C-actress Crystal Yuan (Yuan Bing Yan) is the latest celeb to be association with tax evasion in Mainland China’s crackdown on tax dodging. It’s not for her personal income tax payment but a company caught underreporting income and therefore underpaid taxes and she was an executive director, manager, and shareholder in that company. Reportedly her ban will not be as harsh as the consequences on some other top stars but time will tell. But the first big move has arrived with Crystal Yuan being removed from the upcoming big budget highly anticipated xianxia drama Fox Spirit Matchmaker adapted from the popular manhua and anime. The leads are Yang Mi and Gong Jun and Crystal Yuan was to play the second female lead, and now her role is being taken over by Zhu Xu Dan who played one of the antagonist supporting female leads with Yang Mi years ago in Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossoms and most recently was Zhou Zhi Ruo in the most recent adaptation of Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre. It’s an equivalent swap out if you ask me and a smart move who knows what will be the situation with Crystal Yuan when this drama airs.
That’s sad coz Crystal Yuan was about to finally get more meaty roles after her previous popular show Love and Redemption (2020)…,
Can’t you just use Chinese name for all Chinese actors? I was thinking who’s this Crystal, turns out Yuan Bingyuan. Just because some of them have English names, you don’t have to use it. Did you do the same with Korean actors who have English name? Okay then, let’s use Gianna Jun or Daniel Choi from now on.

You want to be a banana? Suit yourself. There’re some people out there who want their real name to be used more, not just English name just to suit western tongue that can’t try to pronounce correctly 🤮🤮🤮🤮
And this is not just for actors only, it’s good for all Chinese people. If you can learn to pronounce Korean names then you can learn how to pronounce Chinese names.

I use English names when the actor/actress is more commonly or frequently and always using it with their fandom and with English sites. It’s not a science and more of an art.
Zhao Li Ling is rarely if ever referred to Zanila Zhao. But Crystal Liu is used as frequently as is Liu Yi Fei. Wu Lei versus Leo Wu it’s a no brainer, he’s always called Wu Lei even in English sites. The most obvious is that Angelababy is always Angelababy rather than Yang Ying. I also do call Daniel Choi uhm Daniel Choi.
I don’t do it intentionally but when you hear an actor or actress called either their Chinese or English names more often than not that’s how I think of him/her when I am writing an article. Sorry if it bothers you.
Sad that there are still many actors and actressess who got caught in tax evasion..why they did not learn from the previous example..Zheng Shuang and Deng Lun are popular actors but they are banned now..
For the English name…in my opinion as overseas fans, for C drama actor sometimes they are more popular with their English actor such as Chrystal Yuan or Simon Gong and some of them with their Chinese name such as Yang Yang or Xiao Zhan
While for K drama actor for me, I know them better with their korean name compare to their English name
If you have been around c-ent k-ent and other just in general, Chrystal yuan and Simon gong is not popular known😂 go around and say that name and people will be like who?? Now you switch that to Yuan Bingyuan and Gong Jun, then I bet people will know them. Very few chinese celeb are popular with their English name for example Jackie Chan and Crystal Liu (mainly because they are involved in international movie scene hence the English name and originally those involved in Hong Kong or Taiwan movie/drama are more generally known with their English name, not Chinese mainland), but other new niches celeb from china as of late are more known with their Chinese name.
She won’t get away with it because fans of other blacklisted celebs like deng lun and fan bingbing will constantly bring it up if she still gets work
I love Yuan Bingyan as an actress and really hate to see her career get tanked by something she may not have had any knowledge of. Yang MI does really great dramas and for her to hand pick Crystal to Bea part of her cast would have been a boon for her career.
