Written Preview for Episode 18 of 49 Days

Who knew a drama I initially thought would be a whimsical romantic melodrama would turn out to be such a nail-biter. I think the writer has managed to deliver plot twists I wasn’t expecting in the second half, as well as built up so much emotional investment into all the characters, I might actually be nervous for next week’s finale. Which hasn’t happened in a long time, and truly marks 49 Days as a solid drama. Continue reading

Eugene Announces Summer Nuptials with her Creating Destiny Co-star Ki Tae Young

WAAAAAA, such great news! And no one knew they were even dating! Bravo to Eugene and Ki Tae Young, for having a normal relationship and finally deciding to tie the knot. News just broke that actress (and former S.E.S. member) Eugene is tying the knot with Ki Tae Young, her boyfriend of over a year, and also her co-star and love interest in the drama Creating Destiny. Lie to Me Episode 2 Recap

It’s usually true that the simpler the set-up, the better the execution. The more convoluted a story needs to be in order to get the ball rolling, the more it runs the risk of feeling scattered. Worse yet, it runs the risk of feeling contrived. Right now, Lie to Me stands just at the brink of that possibility, which is that the hows and whys of getting Ah Jung and Ki Joon into a fake contract marriage are so jam-packed with misunderstandings on top of inaccuracies wrapped in misleading statements, one almost gets exhausted just watching it. Continue reading

Video Preview for Episode 17 of 49 Days

I love how the interconnected characters, histories, and future livelihoods of all six leads in 49 Days constantly feel uncertain, unsettled, and unnerving. Four episodes until the end and I still have no clue how it’s all going to play out. I refuse to believe it’s a given that Ji Hyun will get her three tears, yet I find myself like some hyped-up cheerleader hoping that she can succeed. Not because I want her to resurrect, but because I want her to understand that she was loved because she made a difference to people. Continue reading

May may be a veritable buffet of new K-dramas left and right, but May also means the Summer movie season is about to start (or in Hollywood, it’s already long started two weeks ago). One of the biggest Summer movies in Asian cinema this year is sure to be My Kingdom (Da Wu Sheng 大武生) starring Han Geng, Wu Zun, and Barbie Hsu. Continue reading

Written Preview for Best Love Episode 3

Best Love is so zany not because it forces the laughter on us in a “look at me, aren’t I so clever” way. The humor is pretty standard and somewhat pedestrian, but it’s in the delivery and execution that makes it work. And hidden in all the laughter and goofball antics is a beating sincere heart behind this story. Everyone has said this, but it merits repeating again – I cannot wait to watch the fake dating show Couple Making Season 3. Continue reading
