, So Ji Sub, Ji Sung, Park Hee Sun, Kim Jae Wook, Lee Jung Jae etc are aging better than Lee Min Ho. Let’s just call a spade a spade. LMH does not age well and that’s a fact.

    • Red carpet fashion wise I do notice the second actor did dress better than lmh who’s aiming for a summer look by ditching socks. Totally surprised he went for a casual look at a LA premiere for a prestige drama. It’s awards seasons in Hollywood so the vibes should be Oscars, Golden Globes, SAGs formal tuxedo or black tie. Disappointed by the typical drab Korean black and white fashion wear like going to a Korean wedding. This is Hollywood red carpet so glam up in colours for goodness sake. Anything but chic and amazing.

  17. Agree. LMH is known for his looks so of course that’s what people will notice first. Being 35 is not an excuse to cover up the truth which is he is not ageing well unlike other known Korean actors who are also known for their looks like Hyun Bin, Woo bin, Gong Yoo, etc. who are aging like fine wine. The older they get, the hotter they look.

    • Exactly what I thought! 35 is not even old especially nowadays. And he started having a bloated face for a few years now so his age is not even an excuse…
Actors of his profile who capitalize mostly on their looks even if they have tallent can’t blame people to notice the changes…that’s part of the game.

  18. Agreed with the more recent comments lol don’t do a surprise pikachu face if people are only focusing on lmh’s looks as it’s what he’s always known for lmao
I just have to say tho that jung eun chae isn’t looking so good in these pics as well, which is weird because I usually find her gorgeous. but in her case I think it’s just a case of bad styling. with her intense coloring, her makeup should have more contrast, maybe should’ve gone for a deeper/brighter lip color instead? her styling in tkem was on point ?
and who’s the other dude? damn, that’s a sharp looking dude ?

  20. I really hope he gives justice to the role of Hansu in Pachinko. The character is sleazy and manipulative and it’s a challenging role to take on, but let’s face it, LMH is in this project for his star power and looks rather than his acting abilities. He has yet to wow me with great acting, but hey, he’s pretty to look at onscreen and that’s what Koreans want. I hope he proves me wrong and challenges himself in this role, acting-wise!

  21. The visuals not bad but the ootd is. I hope he fancies himself with a more formal suit and hair should be well done. Or he goes to informal one but cool outfit. Well he is still hot in my eyes.

  22. This comment section just validates Lmh saying he didn’t have to care for visuals or go on extreme diets for this show but that it is completely expected of kdramas. Because all k-content audience like this comment section here have always been more about visuals than content. Not that I’m surprised. This website harbors some of the most deranged nuts to exist.

  23. You people need to leave lee ming ho alone. The man is handsome, has always been handsome and will always be handsome. stop hating.
