Episode 12 of Alchemy of Souls Hits New Rating High of 7.091% as the Narrative Starts to Speed Up with Good Guys Picking Up on What the Baddies are Doing

The schizophrenic ratings swing from Saturday to Sunday airings of Alchemy of Souls was particularly jarring this week, with a new ratings low one night leading to a new ratings high the next night. Tonally this episode 12 was much better for me, tighter in narrative progression and actual stakes rather than one long Wook training montage. The best part was having Songrim people figure out the soul switching whereby a rich/powerful old near death person is continuing life by stealing the body of a young person. This opens the door to actually putting a stop to Jin Mu’s big sprawling conspiracy which involves the queen and honestly if you told me that the dead old King is actually still soul alive in the body of someone in the baddie circle I wouldn’t be surprised. I feel like the conspiracy is grander in scale but probably because the powers of the ice stone is that extraordinary. Yul did more than just pine quietly in this episode, loved his mission powers activated form. The Crown Prince and Wook journey to each other was brilliantly executed with the romantic BGM and lots of uncomfortable cringing after. Above all else, the ending captured what was done better early on, the sense of real stakes and urgency with Mu Duk’s plight as a soul swapper.

  1. I think what affected AOS rating is Why Her, a public network drama. It airs every Friday and Saturday whereas AOS airs Saturday and Sunday. Every Saturday, AOS rating is low and Sundays rating is high. Last Saturday was the final episode of WH which achieved the highest rating of its entire run whilst AOS dropped to its all-time low. Now that WH has ended, I’m expecting a change of AOS rating during its Saturday run. Wishing the best for them.

Episode 11 is so far my least favorite but episode 12 is so far the best for me especially the crown prince and Jang Uk scene.

  2. I love each episode of this drama. Episode 11 had many funny moments and the fast pace love developments and conflicts. It also indicated that Jin Bu Yeon was carried in her mother’s womb for 13 months. Jin mother begged Jang Wook’s father to help her save the baby (indirectly asking him to shift soul) so the baby can be born alive. The mysteries are being exposed more in the episode and the Shaman Choi shifted her soul with the queen for power. Love this drama so much.

  3. Ms Koala, I’m a bit confused here. I didn’t dare to start AOS bcos of the news abt the switch of female lead from ep 11 onwards.
So is that just a rumour? Or r there 2 FL now?

    Thanks

    • Sorry, I’m not Ms. Koala but let me answer you. AOS has 20 episodes for this 1st season. 2nd season will have 10 episodes only and there are rumors that the 1st season female lead will not be included in the cast. The female lead will be the actress who appeared in the 1st episode of this season but this news is not confirmed yet.

      • Thank you very much! 😊 I thot it was 10 episodes per season. Hv been burnt a few times by dramas which went downhill so dare not start on this bcos of the unconfirmed news. 😅

  4. EPISODE 12 WAS A WALK TO REMEMBER..LEFT ME WITH CHILLS FOR EPISODE 13 THIS SATURDAY… AND TRUTH HE TOLD, THE PACE OF THE DRAMA IS WAY FAST WC MAKES IT EASY FOR VIEWERS NOT TO GET BORED AS PROGRESS BTWN PROTAGONISTS AND ANTAGONISTS IS ACHIEVED QUICKLY AND PROTAGONIST ARE NOT MADE STUPID NOT TO CATCH UP QUICKLY. In this era, catching up between who is doing u wrong is easy as per thus series..I like it (#AOS)

  5. I loved this drama every episode is getting more and more thrilled and suspense iam very happy to know that thia drama has season 2 i would love to see some more beautiful romantic scene between them love you gus hwaiting AOS💜💜💜
