Presenting all Three Songs From Drunken to Love You

Today saw the premiere of the SETTV drama Drunken to Love You. Below I’ve brought the three songs that appeared in the first episode, and all three songs are immediate and utter love for me (I’ll talk about episode 1 later, but the fact that I am posting about this drama’s songs should indicate what my feelings are). The opening title song is by Magic Power MP魔幻力量 (who sang one of my most favorite title songs for any TW-drama, the kickass title song for PS Man), and it’s called “不按牌理出牌” (the meaning of the title is “Doing Something Unexpected”). Romance Town Releases Additional Stills of Sung Yuri and Jung Kyeo Woon

While I may not be interested in Romance Town, it could very well be the dark horse in the Wed-Thurs battle. Frankly, I know better than to bet on ratings winners, I much prefer to lay my chips on which drama I expect to enjoy the most (BestLoveBestLoveBestLove). More stills have been released from Romance Town, including the first official look at leading man Jung Kyeo Woon, who looks appropriately chaebol-esque. Continue reading

The Other Shore 1945 Releases Two More Trailers

Oh man, I don’t know how I’m going to restrain myself until this drama airs the proper version I want to watch. The Other Shore 1945 with Vic Zhou and Janine Chang released two more trailers, and I’ve translated all the dialogue below the video. Word is that the drama will air in late May in China, and early July in Taiwan. However, the Chinese version will in fact be dubbing over the Taiwanese dialogue, leaving all the characters speaking Mandarin. The Japanese dialogue portions remain intact.

The Chinese television commission has long had a rule that there can be no regional dialects on any television show, period. Foreign language is fine, but a regional Chinese dialect is prohibited, mostly an antiquated rule to promulgate Mandarin Chinese as the official dialect amongst the hundreds of regional Chinese dialects out there. Since Taiwanese is a regional dialect, it’s a no go. That means I’m going to have to wait until July to watch the drama on the Taiwan airing, which will have all the languages spoken as the drama intended. The two new trailers look awesome, so have a look. Continue reading

Pre-Production Stills Released of the Upcoming Movie Bad Girl with Mike He and Ella

The upcoming TW-movie Bad Girl (女孩壞壞) with Ella Chen and Mike He held its pre-production costume fitting and first photo shoot of its two lead actors yesterday. Ella plays a hardscrabble high school student who loves her family, and forms a girl gang called Bad Girls to protect the neighborhood and keep it free of crime. One day a movie production comes to her high school to film, and the lead actor Justin (played by Mike) is an arrogant movie star who dazzles all the girls. Due to circumstances beyond her control, Ella’s character becomes the lead in the movie-within-a-movie, pitting her against Justin, and sparks fly. Continue reading

Character and Plot Synopsis for Drunken to Love You

In preparation for this weekend’s premiere of the TW-drama Drunken to Love You, I hereby bring the detailed character synopsis for the main cast, and well as the plot outline (it’s a three-month marriage contract, yo!). It’s not terribly spoilery, especially since as a live-filmed drama I suspect the script for DTLY remains subject to change depending on how well received (or lack thereof) this drama is.

It’s slated to be 15 episodes, and I hope that remains the final episode count, because I felt the extension for both Fated to Love You and My Queen killed a great first half and the second half become slighty loco dragville. Now let’s get to know the quirky denizens of DTLY, shall we? I’m even more enamored of this drama after reading this. Continue reading

A First Impression and Quickcap of Manny

This week saw the premiere of the first ever primetime drama from the cable network TvN, the nanny-with-a-twist light and fluffy Manny, starring Seo Ji Seok, Choi Jung Yoon, and Byung Jung Soo. After watching the first two episodes, I am utterly smitten and bewitched – it’s simultaneously LOL-funny yet tender and sincere.

You know what drama this reminds me of – Wish Upon a Star with Kim Ji Hoon and Choi Jung Won, a drama that for the first half was my biggest drama addiction in early 2010. It has the same mixture of cute kids dealing with parental loss mixed with hijinks and antics galore. WUAS had the chance of being one of my favorite K-dramas of all time, until the second half went to the wolves. Hopefully, no such insanity will befall Manny. Continue reading
