South Korean Box Office Has the First Big Hit of 2023 as The Roundup 3: No Way Out Hits 6 Million Tickets in 7 Days

Leave it to grizzly detective Ma Dong Seok and a sequel to ride to the rescue of the South Korean box office. After some handwringing in the industry that the first half of the year hasn’t had a big hit with the only moderate success being The Point Men (Bargaining) in January, this last week’s release of The Roundup 3: No Way Out (also known as The Outlaws or Criminal City) has taken back the top of the box office from international films and also brought viewers back into the seats. The movie sold 6 million tickets in the first 7 days and appears to be on track to keep going strong. I should have known this movie was going to become a franchise after The Roundup 2 released last year in 2022 became the highest grossing domestic movie that year. Congrats to the cast and crew!
